Footscray winning tonight is a great result for our pursuit of their first rounder. Being a very late first rounder it makes it far less appealing to clubs that have to effectively wipe out their draft hand like say a Geelong, or those that would need something back because of the high end value of their second rounders like Hawthorn. Having two first rounders that we will definitely go to the draft with plus two middish 2nd rounders and an early and middish 3rd to barter with is obviously the sweet spot to be in. A lot can change come trade period but at the moment it's ours to lose.

It depends on where he is bid on. Pick 1 sees the Dogs needing 2400 points. Pick 2 is 2013 points. Pick 3 is 1787 and so on.

It’s frustrating as a supporter but players need to do what’s best for them, their careers and therefore ability to earn can be over in the blink of an eye.

CJ for example may see his opportunities limited with Soldo back, Lynch/Reiwoldt locks and Ryan/Calin developing.

So he re-signs for 2 years, possibly as a backup V going to a club where he’ll get a longer contract and guaranteed game time

That's why we desperately need Footscray's first. Throw that in and we have the luxury of not having to risk waiting deep into the second round for a tall. Apparently it's a midfielders draft and you can throw a blanket over a lot of them up to pick 30. Just saying it's not simply what it gets for you, it's what it allows you to do with your other picks.
