We have a habit of doing that. And we will know the player a week before the draft too
yep, there's always a player ranked about 5 spots below our pick who 'richmond are big fans of' and we end up taking, sometimes it works, sometimes not. I remember being annoyed we overlooked grundy for vlastuin and that's worked out fairly well

There's a lot of discussion at the moment about how many list spots we will have actually available. We might be maxing out at three picks in the end.
If that's the case have a crack at Dogs 1st pick as they need pts & trade the rest into next yrs draft on the night.

It'll be interesting to see whether we go 2 out and out midfielders (eg Ward, Hobbs, Roberts etc) - with our first 2. It feels like there are few options and players that offer some point of difference/utility types - eg Goater, Sinn, Callaghan or mid/forwards like Rachele, MacDonald, Sonsie, Draper - I would like us to stay ahead of the curve if possible and draft a mix of players - I think we need maybe one vanilla midfielder type but then a player that provide different strengths - a bit of x factor

I look at Ports draft haul from a couple of years back and Essendons last year and I think they broke the mold a bit by drafting kids that offer real differences - I never thought Rossee, Dursma etc would have been so good or Cox, perkins etc - but they play there own way and have provided Port with a lot of x factor to go with their stock standard midfielders - these players set them up to change the game and provide a playing style different
Just imagine if we can land 3 players of that quality with our picks, look what it did for them, we have a higher base than they did when they landed those kids. It'll basically be like adding those kids to a side that just went back to back & 3 of the last 4 flags....
We can potentially land our best young mids in this Draft.

Port had 5, 12 & 18
Essendon had 7,8,9

We have 7, maybe 16 or 17, and 26 - all getting pushed back at least 2 picks.
We should get 2 similar as a comparison, which is great, but they both had much better hands to play with.

Only watched half of WA v SA and haven’t seen any kids apart from that. My judgement therefore lacks credibility but I liked the look of a few.

Amiss seems to be a good Jack replacement. A good foil for our other forwards because he is a bit different - not a lumbering type. Strong mark, quick, accurate kick. Is there a doubt on his kicking distance?

I liked Ferres, Bazzo, Dittmar, Williams and also Benning; I haven’t seen anyone mention him but he looked a likely type.

Anyway, as I said: I haven’t watched enough so I wouldn’t have a clue but it certainly seems that we will have opportunities to get good players.

Benning is a Freo NGA kid. Can't be matched in top 20 but won't go that early.
I also liked Ferres but unsure how he goes at AFL level? Been playing as CHF but only 190 cm tall. Basically the position we don't play Caddy in....

I reckon he'll slide quite a bit, at what point do you think we'd have a crack?
As someone said we already have someone similar in Biggy.
Having 2 Project talls already(Mate & Biggy)is the max you'd want on a list.

Benning is part of Freo's academy so unless someone takes a big punt on him he's likely to go there. Interested in what you thought of Matty Roberts, the left footer from SA and Mathew Johnson, the tall rangy mid from WA ?

We desperately need wingers. Naish and Caddy (likely) gone. That leaves McIntosh and Pickett, maybe Ralphsmith. Pretty grim.

I feel like wingers are going to be very important moving forward. We’ve neglected this position for a while and got away with it but I think it’s time to invest.

Get a couple of KPD's and release Balta

Terry Milera was shagging at 14 years old. Maybe we can get his son...

Today you're suggesting we desperately need wingers, yet when I suggested a couple of wingers a few days back you laughed at the suggestion

Just to refresh Sandringham Dragons pair Josh Sinn(186cm/82kg) and Campbell Chesser(186cm/83kg) are a couple that fit the criteria that would give us exactly what we both seem to think could be a good option.

Who did you suggest?

I can’t see Tigers going for a ruckman that early. We have 5 ruckman on the list under the age of 27. The fact we will have at least 4 of them vying for a spot in the 22 every week next season and the next couple after that, would mean we would have a top 10 pick wasting away in the vfl for 3-4 years.
The only way they look at Andrew is if he is a legitimate once in ageneration type athlete.
chol 24
Coleman-Jones 22
Nank 27
Soldo 25
Colina 22 (rookie)
Just to add to this conversation a little further.
A name I didn’t add to this list of ruckman on the list is Samson Ryan.
With him in mind, having CCJ, Chol, Nankervis, Soldo, Colina and Ryan gives us actually 6 ruckman under the age of 27.

I just can’t see in any way we take a ruckman with any picks, unless we lose both CCJ and Chol and Soldo is not recovering in a good way.

Thought it would be useful to put up a depth list based on our current list. Have removed Astbury Houli & Naish.

Interesting when you look at the list like this, while we've got a good core of established albeit aging stars, you'll also notice that our youth is pretty well spread out, with a new core establishing itself with the likes of Balta Bolton Graham Broad Baker Short D.Rioli Castagna leading the way. (Yes I know not all of them played well this year)

As I've mentioned previously I'm not sure an inside mid is as big a need as everyone suggests as I like the look of Ross RCD Dow & Martyn as a young group coming through along with Graham and Bolton. As I said above some outside class that can deliver the ball inside 50 quickly and accurately would really make a difference to our side moving forward. Also some young KPP talent to develop alongside CCJ Ryan Colina Miller Nyoun would round the list off nicely and give our next era a solid foundation to build from.
