I watched the AFL Academy v Geelong VFL game. He got one touch for the game and didn't display any appetite for a contest. No thanks, better options at 17 this year.
Just confirming you don’t want Sonsie based on one VFL game you seen him play this year?

Anyway it’s easy hanging shit on players without also putting your own viewpoint on the line for others to do the same

Pick 7 ward/Johnson/Hobbs/amiss
Pick 17 Erasmus/jvr/goater/Sinn/sonsie/butler

Rest of our picks 3 of
Bazzo/Chesser/Zac Taylor/Macdonald/Williams/Sheldrick/Knevitt/long

Keeping in mind this is the strategy that has since gifted us players like C Ellis, Rioli (paid off well enough but still), Higgins… get real Clarke.

Gee, hard marking for Clarke. Firstly. Ellis was a Francis Jackson pick.

Rioli is a three time premiership player. Also is Broad who was selected in that draft.

Shai Bolton and Jack Graham both two time premiership players.

Higgins was the great pick. No one could have foreseen the brain issues and him wanting to leave in two years time.

Ditto Coleman-Jones.

Noah Balta is a premiership player.

Liam Baker is a two time premiership player.

2018, 2019 and 2020 way too early to make a call. But certainly think there’s some talent in there.

We’ve won three premierships in five years with taking the best guy we’ve had available.

Not sure what else can be expected?

Is there a more appropriate strategy that we should’ve employed?

I don't want him because he is small, slow and soft. The VFL game amongst others confirms it.

I’m not a fan of Sonsie personally either. But he isn’t small, nor slow, nor soft.

I’d be gobsmacked if GCS don’t select Gibcus at 3. They have a glaring need for a KPD. Budarick is coming off an ACL, and Homsch retired
Lol what? Budarick is like 5'8, played juniors as a mid and now a rebounding half back.

While I agree with you that they lack depth in KPD's, Budarick has nothing to do with it.

That's two phantoms with us taking the Soligo kid. I wonder if his player agent is leaking that we plan to take him.

Edit- apparently he played a game for our VFL team this year?

Higgins was a very decent pick at #17. He finished 4th in the Rising Star in his debut season, with two of the blokes above him being 2nd year players, as well as an almost-premiership-winning Stephenson. Then the brain issue took him out - totally unforeseeable from a recruiters pov.

Rioli at #15 was a great selection too - an integral member of the 2017 & 2019 premiership teams. Had a very ordinary GF in 2020 but he'd done more than enough in the lead up to earn his third medallion. Respect.

Higgins was a fail when you see the quality of players taken directly after him.

Oscar Allen, Tim Kelly, Sam Taylor, Fritsch, Liam Ryan, Starcevich and even Powell. Likewise CCJ was not at that level.

Clarke had a mare and wouldn't want to repeat that.
