The players that come to mind that will fall to our picks that are big body athletic 'beast' like players are Josh Goater & Ned Long
Great speed big body extremely athletic mids that have massive upside

Josh Goater fits the bill and is likely to land around our 2nd "first-rounder". But wouldn't surprise if he is taken earlier.

NED LONG - Speed and endurance are not his strong suit, that's a premium in this day and age, Pass.
Goater on the other hand, rate him highly.

Where do you get these profiles ?

Long / Goater / RCD / Ross
There is alot of size speed and power through the midfield rotating foward along with Dusty

Wow

Ward plays like Marc Murphy
Alleer & Avery 7th & 8th
Bodhi Uwland 11th but Hobbs 19th and Johnson 18th

His rankings are very very different to what will happen at the draft i think

Agree! People mistake his monthly power rankings for expected draft order. Hobbs will go top 10.
Alleer & Avery we know they won't be top 10.

Wouldnt take too much notice of plays like Murphy. Ward has genuine pace, murphy doesn't. Also, he's a good ball user.

I don't mind reading some of these different pages more so AFL draft central than ESPN.

Even Dusty MK2 in his first year is unlikely to be much more than a role player. Far more critical to our flag chances will be keeping Cotch, Prestia, Nank, Edwards etc. fit and fresh.

Rowell a couple of years ago was probably about the only player to come in at near A grade level from year 1. And he was widely regarded as about the most complete, ready made AFL player to ever come into the system.

Cotchin and Edwards will only be role players. They’ve had there day in the sun. We need to hope the younger boys can step up.

Keeps getting said, but I'll say it again. Trading up to 3 with Gold Coast (who we have a great relationship with so I doubt we'd be getting robbed) is a clever move. Ward began show some serious serious form to end his season and I'm not a recruiter or a scout nor am I ITK, but I believe a few people from what I read reckon if the season was longer then he was just going to keep climbing and climbing potentially into the bracket with that consensus 4, and he isn't getting past Hawthorn. If Callaghan falls which there's hope he could then we grab him and we've got a 190+ mid that has everything to be that current-day stereotypical inside outside gun that everyone creams themselves over.

Yep, our improvement is more likely to come from RCD, Cumberland, Miller and Ryan than it is from pick 7, 15 and 26. A strong draft hand has its real impact in 3+ years time.

We need to do what we can to get Ward, we haven't had this opportunity since we got, cochin, Dusty.
The time to trade down is now...
One absolute gun among the talent we already have give it 2 years and look out!!!

I'm not going to act like some expert, but here are some names accessible to us:

Finn Callaghan: 189cm | 82kg - Midfielder
Ben Hobbs: 183cm | 80kg - Inside Midfielder
Josh Ward: 181cm | 79kg - Midfielder
Josh Goater: 190cm | 79kg - Midfielder
Matthew Roberts: 183cm | 81kg - Midfielder
Matthew Johnson: 193cm | 80kg - Inside Midfielder

This is only to name a few. We should be able to improve our midfield's prospect this year with the amount of decent picks we have so no excuses.
While I'm not fixated on these players as I'm no expert, I'd like us to take one of Callaghan or Ward with our first pick and Goater and/or Johnson with later picks. From what I read/seen, these guys are the players that would seriously address our midfield needs, whether it's their explosiveness or their work in the contests.

In the end, we should pick at least 3 midfielders this draft. Would be nice if those three came from this group. Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera would also be a nice addition

Some clarification on list make up

Clubs can have a maximum of 42 listed players (not including up to two Category B rookies), made up of 36-38 primary listed players and 4-6 Category A rookie listed players. Clubs must also take at least three players via the NAB AFL Draft this season which automatically join the primary list.

As it stands we have 28 senior, 4 Cat A rookies and 1 Cat B rookie contracted for 2022.

Does that mean we can theoretically draft up to 12 players if CCJ and Chol leave? I don’t know how this works tbh

Still uncontracted are:

Senior List
CCJ - requested trade
Cumberland
Garthwaite
Nyoun

Free Agent
Tarrant

If we re-sign those in bold and add Tarrant we'll have up to 5 spots available in the draft. With the chance that we only draft 4 and leave a spot for either the SSP period over summer or the mid season draft.

Rookie
DES
Miller
Stack

Miller and Stack being re-signed as rookies would fill our rookie list.

Jay Clark in the HeraldSun's live chat:

"I'm told the Tigers have an interest in Ben Hobbs in this year's draft. Competitive midfielder who loves to have a crack.

To get him the Tigers would have to move up from 7 to 3. So, I think there is a big chance there is a deal here between the Suns and Tigers, but plenty to play out."

Does Jay Clark have a crystal ball. The use of the word would implies he knows the players picked in the top 7.

Yes we should try to trade up, but not throw the kitchen sink for pick 3. Could be done as a live trade on draft night.

7 + 26/28 for 3 or 7 + 15 for 3 + 19/22

Is Hobbs really worth moving up for? If that’s who we’re interested, then why not just keep pick 7 and 15? I feel like he’ll be there at that pick. Knightmare’s write-up on his weaknesses does have me apprehensive about the club picking him up though. He wrote:

Weaknesses:
A stationary ball winner who rarely wins the ball at speed or on the move
Limited time and space in traffic
Lack of speed
Lack of athleticism
Lack of agility
Low impact per possession

Only one I think we should be moving up for is Callaghan or Ward by the looks of it in my opinion. It looks like things are even from 6-20 when it comes to the midfielders.

We haven’t leaked our hand early for a few years now, and definitely have no reason now with a high pick.
