Interesting interview. Things I took from it.
- We aren't looking to trade out pick 7
- We are looking to trade picks to better our situation - could include 2022 picks.
- We are in the market for a trade/FA for a player. But nothing on who or what type.
- But he did discuss mids who can get the ball and use it as super valuable. So I gather that is the type he has top of the list.
- He had a top 3, then it evens off. So my guess from that is that we aren't going to try and get a top 5 pick. We will probably be really happy to get more picks in the teens though.
- RFC have looked at other dynasty teams and have a worked through strategy for what they want to do. Sounded like a mix of picks and trades/FA. But we do have a long term strategy fully worked out.

My prediction:

Our first selection: a half back flanker with good character
Our second selection: whoever captained SA's under 18 side

And a gem or two out of the rookie draft.

It's the Richmond way.

You forgot a mature pickup from WA.

We should play draft bingo 😂😂

invest heavily in the pre-season draft, that's where our best & fairests typically come from...

Last year there was a great colour coded post (like the one for drafts picks now) that was stickied that had all the players contract status. Can that be updated and stickied again mods? Useful to know when talking about who's likely to be cut. Or can someone even put a list of players coming out of contract this year?

If it was a ping then fair enough but it must have been serious to keep him out for 3 months. I feel for the kid. I guess it will come down to medicals. It might see him slide tho.

I’d hate to see us risk pick 7 on an already injured prospect, using our next pick mightn’t be so bad.

Jackson was in charge then as well. Clark took over 2-3 yrs ago & we haven't known in that time.
we’ve been picking in the 20 range. Also it was known last year if Macrae went before us we’d trade the pick which is what happened

I have a hunch that both GWS & GC are considering Gibcus.
Bit of a reach for GWS to pick him with pick 2 instead of Callahan, but if they don't GC are a good chance to pick him with the next pick.
GWS could otherwise safely downgrade a few spots, but not with GC a risk to take Gibcus.
If GC downgrade their first pick, GWS could follow suit as long as they stay ahead of them.
I don't think there are any other clubs likely to pick Gibcus over a midfielder in the top 5 or so picks. Even Freo are more likely to go for Amiss if they go a KPP over a midfielder.

I feel like it could be a very interesting draft night.
Pies and Dogs are going to have to scramble for maximum points before the draft begins, but may then be desperate to get back into the early rounds.
There could be ways to exploit that to really improve our draft hand next year.
I'm actually annoyed that you can't take extra picks to the draft - with the live trading you should be allowed to.

Vic kids won’t be playing any more matches this year

Many Vic kids lucky to have played 10 games across 2 years

Darcy , Francis, Daicos, Callaghan top 4. Then a group of 10 he really likes

he’s quite bullish about this years draft, said good depth upto 30ish.

The opposite view to it being a tough draft to pick from due to COVID is there could be some gems later. Some recruiters will take kids without seeing them play live. Back to the dark old days (JON 😂)

Jye Amiss real talent
Wanganeen -Millera ? A star in the making

Yeah, I think it was Sydney that stuffed it by loading up with later picks so they could accumulate the points for matching an early bid. They also led to a change of rules for future pick swapping.
I guess just taking picks to the draft that have to be 'live' does even out the field.

I, for one, would be keenest on getting my hands on the Pies future 1st by possibly trading the Geelong pick and a sweetener this year or next.

We'll need to open up a couple of spots on the list to take advantage of the 6 picks we have inside 45.

There's going to be some sliders and others that clubs will reach for.

Yeah agree
You’d reckon down the track there’s going to be more of these kids picked up as 20-22 year olds than we’ve seen previously.

Thats a really good point, Mature agers and mid season draftees will be ready made more than ever.

Suspect we'll be looking for a trade opportunity or to get into 2022. It'd be awesome if we could get another good pick next year. From what I have heard 2022 is supposed to be the year for talls. And it's always good to have picks in the first 2 rounds.

Might be idea to try and do some pick swapping and load up for next year's draft. Might be a few that completely slip through and have a year developing in the VFL next year and really show what they can do. At least mid-season spots should be kept open.

Read an article about GC looking to drop back. A deal that seems about fair would be 3 + 19/21 for 7 + 14/16. I'm not expert on the draft but I would probably prefer 7 + 14/16? Would do the same deal for pick 2 though as there seems to be a jump
