Would love to trade up to pick 2 off GWS and take Callaghan the take Tom Green off their hands next year 😬

Also there’s a few mentions that Gold Coast were impressed by Mac Andrews interview and could pose a the big problem to GWS trading back and still taking Andrew.

Personally this is why I think the AFL should introduce the ability for teams to trade players they have selected on the night. That way GWS doesn't have to gamble with trading back in picks to get the player they want. They could go best available and then see where the Mac Andrew cards fall and approach the team that selects him and do a deal.

Cuts out some of the risk for clubs, maybe even gives them a bit more of an excuse for the ridiculous fact that the first round is on one night by itself.

Agreed, not sure why they don't allow this.
It's not like the kid had enough time to move states or anything

interesting call…

id be pretty stoked if both Bazzo and Knevitt were available at 26,27,28
…but picking Bazzo will depend on who we pick/ who is available at 7 & 15

if Gibcus is there at 7 …id be more than fine with that
Sheesh you would be over the moon if Bazzo and Knevitt got to our picks in the 20's.

Rather than Gibcus at 9 id be tempted to take Bazzo at 17 allowing us to get the best possible mid.

I hope it goes a bit like he has it with the choices available to us something along the lines of

9 Erasmus/Hobbs/Ward.
17 Goater/Draper/Johnson/Milera.
26 Bazzo
27 Knevitt
28 Bid on Windhager, and Fahey or look at Williams as a key fwd even Chesser.

Geez why we would want to trade away anymore picks has me scratching my head there is good talent available at every pick we have.

Anyone know much about Alastair Lord? he looked pretty good in the SA v WA game, is he a chance for our contingent of picks in the 20's

RCD run over your dog?
I just don’t rate him like others do. I hope I am wrong and he turns out an absolute star. However I stated that he is bog average and until he shows a lot more I’ll stick by my assessment of him. Go for it RCD and please make my statements look silly

there was talk of that happening a few years ago then it got put in the too hard basket by the afl for some reason

Well, you can't lose then. If he turns out to be a good player you'll get to benefit from him as a Tiger fan. And if he doesn't, you get to say I told you so. It's just like tipping against your own team really.

I'm just curious what it is exaclty you've seen from him to come to that conclusion... to my eye he's shown a ton of glimpses of his talent without showing any huge deficiencies in his game, maybe lacks a bit of defensive intensity at times which will hopefully improve with fitness, but he's not exactly failed at each hurdle for developing young (tall) mid so far in his career. Nice skills, powerful, wins clearances, good burst of speed etc... what's bog average about that?

With Chol and CCJ gone I think we will have to take at least one and probably two KPPs at this draft. Yes there's speculation that there's more talls in next year's draft but a year is a long time in football. Jack and Taz will be gone by the end of 2023 most likely, Lynch would be well into his 30s and also Grimes and it's at that point when young talls would be expected to step up into those positions. It's possible we trade in but the way we have brought Miller along makes me thing we like developing them ourselves. Why not with Rance, Astbury, Grimes etc to learn off during the dynasty.

It may even be two talls this year and two next year. Good talls, taken in the first or second round we'd want to be stepping up into the side at around age 20-22 so Gibcus, Amiss, JVR, Bazzo, Williams, Aleer must all be in the frame at some level.

I think we go with
2x mids
2x talls
1x Xfactor

That's if we don't trade up to try to guarantee Hobbs. Hobbs looks a Richmond type to me. Hard at it, inside mid with leadership ability would be very handy considering where we are at. I just can't see him still being there at 9.

I think the closer we get to draft night, the more significant trying to get Hobbs will be. If it proves impossible to basically guarantee getting him by trading up, I suspect plan B would be to target best XFactor - Rachele or best intercept key back Gibcus and change the strategy around but still go for 2,2&1.

Even then, those two could also be gone at 9.

As George Clooneys' character said in 'Oh Brother, where art thou' -

"Boys, we inna tight spot"!

He’s not as good as Clayton Oliver 👍

I'd be happy too forgo pick 7 this year to be honest. It seems its likely you could get the same result with a player in the teens as you would from pick 5 onwards.
If it happens it has to be to our advantage.
Freo would love 7 to go along with 6 & 8
W/coast would love to be that wedge.
Bris keen to offload their future 1st.
Carl pick 25 & future.Would give us 25/26/27/28.lol
Maybe from a “talent” perspective but even still that is debatable.
But the difference is with pick 7 over one in the teens is we get the choice to pick the player that suits us better from a pool of 15 players vs a pool of 5
It’s always better to have the earlier pick because it gives you a greater selection of players even if the talent is comparable

to many old heads will get emotional about that.

Can see Adelaide going for Rachele at 4 (6).
GWS going with Andrew, Gold Coast Gibcus, Freo Erasmus. Leaves Hawks as a question mark. Sounding like they have Ward high on their list.

Looking very likely two of Hobbs, ward or Callaghan will be there at 7.

this is the ideal sweep in my opinion
Callaghan/Hobbs/ward
Sinn/sonsie
Taylor
Williams/Sheldrick
Bazzo

Perhaps but our pick seems too be in the middle of nowhere should Hobbs & Ward are gone.Least we'll know by the time it gets too our pick we can act accordingly.
Imagine if there wasn't live trading.

Hobbs might last until our pick, Ward if still available I think Hawks will take and Callaghan will be taken by either giants, suns or crows.

We still have holes in our list, yes Hobbs/ward fill that immediate midfield hole and probably plan A but going best available isn’t a bad option either
The only two list spots that we have decent depth in are rucks and rebounding defenders

So using pick 7 on a highly rated key position player or even small/medium lockdown or intercept player wouldn’t be bad results

Which makes sense, and would be amazing. But Callaghan will not make it to us. He's a potential super star. But it is possible, if unlikely that both Ward and Hobbs could be there at 9. I'm hoping one is and we get that plug and play top end mid.
