Probably why we were happy to offer up pretty much our whole draft hand to get pick 1 off North.

RCD isn't sh*t-house. He's just a young player with deficiencies in his game. Likely no different to any draftee we bring in. You can either say "don't bother drafting then", or you can back in the coaches and development staff to, you know, coach and develop them?

The statement was to emphasise that RCD is bog average at best and I’d expect our first 2 picks to go straight past him in the pecking order. Every time I read an article stating that RCD is Richmond’s best hope going forward, I want to vomit. If he’s our future then ‘God help us’ we are headed for a big fall.

We won't be playing Jack at the number 1 option, he'll be second fiddle to a fit and healthy Lynch and if opposition coaches are thinking like some here, they might not even bother to put an opponent on him given Jack is all but finished as a footballer apparently.
A bit of an over reaction. Jack used to transfer the ball from the back half to the forward half, he can't do that like he used to. Lynch seems more stay at home, we play better when he doesn't, but a third tall to do that would help both and would help Jack's longevity.

Lynch needs a quality foil or oppos will just hang off him and shut him down. Samson Ryan could very well be getting paid $600 to play suburban footy by 2023. He was drafted as an overage brisbane academy player who Brisbane didn't even want. I must've seen Jayden Post 20 times playing for my local team never saw him kick more than 3 goals. The standard of Queensland football is bloody ordinary. A boss at work talked his son up because he was in the Brisbane academy also a few years ago. He's playing Victorian amateurs now. Colina mysteriously never even showed up for the Willy game this year and could amount to nothing or could take a few years (personally i hope he's a success cos i loved seeing stafford plonked in the square stick his mitts up and be unstoppable, also is good ties for in a few years where teams will throw the kitchen sink at old cousin Balta). Forgive me for having little faith in an old fart, a potential spud and a bloke who's priority is in America ATM as our KPF's to reliably kick bags deep into September. I'd hate to see Richmond back to the old days where we had spuds like Todd Bremen, Steven Jackson, Stephen Ryan, Stuard Edwards, Steven Jurica, Aaron James, etc as our tall forward options. Having another decent mid like a hobbs, ward, rachelle, erasmus won't be much good if they've got no one to kick it to.
We re not talking about Ryan’s qld form, it was his step up to vfl where he had several multi goal games . Not saying he’s a lock however he’s ticked all the boxes to date 12m into his career

The reason why balta will not play forward is because our backline is only good for a couple of years. Balta is going to have to learn to be the general down back because our current tall backmen will all be at retirement age. Where will our backline be then if Balta has not learnt the role? Use some common senses. Balta can swing forward, ruck etc but not permanently, and not for long.
Miller is ready. Might not be as good as Balta, but he can lock down due to his speed and athleticism.

But they were both young. Where are our young forwards?

Who were Melbourne’s young forwards 2-years ago? Brown, Pickett, Jackson were not there. For the Dogs a few years back Bruce, Weightman, Naughton were not there.

So I’m saying a forward line can come from nowhere. A quality draftee, a youngster bobs up (Stack/Ryan?), and a trade or free agent …. in addition to Lynch who has 2-3 quality years left and there u have it …. our forward line.

Like a lot of our premiership stars, Jack was banged up in the second half of the season. Got himself primed for his 300th and before the bye had kicked 33 goals from 13 games. No reason he can't have a season like those guys had last year coming off a full preseason and with any niggled sorted after having a full break before preseason begins.

I’ve said this once and I’ll say it a thousand times…. our KPF’s are the least of our worries. They kicks mid-80 goals with Lynch missing 5 games. It’s our smalls and mediums that are the issue …. we need goals from Dusty, Bolton, Caddy, Baker, Stack, Castagna, Aarts ….

a couple of things. We seem to hear that every year. How many will be tied in with father sons, academies etc?
Let’s say we bounce back into the top 8 or top 5 next year - will the x next best rated tall that will be available to us be better than the best rated tall this year?
I’ve seen a lot of experts talk about the lack of development in this draft crop bc of covid this year and last year, I think next years crop will be even more adversely affected as they’ve missed some absolute critical development years
I think it's pretty common knowledge that this years draft is thin on talent from a KPF point of view. I think it's a great draft from a midfielder and even defender point of view. Next year they have taller and more athletic options for key position forwards.

I think father time is catching up with Riewoldt fast and I'd be surprised if he manages 50 goals next year, probably more like something in the 30s. But that will suit me just fine.

Four more goals and he overtakes his cousin (more bragging rights to add to the three premierships). Plus a haul in the 30s will allow him to overtake the likes of Kernahan and Carey both of whom I loathe and despise, and Peter Hudson who before he went to Hawthorn was on Richmond's books.

34 goals he passes Saverio Rocca and that means we have Matthew Richardson, Kevin Bartlett and Jack Riewoldt all in a neat little row on the AFL all time goal kicking ladder at 12,13 and 14 respectively. My expectations of what Riewoldt will achieve in 2022 aren't as high as yours but that doesn't mean there isn't a lot to look forward to :)

Jack Riewoldt’s biggest strength is his football brain.

Neil Erasmus may be available at our pick as I’ve heard Freo gone cold on him. Would be high up on our board.

Adelaide in pole position for GWS pick 2 from what I hear.

This draft has so many different takes right now, some clubs rate players that others don’t, which is to be expected with the Covid situation.

A lot to play out still.

For all the people who believe Jack is finished i have a bottle of Scotch to bet he kicks 45 + goals in 2022 provided he plays 20 games
So you are the Gun. When is this year's Phantom Draft and will you choose Richmond as usual?

Not sure why every one keeps asking me that lol , That prick took a bottle of scotch off me as well

Happy to join if some body starts a mock (and wouldnt mind doing Richmond if you are offering to run it)

Rachelle to Freo instead?

Erasmus has high ceiling, reckon he could be like Fyfe if reached his potential. Ward and Hobbs the safer options.

Would be happy either of these 3 at pick 7 (9)

Expecting them to go straight past him is probably over rating the draftees, and their ability to impact in the first season or two. Maybe in the medium term you'll be right. RCD's biggest issue is his tank. An 18 year old who has come off two covid interrupted seasons is hardly going to be up to AFL levels of match fitness from the get go.

And yes, we may well be headed for a few lean years.

Time will tell if Miller is ready or even good enough, However, going forward we’ll need 2 big talls down back and Balta is the best option. Crazy to move him. His best form was in defence and weakening our defence is not the solution to any forward problems we may encounter.

All I ever hear in relation to RCD is that he’ll need to improve his tank. Well fourth year in the system coming up, no excuses. If he had not been a first round draft pick he would have been delisted by now. Shown absolutely nothing.
obviously as I do not rate RCD of course I think our first two draftees will be better than him.

Gee watching the replay of the Aussie 19’s vs Geelong vfl team and Fahey is bloody impressive. Wonder where he goes

Amazing how Callahan went from being a late inclusion in this game to consensus number 4 in the pecking order!
He’s far from impressive so far but as we know players grow at different stages of their top age year

It’s evident at this stage guys like Sonsie were the ones touted as high rankers as he’s been on ball a stack in this first term without doing anything. Daicos is a magnet and JHF will fit in beautifully at North. Wish we got more content of our Vic boys

No Hobbs or Ward to look at in this one is a shame, but it’s Nice watching Erasmus who obviously is another who may be available at our pick

Well let’s hope RCD has a cracking year and makes you look totally foolish.
