Shallow for talls but good for midfielders.

From the draft watchers it sounds unusually deep for quality mids, but unusually poor for most other positions, especially talls. Given our need to rejunivinate our midfield that isn't bad. We should be able to get a lot of quality into our midfield this year. Hold onto our younger talls and hope they come on. See what happens ove thenext few years. 2022 is supposed to be really solid for talls. So we might be trying to up our first from 18 to about 12 next year to get an A grade KPF.

It's a matter of risk. Yes, there's always outliers that get picked up later, that's not what I'm saying. Do you risk drafting a couple of fringe players with 1st/2nd round picks equating to 2nd/3rd rounders or go all-in on getting access to the very top tier talent and mitigating that risk? Some years are definitely stronger than others and there are times when picks in the mid to late 1st round are gold. I'm just reading more and more how that isn't the case this year.

Would be devastating to have the winning hand in a game played for peanuts.

We obviously rated this years draft better than last year, traded out our first pick, and got StKilda's 2nd this year for the pick upgrade, also trading in GC's third. We have gone all in on this years draft at the expense of effectively nothing last year. Hopefully this means we have players we like that we think we can get with the good picks.

At this stage I'm prepared to trust our recruiters but it will be an interesting case study moving forward the difference between Collingwood who went balls deep on last years talent and us who avoided it in preference for this year.

I think we also knew our retirements would start , starting our rebuilding process with one eye on the future. Our recruiting staff are brilliant

With Blues looking to get the right picks in to trade for Cerra, prob two first rounders, if we got the Dogs first rounder, would a deal for pick 6 and 25 for our two late first rounders be preferable than going in with the three first round picks? At 6 & 7 we'd be guaranteed two guns and then still have an early second rounder or two (depending on trade with the dogs) to get a slider or two. Whether those two picks would be enough to satisfy the Dockers is another question, maybe so with the depth of WA talent in the draft.

Lots of journos toying with this but it makes zero sense IMO.

If Carlton split pick 6 for picks in the teens, they can kiss Cerra goodbye - Peter Bell will tell them to GAGF.

I like your thinking. We haven't had access to the absolute cream of the draft in an age. 2 gun midfielders sets us up beautifully with the talent we already have on board.

Even with the bumper WA draft crop factor?

Also Cerra is a very good player, but an early first round and late first round level talent? Not sure given what similar quality players have gone for in recent years

Depends on how important the draft is i guess, Blues clearly think that with the addition of cerra they will play finals and have no need for the draft

I think Carlton would be happy with the trade (6 and 25 effectively for Cerra) as would have accepted that pick 6 by itself isn't going to get it done. Its more what Freo would accept the two late first rounders....and obviously what those two picks end up as!

Blues thought that with Saad.

They overpay for good players and end up with no cap space and a mediocre list.

Keep it up Carlton. Long may you build a flawed list and trash your coaches.

Yeah of course, Seems clear that to me that Carltons offer isnt enough for Freo so we are in for a long trade battle between them

Blues will always overrate there players, the fact that they think SPS and pick 6 is good enough for cerra is evident enough

So was Walsh apparently
Rubbish. Walsh was always seen as a standout in the draft. Hobbs is not considered a standout and is actually dropping in most ratings . Was seen as likely 4th pick now 7/8. Others have progressed since and may have passed him in the raffle.

Based on who’s opinion? You know recruiters that have been watching the juniors, or you heard reports from them?
I agree that he appears to be less rated than he was but that’s from phantom drafts and journos.
happens every single year, players rated as high as pick 1 even, are drafted later and it turns out they should have indeed been pick 1. It’s a bit of a lottery still, especially with this Covid crap we are dealing with, meaning no exposed form over a decent period of time. We just have to trust Matt Clarke and co.

Dont want to get involved with the Freo/Carlton sh!t fight. Trade will happen and will will be #6+2022 2nd rounder imo and SPS is the steak knives if Freo want him.

Lets just worry about our own trades and #1 priority is to get the doggies 1st rounder #13/#15 range and go into the draft with 7,15,17,26 and maybe a later pick like the bug schalong

Some very nice big mids and 2 kpp

I'm not advocating that I know better than others who would be the best player to go after, however, would it not be sensible to wait until these kids are tested at draft camps and play against each other over the next few weeks. Nominating Hobbs or others is premature. I have my favourites based on available info (limited), however, will wait until I see some actual games playèd by these kids against each other. At this point in time Josh Ward is the midfielder I'd choose, only because he apparently went head to head with Daicos and was said to have performed very well, even possibly won the encounter.
