What about our first next year for Brisbanes pick 14?

I’m not sure what next years draft pool looks like, but pick 14 is what you get for finishing 5th. I know all draft years aren’t comparable, but you’d need to be confident we’re having a top 6 finish next season to trade out of our pick imo

Just thinking about all the different scenarios we could do. Do we go best tall with #9 (Gibcus) then mids and flankers? Or do we pick the best mid available (Hobbs/Ward) and then a Van Rooyen type?

Scenario 1 -
#9 - Gibcus KPD
#17 - Sinn/Sonsie FWD/MID
#28 - Macdonald IM
#29 - Taylor FWD/Mid
#30 - Chesser WING

Scenario 2 -
#9 - Ward/Hobbs/Johnson
#17 - Van Rooyen
#28 - Taylor
#29 - Howes
#30 - Williams/Bazzo

These next 20 odd days are gonna take forever.

Unpopular opinion on here possibly but I don’t fully understand why we wouldn’t take Mac Andrew if he was available and none of the top seven midfielders have slipped?

Top ten take the best available and we do need a tall or two just as much as midfielders.

People may be calling him speculative but he’s not any more or less speculative than any other Victorian who didn’t get to play many games. He also hasn’t totally come from out of the blue he’s been on the radar as a talent.

I like the thought of keeping our first rounder for next year
Not saying we’ll fall away but collingwood expected to be decent this year and gave up pick 2 ironically. We don’t have reason to trade it for a pick in the teens anyway. If we were packaging it up to get a top 5 pick then maybe a different story.

But I like having a first round pick each year cause it keeps the balance of the list even over time especially with our list ageing.

Seems to be a feeling that we’ll have a red hot crack at Tom Green next trade period once we have money freed up from the likely Cotchin/Riewoldt retirements. We will need that first round pick next year

Don’t think our system really works with a 3 tall set up, we only did it last year because of injury’s to Soldo and Nank and CCJ and Chol tended to rotate better forward than back like Soldo and Nank tend to do more so

In the previous years we only played with 2 talls so I don’t think it’s that big of an issue and actually better giving more space and leading lanes for Jack and Lynch to operate in
I think we lack a genuine mid sized forward though. Someone with some tricks and a strong marking threat in the air. That way you keep the oppos mid sized intercept defenders like Stewart, Sicily etc accountable. If you don't have that third marking threat, Jack and/or Lynch get double or even triple teamed. Caddy used to play that role but he couldn't really tackle and chase under our system. Would be good of we could get a 188-191cm mid who can also be a threat forward in the air and around goal.

Why should we let it go. I think his talents are wasted down back. Alex Rance was the best defender in the last 20 years, hoping that Balta will turn into the next Rance is very optimistic. So half Balta's time will be spent locking down a forward, with a bit of luck he will win his share of contests like Astbury or even Harris Andrews at best. Besides Rance name another attackiing weapon from the backline playing. I can think of none.

At CHF considered the most important position of the ground he has the full scope to use his assets creatively. Poswerful runner, very good in the air, great at ground level and can kick goals from 60 metres. There is a bit of Richo about him. He turns games when he plays ruck and can do things no other ruckman can do. He is a potential weapon that is learning the game, so backline has been good for him. Who knows what he can become.

Stack to me would be wasted up forward because he has the potential to be anything. Midfielder gun in waiting. If he is not fit enough just yet, then ease him into it, which may mean resting forward or playing the swingman like against the Hawks.

Let it go cause he has played forward at times and has been very average. Its the same talk of Dave when he was playing famously wearing the number 12 people on here wanted him to move forward and it just didnt happen.

I highlighted two sentances were you clearly contradict yourself. CHF is the most important part of the field and needs creativity and on the other hand you say Stack can play "anywhere" which would require "creativity". So by that logic Stack if he can play anywhere well then by your standards the best place he could play is CHF....

I think we need a forward that operates around the 50m to wing, the release kick it long play. Jack used to do it but that is not his game anymore. A mobile forward not like CCJ or Chol. Balta (or even Miller) for me he is not a liability when then the ball hits the ground.

Reckon Soldo might take a bit of work before he comes good, might not be an automatic early in the season. He has missed a big chunk of footy.

Stack could play anywhere, lets not take that too literally. I think you well know what I mean. Mid, back, small forward.

When Balta played forward he was in his first season, little bit different. Astbury and Balta are vastly different players, Balta is quick and athletic. He has turned games when he has played ruck, why not forward. We have no idea what Balta could become as a player, but his ceiling is pretty high compared to many of the AFL key forwards running around, and perhaps he is being wasted down back.

Maybe we plan on developing Parker into that role (similar to how he played at the Saints compared to that high half forward/ mid we used him as last year

Or even RCD resting forward when not in the guts

Pretty sure Brisbane will be looking to get out of the first round next year rather than further into it
Just Spit balling, we trade pick 7 and our future first to GWS for Pick 2 to get Callaghan. Then trade pick 15 for Brisbane's future first
2021: Callaghan, 26,27,28
2022: Bris 1st. North 2nd, our 2nd

Would be a dream to re draft Lids right now
Imagine him in this team now as an 18 year old prodigy playing that 3rd forward target role
He’d kick 40+

We also have Dusty who is more then handy as that mid sized target but get he’s not that marking threat. Plus I get the feeling he’ll be playing more time on ball next year with the way that midfields dominated us this year with him sitting forward

Correct. No chance they trade another F1 in.
I think our best chance of upgrading to pick two involves getting our hands on Brisbane’s first pick next year but I don’t really know how we swing it. Ideally they only want points for next year but I’m right it thinking at least one of the picks being traded has to be for this years draft before the puck swap can be approved?

Yes I took Dusty out of the equation mainly for those two reasons, he's not a distinct overhead marking threat and I assume he will be hungry for midfield time this year. It would be driving him nuts seeing us getting smacked out of the middle and around the ball.

Lids would have been ideal yes. I wonder if Goater might be the type who provides that point of difference.

Evening up the numbers would help as well.

I don’t really think it matters who’s up forward as we are getting held up handballing and then are making our forward entries high as **** to an outnumber. Compounded by the fact we cluster to stop the ball bouncing straight out and you have a situation where not even Plugger would get a kick.

What we are missing massively is good kicking and a really elite outside mid and a endurance machine on the wing.

Watching the GF the Melbourne wing absolutely torched MCCrae, he didn’t get a heap of the ball but watching it live he was by himself for most of the game blocking up the dogs ball movement and engaging a defender in transition. The dogs players were gassed plodding after him all afternoon and barely made it to any contests. Impressive to watch.

If a good wing drops to us I hope we consider it. K-Mac and Pickett are okay but I’d like to see someone put some pressure on them.
