It's been like that for 20 years. That, and an elite defence is generally the premiership combo.

I think our defence is going to be elite next year. Balta, Grimes, Broad, Vlastuin, Tarrant, Short. That’s as good as any

Unfortunately that could probably only be via trade. Pick 7 isn't going to get us a Walsh, Rowell or Dusty that's a gun from year 1.

Need a game breaker with our first pick. If there is one available at three it makes sense to do what we need to to trade up.

Exactly. Petracca is 25, Oliver 24, Brayshaw 25, Viney 26.

Our picks aren't high enough, and even then, they won't be game winning style mids for a handful of years, and by then Dusty, Grimes, Broad, Lynch (let alone Cotchin, Riewoldt) are gone.

Our best chance is to jag one last flag with this group. Otherwise we really need to get a bunch of high quality players to that mid 20's, 100+ games mark together (i.e. a few lean years, and high draft picks).

Reckon there is a pretty even draft pool of 20-25 players after the top 2 tiers. To get 4 or 5 players in the top 35 and to trade out into next year's draft would be a great result for the club.

This draft is a midfielder's draft, I'm hoping we can snare a couple of gems. After what I saw tonight and during the season with both Dees and Dogs mids., paramount to rejuvenate our midfield. Oliver and Petracca set the scene. They also have very good ball users across the park.

I think people severely overrated draft picks impact in their first year. Very, very few make a tangible difference in year 1.

If we want a recruit to drive a flag it'd have to be a Cerra/Green type trade. Someone who is ready to go AFL seasoned and developed.

I dont think the next mids are going to be year 1 guys. That's a very, very rare group.

Hobbs, Ward or Callaghan are the 3, I am hoping we can snare one of them.
I am not only looking that our first-year player is going to make a big impact, but I'm also looking to rebuild our midfield and add in some talls with our strong draft hand which could get better on draft night with some wheeling and dealing.

Ollie Wines was pick #7 Cripps was #13 just to name a few

The idea is to have moments in games and bring about a youthful engergy back into the club. Also being decent enough to be in the 22. Not asking for game winners as we have those. Just players that take to position of a Geroge, Pickett, Aarts

The players that come to mind that will fall to our picks that are big body athletic 'beast' like players are Josh Goater & Ned Long
Great speed big body extremely athletic mids that have massive upside
