Nothing about the 'depth' midfielders illustrates that we should not be taking 3+ mids from our picks and best available for the rest. Ross has been a bit part player, RCD has not shown signs he can be better than a B grade workhorse, Dow and Martyn too early to tell but one is a worry with disposal and the other looked significantly off the pace in his debut. Those 'depth' players are not going to sustain a level that Cotchin, Prestia, Edwards et al were able to achieve. That is why it is critical to bring in quality kids now to give them a year of protection and development.

Soldo won't solve our clearance issues. Having a more competitive ruck helps, but even in the games Nankervis played, it is the blokes listed as 'depth' that largely started and gave up huge clearance differentials along with some of the older brigade being unable to get back to previous standards.

In my opinion the best developing mids we have for the 3+ year horizon are Baker and Bolton. I am not sure either is going to be capable of playing full games there without rotating onto a flank which means the side needs blokes that can get first use of the pill and deliver it.

While arguably the side needs to turn its mind to key forwards and backs, Lynch still has plenty of footy left in him, Balta is a 10 year lock and it is not as much of a pressing need to remain competitive in the now. Sides have also shown that you can be competitive for a flag with a great midfield and average KPP stocks (see Dogs defenders and forwards bar Naughton, Collingwood was hugely competitive for the 2018-20 period with no forward line, we won 2017 with a fleet of smalls etc).

Tigers need midfielders is a common theme but what happens to Dow. Ross. Stack. Rcd. Bolton. Graham. Baker. (24 and under group) in the short and long term?

My final thoughts:
I would love in this order:
1. Hobbs/Ward
2. Gibcus
3. Johnson/Sinn

If we end up with Gibcus, then I will back the club in. I would hope we get a good mid with pick 17. Whatever we do, I hope we don't land Amiss. Have a very strong feeling he will be a flop.

Can ward or Hobbs play wing?

They sound pretty inside.

Andrew falling to richmond pick developing on a wing sounds alright

Thanks Jerry

One of my concerns if we go Hobbs, Sonsie is height - we already have a short midfield group - would love a bit of height added to the midfield mix.
We won three flags with Dusty our tallest mid at 187. We have RCD (193), Ross (187) and Martyn (186). What we need is the best talent.

I hope we don't trade 15 away unless our target really is Sonsie and we still get him.

Would prefer us to be trading up...
Not too keen on this either.

It really only could be three clubs we have been speaking to about this.

Something along the lines of…

Geelong- their future first and 30 for 15.

Carlton-
Future first, Pick 25 for 15 and 28

Hawthorn- 2 seconds in the 20s for 15. We would need to trade some existing picks in the 20s out to do this.

I'd be happy trading pick 15 for a future first. Next year get a high end KP or 2.

I'll back the club in.

Funny I want to watch every pick. But know that is a waste of time and I should do something else, then come back and see what our haul is. Which is what I'll do. Force myself to do some yoga and get the benefit of that, then see what we've done.

Absolutely not. Hitting refresh for the epic melts as the picks are announced is one of the truly magical things anyone can experience.

And then about half an hour after the dust settles... it just gets boring knowing it will be 3 years until we get to see how it panned out.

There'll be a few melts which will be worth the price of admission though!

Doing yoga thinking about Mac Andrew

Visit for the picks. Stay for the melts.

But you can read the melts after. Not quite real time, but still absolutely hilarious.
