We are being super critical of players about their kicking, pace and other; so many players criticised yet no reference of their deficiencies from experts ?

Experts? Who are these experts? Club recruiters are the experts, they assess players better than most, although not always.

We have absolutely no idea what our recruiters think of the top 25 odd and what order they rank them. Of course they interview them, but we don't know if for example they rank Ward higher than Goater for example, Gisbus higher than both. They keep their cards very close to their chests, in fact they probably send out some red herrings to disguise what they are really going to do.

So when posters or media 'experts' state we are into player A or B, we really have no idea. And Richmond recruiters in particular seem to have a slightly different view to most anyway and seem to draft very much for what a player is going to be 3 years down the track as opposed to what they are now.

What position do you think the club thinks Long is best suited for?
Mid who can take a mark and kick a goal
Long and ward played 3 games together before long got injured,,,together out of the middle they killed it ,,

Hmm i would not mind us trading out a future pick in the 50's 60's for a similar one this year.

If the consensus is we are going for another flag then just Tarrant for Astbury won't get the job done. Our better players are all a year older and not all will maintain the standard.

A big mature ready to go bull of a mid like Greg Clark would go a long way to helping out the midfield same goes for Bailey Rogers.

The other area where depth is lousy is kpd and kpf a mature swingman like Skinner and Schlensog would give us genuine cover. Another one who has been spoken about is Charlie Dean.

The logic is and it seems to be a consensus there are few KPP'S in the draft so why not nab a mature one with a late pick rather than wait for the rookie draft or mid season draft when there is every likely hood they are already taken.

Will say it again Ross RCD Dow Martyn imo have been underwhelming thats not a put down its a comment on what they have produced to date.

Our best inside mid is injury prone and misses heaps of games every year someone like Clark is just plain old common sense in my view.

We go into next yr with premiership plans and only have two genuine Key Forwards 33YR old Riewoldt and 29YO Lynch ffs if we are hunting a flag we need some cover here and we won't get that cover from a just drafted junior.

The same can be said for key defenders as well if Balta goes down again or Tarrant then its down to one gamer Miller who has also been a bit underwhelming to date.

We are either in a premiership hunt or we aren't. if we are we need some mature players in a few key areas other wise we will suffer big time if injuries hit us in these areas it will be even harder than last year

If its a flag and its depth we want in areas that have very little depth then A big mature mid and a few mature swingmen would be ideal.
As I am au fait with the WAFL players can someone tell me what would be the downside with using our final pick, even it's pick 28, on Greg Clark? He is a 193cm, 94kg midfielder that averages 27 disposals and over 7 tackles a game. Had 27 tackles over his 2 finals this year. The major issue I see is he is 24 but which midfielders do we have in that age range? What are his limitations and would he slot into our starting 22 immediately?

I reckon GC is a big chance... :thumbsu:

I have this feeling that Hobbs and Ward will both be gone and we will take Rachele.

Not sure how I'd love that pick at 7, feel like a pure mid is the way to go.

But I feel like our preferred (realistic) target is Hobbs
Agree... Prefer to wait until 15 and see if Wanganeen or Motlop are still available (unless Rachelle is rated as that much better, where perhaps he is if he is in the top 5 calculations).

Do not want Motlop, WA boy who is probably just okay, and we have enough just okay smalls. If we must take a small early if all the mids are gone, let it be Rachele, has some genuine talent by the looks of it. Want a mid but a genuine gun player would be great.

Edit: I should clarify, if we’re gonna grab a small then let it be Rachele if he’s available at 7 (9) and the mids we want are gone. Outside that pick I just want us grabbing midfielders. Don’t feel like we should be taking the chance on a small outside the real gun-pick range, probably just end up a wasted pick when we really need midfielders.

As good as Rachele may become I do worry about our height. Most of our mids (no I'm not counting RCD) are in the below 185cm category (Bolton, Prestia, Graham, Lambert, Cotchin). Makes us pretty undersized in the square against teams like Melbourne (Petracca and Oliver both about 187cm) or the Dogs (Macrae and Bont both above 190cm).

I know we're fast and this has been a key pillar of our turnover game, but I worry about that lack of size given that the stand rule has made the game more of a clearance contest.
RCD 193, Ross 187, Martyn 186, Dow looks to have grown to around that as well. We have young grunt, we need young class. Rachele would be a dream, the kid's a jet.

Rachele is a match winner. That's what top 10 picks are for.
I was previously not that keen on Rachele. I was thinking small forwards are a dime a dozen. A position I wouldn't normally use a valuable top 10 pick on. But if he could be moulded into a midfielder/forward then I would be happy to get him with our first pick.

Problem is there's no indication those first two have what it takes to become best 22 and the latter two it's too early to tell. Not sure there's much depth there and if we're adding <185cm kids then our future middle could look like Graham, Hobbs/Ward, Bolton with blokes like Baker rotating through. I personally do not think that makes us competitive. Size in the middle is important given the premium the new rules place on clearance work, and while being tall isn't the be all it certainly helps.

This was from an expert. One that works at the RFC in recruiting......It is also well known to most clubs.

There's no indication Erasmus has what it takes to become best 22. Johnson's in the frame for our first, he's 192.

The Advertiser is doing a live mock draft right now. They've just done a live swap with our pick 17 plus a later pick for Essendons 13 which we used on Josh Sinn. Haven't seen the earlier picks yet.

Edit: They had us taking Ben Hobbs, Josh Sinn, Zac Taylor, Rhett Bazzo and Brady Hough.

Fair call. I actually prefer mids at both our 1st two. Although 1st I think should be best available talent. I have no idea on the two smalls I mentioned, but saw some footage of Rachelle recently and thought we would be so much better with a mid at our 1st. How tall is he though. He looked Caleb Daniel size on what I saw.

Edit: ok.. not sure what was wrong the camera I was watching, he's listed at 180cm!

Here is the haul.... We'd be very happy with this.

Extremely happy if this was our outcome

If he turns into a Toby Greene then I'm Ok with that.

How come there isn’t as much hype for Sonsie now? All year was spoken of as a top 5 fancy and hasn’t done anything that has put anyone off from what I can gather. Had 20+ disposals, 2 goals and layed some big tackles in his VFL game for Box Hill. Said to be the most dual sided kick in the draft pool. Would be an absolute steal at our 15 pick
no, only at the start of the year was he spoken of as a top 5. definitely not the most dual sided kick in the comp and his range in the draft should be about late first round - mid second

I wouldnt be upset at all if we ended up with Rachele , Kid can football and oozes talent

if he was 6-7cm taller everybody would have him top 3 from available talent in the draft

I’m ok with it too provided we get Taranto next year
