Got the following info tonight from a mate of player mgr PC
-Pick 7, 16 and Caddy to GC
-Pick 3 and 19 or 22 to Tigers (wasn't too sure of the 2nd pick ging back the other way)
That doesn't sound too bad.
Pick 3 still not good enough for Callahan, but gives us our pick of Hobbs, Ward or Erasmus.

Depends how keen we are on Amiss, Van Rooyen or Williams.
I think Amiss would be gone by 16 but the other two available.
At 19, fair chance Van Rooyen has gone but Williams still available.
At 22, all 3 could be gone.

Mind you, was thinking the same way last year regarding the KPF and so many of them undrafted and we didn't even look at them in Supplementary selection period either?

Why would GCS do this? For a 29 year old.
If they're confident the player they like will be there at 7 (9), it improves their second pick? Plus they get Caddy (clearly the "steak knives" in that deal overall)

Dunno, seems risky, but they'd have a fair idea who they like and where they're likely to go.

That would be good for us but wouldn’t make any sense at all for the Suns.

Realistically if Caddy goes it’d be for next to nothing, a third or fourth rounder is all we could hope for.

Pick 19 would be ideal. The first pick on the second draft night which always get lots of interest from other clubs.

2018
West Coast had Gold Coast 2nd round pick (pick 23) traded it back to the Gold Coast with a future 5th for picks 27 and 32

2019
Port had first pick in second round (22) traded with future 4th to Brisbane for pick 23 and Collingwoods future 2nd

Last year's draft over one night

Just because the kids aren't able to play this year, it doesn't mean that the club has no intel on them. Most of the kids will have been watched for a good 4 years as they came through the U16s and while they won't play Champs this year, they did play a number of games this year, including trial games for the Champs as well where they would have gone up against each other. I'm happy to back our recruiters to use the knowledge they have gathered over the last few years to make as informed decisions as possible on the kids.

By trading out of this years draft, like we did last year we're effectively missing 2 years of top end talent being added to the list. That will create a gap in the list in terms of age profile. It might mean that we raid WA & SA for our kids rather than going after Victorian kids, or it could mean that some of the Victorian kids that we didn't think we could get fall into our laps if other sides above us target the SA & WA kids

It’s far from ideal. I remember Tom swift was the best under 16 in the country, which was his peak as far as his career went. Petracca on the other hand was a 20 ish pick early in the season and kept rising over the year and should of gone 1.

Under age form is no real indicator. This is a terrible year to have such a good draft hand.

Would definitely be open to shifting some of our draft capital to next year. There'll be some good players in this pool no doubt but I'm a bit concerned by having our massive draft year being with such a disrupted cohort
Could also be an issue next yr as well, which would be worse as the kids would have effectively missed 3 yrs of footy instead of the current 2....

Even if we got a 3rd, that'd give us 3 of 3rds so we can package them up for a better pick.

Agree it's not ideal, but we're not going in blind either. As I said yesterday trading out just creates a hole in our list age wise given we only brought in Ryan and Rioli Jr last year.

If we were to trade out of this year, I've looked at a possible trade where we help the Dogs get points for matching Darcy by trading for their 2022 R1 pick instead of this years R1 pick. That would then give us another 2 first round picks for 2022, which then opens up options for trading for Green or someone else, or taking another couple of highly rated kids

That’s be a great trade for us. Even if it’s 22 could potentially trade later picks for Bulldogs first rounder.

That trade effectively values Caddy at 19/22 We would have to offer something back.

You have to ask why GCS are wanting to trade out pick 3 for 2 other 1st round picks, and the reason is that they see the talent as very even after the top 4 have gone. The only way I would like to see us do that deal is if we then traded #3 for 2 x 1st round picks. It's a convoluted way to just get Caddy off the books.

Reason I recon 22 could be involved is I don’t think Gold Coast would intend on using pick 22 as they are struggling to find the list spots.

Josh Caddy is a dual premiership player, he's not a dud.
The interested to get pick 5 (3) looks like out aim to ensure we get the best remaining midfielder - Hobbs, Ward etc.

They could quite conceivably be available at pick 7 anyway. Draft pundits are ranking those players between 4-14 as being quite even, we would be effectively throwing away a 1st round pick.
