We can do better than Hobbs and we most certainly should not be trading up so we can take him. Going to be a good player and arguably the most ready to go player in the draft but we should aiming high which I don't think Hobbs has the ceiling of other draftees.

Sounds like a real student of the game. Works hard, models his game on some stars. Big clearance and tackle numbers. Can go forward. This is the guy for us I feel
"He's just one of those players that, from an individual point of view, he always wants to improve himself."
"Recruiters see Joel Selwood in Hobbs' game."
Feck orff sounds more like Trent Cotchin to me...

Who would you be aiming for?

That would be good for us but wouldn’t make any sense at all for the Suns.

Realistically if Caddy goes it’d be for next to nothing, a third or fourth rounder is all we could hope for.
If Caddy goes, we'll be paying half his salary. GC do NOT have cap space.

Got the following info tonight from a mate of player mgr PC
-Pick 7, 16 and Caddy to GC
-Pick 3 and 19 or 22 to Tigers (wasn't too sure of the 2nd pick ging back the other way)
I would do that deal in a heartbeat. Guarantees us one of Callaghan and Hobbs. Hobbs would probably slot into our team from day one and have a Selwood/Walsh type immediate impact.

Added bonus is we get Caddy off the books.

Bazzo voted BOG in the WA vs SA game

Hopefully he will be available at our 2nd round picks. He has slid down the rankings because of injuries this season.

Admittedly haven't seen a lot of this draft (not many have if we are honest) but have seen most of the rebels games and Hobbs while clearly a great ball winner lacks the polish for me to 1. a Richmond pick and 2. be a guy I would trade up for and in all likelihood use a top 10 pick on. Reminds me a lot of Taylor Adams who is a player I rate to a certain degree but I would rather aim high than take the safer option.

Is less about what others have showed over him and more from what I've seen of Hobbs.

Quote from Knightmares assessments of Hobbs

Weaknesses

"Rarely wins the ball at speed or on the move which leads to limited time and space in congestion
Speed
Athleticism
Agility "

Not a great list for a higher first round pick.

In fact Hobbs reminds me of a young Josh Caddy.

Adams is a gun. Try not to think about the club he plays for and his offensive head. He’s a seriously good player. Has had a few injuries as well so could’ve been marginally better. If we got a player of Adams quality with our first pick you’d surely take it. Adams and Prestia are very similar.

He reads as the exact type we need and the board here having been screaming out for.
Inside bull and with the character to go with it.

Yeah, I've jumped on the Hobbs train. We need an accumulator, someone who wins the ball and conversely denies the opposition possession out of the middle. Even if he's a Tom Mitchell type with limited outside hurt factor he can be getting it out to classier types. We take him we're guaranteed an A-grade extractor and can then use our remaining first rounders to target more rounded mids.

I wouldn't call him a gun. He is good and very good on his day, works both ways and wins a lot of his own ball. I would settle for a player of his quality assuming preferred options are off the board, but I wouldn't trade up to get a player of his quality and I would be aiming for something higher with a top 10 pick.

Referring back to Hobbs I don't think much separates him from Matt Roberts who potentially could be had with our second pick (Geelongs first rounder).

You trade for need and draft best available.

By the time Hobbs has established himself (2-3 years time) our needs could be completely different.

Last night reinforced to me the need for us to find some class outside ball users who can run and carry through the middle and deliver the ball inside 50. Macrae McLuggage Smith Hunter are the type of hybrid midfielders that we're missing from our group. The type of players who can win contested footy when they need to, but can also open teams up on the outside with clean ball use when they get it in time and space. Whether we add them through the draft or at the trade table I think it's something that we need to address moving forward.

Interesting those votes WA v SA - 2 KPD voted best

Erasmus didn’t play? Cal Twomey talking him up as a genuine mid wins his own ball, also can hit the scoreboard. High on WCST snd Freos wish lists.

WA pair - Erasmus and VanRooyen , would be pretty good draft haul, add class and needs.
Don't forget Ward. In my opinion was BOG in the Vic Metro/Country game. Faster than Hobbs and on a par with Daicos. One of Erasmus, Ward, Hobbs in that order would do the trick then a KPP.

We’ve got a genuine need for an inside mid, but best available with our first which is what Matty Clarke said in his recent interview.
Sounds as though Ward like Erasmus has a good inside/outside midfield balance which makes them more attractive.
Think there’ll be some pure inside mids still available with our 2nd R picks if we want to go down that track

Under age form is no real indicator. This is a terrible year to have such a good draft hand.

i tend to agree.
Pick 7 & 16 we should look at trading for future picks.
I'd be knocking on Norths/Crows/Suns & Freo's door.

I wouldnt be trading for future picks unless its a no brainer like the GWS/Pies trade

This is a decent draft with some really nice KPP which we need with Jack getting to the end and grimes 30 as well as astbury finished
Top 30 is good and we have 4 picks and could possibly have 5 if we trade out the 3 x 3rd rounders

Ending up with a haul of Erasmus , Van Rooyen , Bazzo would be amaing

All those players are essentially wingers, with inside ball winning ability who were pretty much all taken with early draft selections. You're right that we don't have those types on our list, maybe Balta could with his aerial ability an added bonus.
Who would you choose out of this years draft to fill that position?
