Anyone know anything about Charlie Dean?
I'm starting to hear his name mentioned (not linked to Richmond) as a KPD.
Heard it suggested he was overlooked in his draft year because he was thrown forward and didn't perform too well there but always looked good down back?

Winner of the prestigious Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal this year, Charlie Dean is one of the top mature-age prospects available. In his debut VFL season, the Sandringham Dragons graduate impressed down back for Williamstown with his work rate, astute reading of the play, and intercept marking ability. Having shown promise but ultimately been overlooked in his top-age season, Dean now seems primed for a crack at the top level with a couple more years under his belt.

While he found a home down back in 2021, the breakout performer is capable of playing at both ends of the ground and is the type of hard-working prospect who is always keen to improve his game. Character is an intangible the 20-year-old prides himself on and in essentially his second full tilt at being drafted, Dean has shown plenty of it. With key position prospects somewhat at a premium and intercept defenders in vogue, he may well attract suitors in the latter stages of the draft.

STRENGTHS:

+ Marking
+ Reading the play
+ Versatility
+ Work rate

IMPROVEMENTS:

- Agility
- Consistency

Cool - I'd like to see the evidence to support that one of his strengths is contested possessions. I see it as his major weakness as do a few of the clubs.
I didn’t list contested possessions as a strength per say. I don’t have access to contested stats but id hazard to guess he would have around 10CP a game most games which is considered above average at the next level. I’ve heard clubs liken him to Cotchin and if his contested game was that bad he wouldn’t be getting those comparisons.

He wins most of his touches in close at stoppages and is rarely the receiver which is actually my issue with him as he doesn’t work hard enough on the outside to be a real high volume ball winner.

Knightmare has us with Hobbs, JVR, Bazzo, Taylor and Clarke.

Bids on Fahey and Owens matched.

Can I say I know SFA about any draft targets . But what I do know is I’m off the charts pumped to know we will get a few future Tiger champions out of this draft .

Be it Hobbs or Ward or Gibcus Sinn Sondir Howe or anyone else it’ll be great to see them pushing fir a gig at senior level .

Happy days ahead !

While you're here eDPS thoughts?
He has barely been able to play forward to get a good read but most talls can play either end fairly well if given the opportunity but personally I feel his best suited down back but hey I thought the same of Ben King and Aaron Naughton 🤷‍♂️

As an expert on commentating on 5 minute highlights clips, he looks a tad slow. But if anyone has actually 'seen him play' and can say otherwise, I might be willing to change my mind. After all, most of us are 5 minute experts. Next.

Please tell me I just read incorrectly and the draft isn't done over two nights again....

Just confirming you don’t want Sonsie based on one VFL game you seen him play this year?
No different to 99% of us saying we want players after watching a 3 minute YouTube video

No nothing about him, but reading that, I get Garth vibes.

Can Gibcus reach the levels of Naughton?

Was going to intrude on the Bombers board but since you are here already, If Hobbs really does slip to 13 like Twomey has predicted, do you think the Bombers would still be looking to split 13?

I was hoping for either Hobbs/Ward or Gibcus at 9, would be ecstatic if we could get both.

How exactly? Many posters on here only decided they liked Sonsie after they found out he was a Tigers supporter.
I know it’s quite the glass half full/half empty argument, but I can understand people stating they want particular players despite limited/no actual watching viewing the player. Just because fans/posters are hopeful or wanting particular players doesn’t mean they’re going to become a superstar or a good pick.

Where as, when people are completely ruling out a player and not being willing to give an 18yo a chance before they’ve been drafted I don’t think is fair and quite different to wanting or hoping for a player to come in.
