We haven’t leaked our hand early for a few years now, and definitely have no reason now with a high pick.
Yes, the club is very secretive about who they will select. even when we meet and go through selections as a coterie group they tell us their top 20 in order but often do not pick the guy who has ranked ahead in that order.

Is Hobbs really worth moving up for? If that’s who we’re interested, then why not just keep pick 7 and 15? I feel like he’ll be there at that pick. Knightmare’s write-up on his weaknesses does have me apprehensive about the club picking him up though. He wrote:

Weaknesses:
A stationary ball winner who rarely wins the ball at speed or on the move
Limited time and space in traffic
Lack of speed
Lack of athleticism
Lack of agility
Low impact per possession

Only one I think we should be moving up for is Callaghan or Ward by the looks of it in my opinion. It looks like things are even from 6-20 when it comes to the midfielders.
Hobbs video highlights only confirm these Weaknesses in my book..

Trading up would only be if Callahan was available at 3(5). Hobbs will be there at 7.
If we were to trade up I would try to get pick 1. North get CCJ, 7, 15. Richmond get pick 1, Tarrant, Nth’s 2022 2nd round.

I believe the Hawks are keen on Ward so certainly no guarantee he would get through to pick 7. No chance of getting Norths pick, they have been gearing up for Horne-Francis for over 12 months.

Does Jay Clark have a crystal ball. The use of the word would implies he knows the players picked in the top 7.

Yes we should try to trade up, but not throw the kitchen sink for pick 3. Could be done as a live trade on draft night.

7 + 26/28 for 3 or 7 + 15 for 3 + 19/22
Would prefer 7+26 for 3 but Suns wouldn't do that.

Trade 28,Chol compo 40 & 44 for dogs 17 +future 2nd/3rd

3,15,17,38

Tarrant swap of late picks(next year) our 3rd for their 4th plus Tarrant.

Next year have our 1st, 2nd and 2 4ths.

#3 (#5) - Finn Callaghan/Josh Ward
#15 (#17) - Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera/Josh Rachele/Josh Goater
#17 (#19) - Jacob Van Rooyen/ Matthew Roberts/ Matthew Johnson
#38 (may be lower) - Mitch Knevitt/ Jack Avery/ Luke Aleer

When you say their top 20 do you mean their prediction of the top 20? Would be weird they aren't taking the best available.

Was wondering if someone could help me understand our draft strategy. I’m assuming we will be taking an absolute max of 4 picks at the national draft, but will arguably hold 8 worthwhile picks (two 1sts, two 2nds, two 3rds and likely compo/trade picks for CJ and Chol).

If we managed to trade for the dogs 1st rounder for multiple later picks, we’d still go into the draft with more worthwhile picks than list spots. Will we aim to trade out picks and improve our draft hand for next year? As it looks like we aren’t actively in the trade market this year. Thanks!

Have you actually seen him play or just reading the Knightmare nuffy's posts?

There is a good reason he will never get a recruiting job at an AFL club

Knevitt is a great sized midfielder. 193cm . Quick good overhead, high possession getter. Performed at the best level available Metro v Country. In the top 4/5 players on the ground. Was continuing to improve every game for the Falcons.
He's very athletic and (my opinion only) was improving at a higher rate than just about any player this year.
I'd take him in the top 20. Very impressive. Only seen a small amount of footage of Long but to me knevitt looks a far better option.

Everything you mention also applies to Long and Long has been rated a better player until he was injured and has not played
Knevitt can get the ball but burns it a hell of alot as well. I do like Both but if both available at #28 Im taking long

Size, ceiling and rate of improvement are generally things a recruiter will be looking for. I can't say I've seen anything of him, but sounds like the type that might go earlier than expected? What are the weaknesses in his game?

I do not see much in his game that lacks but even though a great size he will need to gain muscle to compete with big midfielders on the inside. Will probably play most football on a flank/wing with short stints through the middle. Most young players take a couple of seasons to get hardened but I think he is progressing at a rate that suggests he could play early. I have noticed some of his handball is a bit loopy. Easily fixed.

Could we package something up to grab the suns pick 3?
Yez
The whispers are that we are keen on doing a deal with Gold Coast
So I’d say we have a target in mind. Very exciting
Would say as a complete guess it’ll be 7/15 from us for 3/19 for them and a future second going from us for their future third

Burns the football? I can’t say I’ve seen that. Didn’t see it in the metro v country game. I have vision of the Pioneers v Falcons game, I’ll go back and have closer look. He got BOG in that game.

Yes he played well that game but was not rated in the top 50 prior to that i believe

The most I’ve seen of him is his highlights compared to other high draftees. I can only form an opinion from what I have seen/what other people have said, but Ben Hobbs’ highlights don’t necessarily disprove what Knightmare said. Therefore, I can’t make a call on whether he’s bullcrapping. Another person on the draft board that does the same work as Knightmare (their username is something like EDPs I think) have Hobbs ranked at a similar position as well from what I have checked last.

The thing is that I am left amazed and in awe with the highlights reel of Ward, Darcy, Horne, Daicos, and Gallaghan. That’s what I think you’d want to feel when seeing the highlights of a player at around pick 3. I just don’t feel the same about Hobbs’ highlights reel.

Again, I’m forming an opinion based on the information from others and the footage available to me right now. Doesn’t mean that it won’t change down the track, but I think there are better options at pick three from what I have seen and what I have read.
