Some Hawk's fans are very delusional when it comes to the draft. Some examples:
  • Tom Mitchell traded to Richmond for 2 first rounders.
  • Expect to get Finn Callaghan @7 because the interstate teams will overlook him because of the go home factor
  • Expect to trade a second round pick and future third to Brisbane for pick 14 (16)

For me one of the more memorable recent suggestions on the Hawk trade board is swapping one of their seconds and a future second for Brisbane’s 14 & 18 (doing them a favour apparently because they’ll need points next year :drunk: ).

Still my favourite at the moment has to be our 7 & 15 for their pick 5. The fact that we have two first rounders and they don’t has been a source of great emotional consternation and distress to them. It just ain’t right, so like almost daily for the last year they have come up with fiendish plan after fiendish plan to try and screw us out of them.

Just saying there hasn’t been a trade board more bizzare and frankly more entertaining.:p

Twomey stated that the Giants are willing to trade pick 13 for either a future 1st or a 2nd and a future 2nd.

Definitely would do that, we trade pick 28 and a future 2nd tied to us (we also have Norths's 2nd next year). So, we still have a 1st and an early 2nd rounder next year.

Damn, would do that in a heart beat. A 2nd rounder and a future 2nd rounder for pick 13. Means we would have 3 1st rounders and 2 2nd rounders this draft.

Seriously!!, this Green infatuation is worse than ever. He’s the new Luke Parker to Richmond rumour every year for the next 10 years! Imo, we will never have him on our list as he’s a Sydney lad who is very happy where he is. And besides, GWS won’t let him go
I don't like your tone.

agree. It’s why we should be focusing on Taranto

What nonsense !!!! If he had any love for tradition and his family name then he wouldnt even bother signing his next contract IMO. If he stays at GWS then he is truely cold hearted and shows no empathy what so ever. His Grandfather must be really disappointed.

Sorry Beema, just being honest Mate
Unlikely honesty, or even logical argument, is going to change things in here regarding Green. He could have played 300 games for GWS and just signed on for another 2 years and posters on here will be suggesting trades for next season because 'he's coming'!

Might as well get prepared!

If GWS #13 is available and any of Ward, Gibcus or Johnson are available at that pick then I am ok with handing over North Melb future 2nd and any of our seconds this year.

If we manage to grab Hobbs @7, Ward @13, Sinn @ 15 then we potentially set the midfield up for another decade. All three compliment each other’s styles and would be a massive get for the club

I like the optimism but not sure there’s even a snowflakes chance in hell Ward gets past the top-12.

I've purposely avoided these draft threads for the last few weeks because I reckon just about everything that needed to be said about our needs and ambitions was said in the days just after the trade period.

However, as it draws very near, what we need to remember when contemplating our excellent draft hand this year, the words that have emanated from our recruiters, and our our club's requirements for 2022 and beyond, is that we don't really need to trade any picks prior to draft night so as to move up the draft order.

The ownership of three consecutive picks #26, #27 and #28 is a list manager's dream, and when held and deployed as a whole is worth far greater than the sum of it's three individual parts. Three picks in a row so early on Night 2 allows our list development team to carefully curate our selections accordingly to list needs. With these three picks, there is no need to second guess what upcoming clubs are intending - we will be able to handpick three young players based on what we need and upon who we've already taken at #7 and #15. No fear of teams with picks sandwiched in between our three 2nd rounders taking, say, the best tall remaining if we've just taken best available with the previous pick, or vice versa. We get to balance our list without any outside interference. It's a gold-embossed opportunity.

The most likely live trade we could do might occur if we totally fill our boots with #7, #15, #26 and #27 including perhaps a couple of sliders, and have a team like Port, Essendon etc knocking down our door as they spotted an unexpected gem still available for our #28, and want to hand over a 2022 2nd and 3rd rounder for the privilege.

But random trades like handing over our #15 and #26 for someone's #11-13 and #50 (for instance) are counterproductive, unless an absolute Top 10 slider appeared at #11-13.
