shocking deal

Why would be want a pick in 30s when we have 3 in a row in the 20s

No chance of this happening

We will pick at 7(9) and take what's left
This is exactly what we should do.

I don't get why people are so keen to trade away a great draft hand in the hope that the kid we take at 2, 3 or 4 will be much better than the 2 kids we land at 9 & 17. The history of the draft is littered with players taken in the top 5 that weren't as good as those taken later in the top 30, if we believe our recruiters are as good as we say they are we should be backing them in to land the best available talent at our picks and give our list the depth that will help us keep competing for flags for years.

If you're of the opinion that Freo will take Erasmus and Amiss with their first two picks, the likelyhood is that they will take Erasmus first, knowing we are probably unlikely to take Amiss with our first but that we'd entertain taking Erasmus.

Try saying that with a mouthful of marbles.
sound a bit like the Latin I failed miserably at in year 8

point is, if pick 2, 3 or 4 was gettable, and we really wanted it, we would have done it all ready

It is easier to achieve with players and picks than it is just with picks.

Our draft hand is the envy of every other club in the league

We have pick 7, the first top 10 pick we have had in a decade

We have a pick 10 places lower, taking whichever highly rated slider gets there, maybe Goater/JVR who knows,

and then 10 picks later we have 3 in a row. Could end up with 3 of Williams/Knevitt/ Sheldrick/ Bazzo/Butler

Why stuff that up for pick 2, 3, or 4, when Ward, Finn, Andrew, Hobbs, Gibcus, Rachelle have played what, 20 games in the last 2 years?

We will get one of the above regardless, I love the position we are in, we worked hard for it, no way we trade it all, it isn't gunna happen.

Can posters state how many times they've seen the kids play that they're praising or calling busts.
Just interested too see how much vision posters have watched to have such strong opinions on kids .

Ps i haven't watched any footage so no idea what's what with the kids .
The only thing i would like to see is some classy left footers on our list .

The only reason I used the point index was to help show how unbalanced it is.

Fremantle are giving up a single first round pick and a second round pick, but gain 2 firsts and a good second round pick, while we lose 2 firsts and a second to gain 1 first and 1 second. GWS is the only one that is somewhat balanced in terms of what they give up and get back.

That's why I don't like it and I'm not sure why many on here seem to. I get it's to try and land Callaghan, but truth be told I'd much rather stick with the picks we've got and bring in 5 kids that help us address list needs for the future.

Top up our needs from the draft and get some FAs/trades as we’ve been doing. If we can’t trade into the top 3 picks this year its not a big deal given how good we are at getting the right types into the club through the other player movement mechanisms.

We’re going to have a very young list in the next 2 years or so and plenty of cap space.

I will say I have seen none of them play live.

I have seen a few highlights, of a number of the players, I have seen the Vic Country v Metro match where Ward kicks a few goals and the SA WA match where Amiss kicks the goal from near the boundary on the run on youtube. Watched it a few times looking at specific players

That makes me a couch expert:p

But I am sure and I hope our recruiters know more...

By draft time how could we be wrong??

There we go! Close thread 😀

Have heard in a few different places that were very interested in bidding for GWS academy prospect Josh Fahey. Also side note, Fahey is close mate of GWS Tom Green.

I wouldn’t be surprised with pick 15 we placed a bid on him. Not certain if GWS have the points or ability to match at that pick? Do they need more picks for points? GWS have apparently been incredibly high on Fahey and stashed him away into their academy.

An absolute laser left foot, and was best on ground in the academy under 18 game VS Geelong Vfl.
Similar to Jayden Short in many ways but usage off half back is a huge weapon and adding this kid in replacement of an iffy Rioli and a inconsistent Stack would be a nice prospect.

Yes nice pick at 15 as long as Gibcus, or Van Rooyen is not still on the board;

Hobbs seems to be very underrated on this board. A lot in the media seem to think clubs rate him ahead of Ward, including us.

He's more likely to be taken by Adelaide at 6 than to last to us at 9. That's the rationale for the trade. Even if Adelaide doesn't take him, the Hawks are a good chance to at the next pick.

Hawks love left footers and will get Ward if available??

What I'm saying is that I don't think the Dockers will want to miss Erasmus by taking Amiss. The risk of missing Amiss will be less than the risk of missing Erasmus.

It's pretty simple.

Fully agree

I'm afraid their all right footers.

Next years draft will be one of the worst drafts in recent history. With two years of bassically next to no football development for kids in Vic the AFL should do something.

Allow Clubs in vic to sign kids to there VFL sides with the notion that be developed by the best for to make up for the two years of no football?

Or allow them to do training camps half way through the year .. similare to the NBA.

Agree, both Hobbs and Ward look very one paced, I don't get the raves. Jack Graham has shown that getting the ball at U18 level with average speed around the pack does not translate into getting it at AFL level. If you are tough and put your head over the ball in TAC games you can rack them up. Give me a player that can bust a pack with pace any day, unless they are Pendlebury, Bont types.

If we get a Jack Graham equivalent at pick-7 (9) I’d be pretty happy. 200-gamer with great leadership qualities. Where do I sign?

Really hope if we do get ward
Then we must get long
They were a great combination
In the middle the few games they played
Together at the Knights
The knights were the backbone of the 2017 premiership. Source of pride to a NE suburbs raised boy ⚔️
