For those who aren’t quite in a position to do a full phantom draft, but who would still like to have a go at predicting the draft, please use this thread to post your predictions :)

The current draft order is available in the pinned thread, here:

In accordance with board rules, phantom drafts which do not fulfil the requirements of a full first round using the current draft order (at time of posting), and preferably with a bit of explanation and willingness to explain your decisions, may also be merged into this thread.

Following the Trade Period, the current order for the first round of the draft is:

  1. North Melbourne
  2. GWS Giants
  3. Gold Coast Suns
  4. Adelaide
  5. Hawthorn
  6. Fremantle
  7. Richmond
  8. Fremantle
  9. St Kilda
  10. West Coast Eagles
  11. Essendon
  12. Port Adelaide
  13. GWS Giants
  14. Brisbane Lions
  15. Richmond
  16. Sydney Swans
  17. Melbourne
  18. Brisbane Lions

There’s no way Freo select Knevitt if JVR is still on the table.
my first round prediction. I think GWS will trade down to 3. Gold Coast won’t bid on any father/son.
GWS will then bid on Darcy first , then Daicos, then pick their man .

1. North Melbourne - Jason Horne-Francis
2. Gold Coast - Finn Callaghan (trade with GWS , GWS gets a future pick)
3. Western Bulldogs - Sam Darcy
4. Collingwood - Nick Daicos
5. GWS- Gibcus
6. Richmond - Hobbs (trade with crows)
7. Hawthorn- Ward
8. Fremantle- Amiss
9. Adelaide - Sinn
10. Fremantle - Johnson
11. St kilda - Rachele
12. West Coast - Erasmus
13. Essendon - Nasiah Wanganeen
14. Port Adelaide - Goater
15. GWS - Mac Andrew
16. Brisbane - chesser
17. Richmond - Wilmot
18. Sydney - Sonsie
19. Melbourne- Draper
20. Brisbane - Howes
Think Mac Andrew slips to far and they are too favourite-heavy. Clubs throw curveballs, which this seems a bit ideal. St Kilda I'm expecting to shuffle around and Richmond needs a midfielder more than a defender. Arlo Draper at 19 for Melbourne would be an absolute steal.

Gold Coast would bid on Daicos out of blind hope Collingwood decided against matching. GWS have also said they're unlikely to trade Pick 2, which makes sense as they plan on taking the minimum three selections, one being a high draft pick.

All signs point to Adelaide wanting more picks in the first rounder, not fewer so I find it unlikely Richmond trade.

If Essendon had their eye on Wanganeen in the first round, they'd likely nominate him as F/S. Expect Wanganeen to be a late pick.

Wanganeen's father is Terry Milera , Gavin is his uncle on his mother's side.

And Nasiah will be picked in the 1st round btw.

So who do you have Port taking?
We will go best available migfielder- Ward, Hobbs, Erasmus, Wanganeen-Milera, Johnson, Goater or Sonsie. If available Sinn might be too good to pass up. As of a week ago we hadn’t even spoken to Draper.

So, in this mock draft, Sinn, Hobbs or Sonsie are available. Hobbs would be a surprise to slide that far, very inside - is he who Port would prefer? You've got a bunch of guys with class on the outside. Or do you reinforce the outside class with SInn, or take the multi-positional Goater?

I am interested, as obviously you're a spot ahead of GWS, and hence you may - depending on the skillset you're looking for - impact our choice.

With Wines, Drew , SPP, we are covered for inside mids, probably need that explosive mid who can clear the stoppage with speed. Someone in the mould of Merrett, hence why we were so keen on him this year. I was keen on Sonsie, but there seems to be question marks on him, hence should we go so early, Sinn has been linked, but can he go into the midfield, we already have a stack of half backers lining up already. Lots of fans for Goater, who appears to have the most upside, but has lots of work to do in development and skills.

However if Ward slides he would be hard to say no to, but seems to be some talk that he is being difficult in regards to leaving Vic, hence a flight risk.

Out of Hobbs, Sinn, Sonsie- I’d take Hobbs but our recruiters have shown a tendency to place a lot of store in a player‘s underage years- Rozee, Georgiades are the most recent examples of this. Sinn and Sonsie will, therefore, be very much in the phrame with our first.

I disagree with ASE to some extent- Wines is 28, Drew is a good but not great inside mid, SPP seems to have stalled. Yes, we need burst factor but we also need a genuine inside mid- we have plenty of flankers who MAY transition inside already -Rozee, Butters, Jones, Houston, Duursma with Jase Burgoyne to be added.
