Hobbs seems to be very underrated on this board. A lot in the media seem to think clubs rate him ahead of Ward, including us.Watched the Mock Draft on the HS site just now, why? Because I'm a sucker.
Anyway, they did a live trade between Richmond and Adelaide at Pick 6 (after bids) where Richmond give up 9 and 17 for 6 and 35 (plus future swaps)... and then select Ben Hobbs.
I can't see us doing anything like that when Ben Hobbs could be available at our pick anyway.
I get the feeling we'd only live trade for Callaghan..... maybe Ward.
I thought the same. Wonder if they'd be keen to trade out pick 9 and say a future 3rd for 26, 27, 28 knowing a bid is less likely now between 20-25?Interesting that Windhager has developed a “back” injury after he has been hyped up a bit of late by draft guru’s. Smart play by the saints.
He was OK. Maybe our expectations were too high and we wanted a messiah.
I personally think expanding the league to 18 teams has diluted the talent so much that we see more and more average/role players.
A guy like Tambling who was good for 20 touches a week and maybe a goal here and there would be fine in most teams.
I also think this is why the game is quite crap to watch these days. Too many hacks. If we had less teams then the standard to earn a game every week would be higher and we'd be watching better footy.
Every time we do a 'state of origin' match (2008 and recently after the bushfires) I always thoroughly enjoy the game due to the top shelf talent.

29 - We somehow lost pick 29 here - not sure if they made a mistake or traded it too?
Turns out I have a good memory....
If this is how our draft turned out, there would be scenes in my living room. Underwhelming.
Hawthorn would be doing backflips with that haul.
The full trade was picks 9 and 17 for their 6 and 35, plus a swap of future seconds.anyone have a full list of the picks?

I can't see Adelaide or Freo drafting Ben Hobbs, so if the club feel that way too.... We'd end up with Hobbs or Ward without the trade anyway. The full trade was picks 9 and 17 for their 6 and 35, plus a swap of future seconds.
Assuming we finish top six next year and Adelaide is bottom six, that means it's something like 9, 17 and 32 for 6, 22 and 35. That's not a bad deal for us.
Full list of picks is here:
I'd be interested in this. We get who we believe is the 2nd best available in the draft. Then we either have the best player on the 2nd or we trade 19. I reckon we could get one of Geelong's 2nds this year plus a 1st next year. Supposedly next year is a better talls draft and I can see Geelong dropping. But I would prefer to give up 28 than 26.Richmond 2,19 (7,15,26 out)
GWS 6,7 (2,13 out)
Fremantle 8,13,15,26 (6,19 out and keep 8)
Could someone please send this to all three clubs involved. The Fremantle person who came up with this gave it some really good thought.
Agree not that high on hobbs, this scenario reminds me a bit of the corey ellis draft where we take the fundamentally sound player over the higher upside big unit midfielder in Erasmus, Johnson, Goater. Sinn seems a bit high for a speedster with hamstring troublesNot yet but from memory they did this....

Agree, both Hobbs and Ward look very one paced, I don't get the raves. Jack Graham has shown that getting the ball at U18 level with average speed around the pack does not translate into getting it at AFL level. If you are tough and put your head over the ball in TAC games you can rack them up. Give me a player that can bust a pack with pace any day, unless they are Pendlebury, Bont types.Agree not that high on hobbs, this scenario reminds me a bit of the corey ellis draft where we take the fundamentally sound player over the higher upside big unit midfielder in Erasmus, Johnson, Goater. shocking deal
Why would be want a pick in 30s when we have 3 in a row in the 20s
No chance of this happening
We will pick at 7(9) and take what's left
Don't think this will make much of a difference, i'm guessing there will be a bunch of academy bids in the early 20's as the clubs have no option but to match essentiallyconvenient isn't it
effectively we are selling the farm for 4??? WTF??
Yuk,I'm starting to rate Josh Goater as equal to Callahan and would be happy as hell for Johnson, Erasmus, etc at 7(9).Not yet but from memory they did this....

I don't think 9, 17 and 32 for 6, 22 and 35 is a bad trade (estimating value of future picks). It must be said, the person who made the trade is Jordan Pinto who is an SA journalist - hard to say it doesn't heavily favour Adelaide for this draft, not including the future swaps.
Callaghan is a much much cleaner player than Goater.Yuk,I'm starting to rate Josh Goater as equal to Callahan and would be happy as hell for Johnson, Erasmus, etc at 7(9).
Like if we really liked Hobbs and were worried the Hawks might pounce then you could possibly do
7 and one of (26,27 or 28) for 4 and 35. No way you'd include 15
Even still though youd have to really love Hobbs and be certain Hawks or Freo were going to pounce before our pick.
