Might be idea to try and do some pick swapping and load up for next year's draft. Might be a few that completely slip through and have a year developing in the VFL next year and really show what they can do. At least mid-season spots should be kept open.
Read an article about GC looking to drop back. A deal that seems about fair would be 3 + 19/21 for 7 + 14/16. I'm not expert on the draft but I would probably prefer 7 + 14/16? Would do the same deal for pick 2 though as there seems to be a jump
We'd probably have to stump up 7 + 16 for pick 2, not worth it.Read an article about GC looking to drop back. A deal that seems about fair would be 3 + 19/21 for 7 + 14/16. Yep, GCS are more likely to trade pick 3 for 2 later 1sts.I have seen this trade mentioned, but if you are GC, it actually makes no sense IMO

Would do 7+ 14/16 for 3 and 19. Pick 19 is the money ball pick. Clubs usually pay overs for the first pick of the second day.Read an article about GC looking to drop back. I'd only want to do that in live trading if the player we want is still there at Pick 3. Given it will likely slide down to Pick 5, we wouldn't want to do that and miss out on the player we are targeting.Would do 7+ 14/16 for 3 and 19. Pick 19 is the money ball pick. I think there would be a few phone calls if GWS took Gibcus at their pick. The Tigers, you would think, would have a deal sorted with GCS should they deem Callaghan worth the trade.I'd only want to do that in live trading if the player we want is still there at Pick 3. Like both those two. Reckon Amiss will get taken by Freo at 6 (8) assuming they get it off Carlton for Cerra.Jye Amiss real talent
Wanganeen -Millera ? A star in the making
But the way I see it:I think there would be a few phone calls if GWS took Gibcus at their pick. The Tigers, you would think, would have a deal sorted with GCS should they deem Callaghan worth the trade.
???Why not Tigers take Callaghan with pick 2,GWS use pick 3 for Gibcus, and Gold Coast have later picks to draft with after a trade if thats what the clubs want to do at the draft in terms of selections?
Yes, would only happen if GCS still want 2 x 1sts with Callaghan still available. But the way I see it:
If GWS take Gibcus, then Gold Coast should prefer to keep pick 3 and take Callahan.
If GWS take Callahan, then Gold Coast will want to trade down as they think Gibcus will last to our pick, but with Callahan gone, it's not worth it for us.
Catch-22 with the current picks.
I'm hoping both Geelong and the Dogs get knocked out this week and we can get our hands on the Dogs' pick.Let's hope pick 16 becomes pick 14 tonight! 7 and 14 would be a sensational haul for our club.
Why swap out a round 1 pick this year when the talent pool is pretty decent, just so you can claim an unknown pick next year? Sorry but it just doesn’t make any sense to me at all. Pies may well bounce with Fly as their coach?Yeah, I think it was Sydney that stuffed it by loading up with later picks so they could accumulate the points for matching an early bid. They also led to a change of rules for future pick swapping.
I guess just taking picks to the draft that have to be 'live' does even out the field.
I, for one, would be keenest on getting my hands on the Pies future 1st by possibly trading the Geelong pick and a sweetener this year or next.
Fair enough, it's definitely a gamble. Why swap out a round 1 pick this year when the talent pool is pretty decent, just so you can claim an unknown pick next year? Sorry but it just doesn’t make any sense to me at all. Pies may well bounce with Fly as their coach?
Can’t remember Mate but I do recall thinking it was a bit of a risky strategy from the Pies. Mind you, I did not think they’d plummet to 17thFair enough, it's definitely a gamble.
What did GWS give up for the Pies pick 2 this year?

and they did it as they wanted to participate in the draft in a meaningful way last yearDELICIOUS!Let's hope pick 16 becomes pick 14 tonight! 7 and 14 would be a sensational haul for our club.
Praying need a big big sound in the west tonight
I don't think anyone expected them to fall that far, but bottom 6-10 was the consensus. Can’t remember Mate but I do recall thinking it was a bit of a risky strategy from the Pies. Yeah, only allowed to have as many picks as list spots availableIf we know exactly what we're after then we could really exploit the live pick trading.
Here's what happened last year:
TRADES MADE ON DRAFT NIGHT 2020
1. Collingwood gains picks 41 and 42. Hawthorn gains picks 62, 69 and a future second-round pick.
2. Adelaide gains pick 34. Port Adelaide gains pick 38 and a future fourth-round pick.
3. Geelong gains Pick 20. Richmond gains a future first-round pick. (Even if they win premiership can't rally lose on this)
4. Collingwood gains picks 24, 30 and a future fourth. GWS gains a future first-round pick. Turned out better for GWS than anyone expected. Collingwood may take on similar deals this year to get back into the draft after bid-matching
5. Brisbane gains picks 35 and 46. Fremantle gains Pick 29.
6. Adelaide gains Pick 25. Collingwood gains Pick 27 and a future third-round pick.
7. Fremantle gains picks 27 and 59. Collingwood gains Pick 30 and a future third-round pick.
----------> Deals 6 & 9 are the sort of deals I like. Slide yourself a few spots and gain future third round or a future upgrade.
8. Fremantle gains picks 53 and 57. Collingwood gains Pick 46.
9. St Kilda gains Pick 43. Hawthorn gains Pick 54 and a future fourth-round pick.
10. Essendon gains picks 49 and 50. Brisbane gains Pick 42.
11. Melbourne gains a future third-round pick. Hawthorn gains Pick 46 and a future fourth-round pick.
12. Collingwood gains Pick 44. Port Adelaide gains Pick 49 and a future fourth-round pick.
I'm just a bit confused as this year that you aren't allowed to bring "extra" picks. So a deal like 5: 35 & 46 for 29 means whoever receives the 2 picks now has an extra pick they can't use? Fair enough if you have some really sh*t late picks I suppose, or reckon someone else will trade your excess for futures?
