Twomey mentioned GWS have put their pick 13 on the table for a future first round pick.

Would basically mean moving our 2023 first round pick in to this year’s draft.

Did he mention whether it would have to be a future first plus something from this year? If we could have 3 picks in the top 20 that'd be something to get excited about.
If it's a draft night trade then 41 could actually be useful for them matching points.

Hey Knightmare, thanks for stopping by. I know you're big on identifying mature age talent who could make it at the top level. Section 5 and I were discussing Jack Hayes before. What are your thoughts on his ability to make it as a utility?

Hayes actually made it into my top-75 extended power rankings (see last night's YouTube clip).

Hayes has been good for a number of years now in the SANFL.

I don't see why he can't be something like a Josh Corbett or Tim O'Brien in an AFL context as that undersized strong contested marking tall with some athleticism. He could contend with McStay for a spot as someone I regard as being of comparable quality.

I'm not expecting him to get drafted necessarily, so he's one you could easily snag as a rookie, and as a rookie he'd be one of those plug and play types where he may not be best-22, but he has the game to play at the level if you have a role that needs filling. And as that tall utility, I think even if he's not my most preferred option, he's one worth discussing.

As a defender maybe if we don't take a KPP in the draft, I'd be surprised if he's playing in the forward line in the reserves.

Funnily enough you say that, I would be pretty disappointed if we chose Butler with any of our two first rounders. Now don't get me wrong in saying that 2 minutes doesn't define a player's ability, but after watching the AFL draft highlights package of him, I personally don't see him that much of a quality player for us in the future at AFL level (happy to eat my hat in 5-10 years if he is tearing up the competition).

As well as that, but I'm quite surprised that everyone has been linking us with Wilmot these past couple of days over Chesser like I know that Sinn would be the best outcome for us, as that rebounding half-back with Pick 14 (16), but knowing he most likely won't be around at our first pick (anything is possible however), it amazes me everyone is linking us to drafting Wilmot now over Chesser as again like Butler, I don't think he would be much of a player for us in the long-term future of the club (again happy to eat my hat in 5-10 years time if he is tearing up the competition).

Unless our draft strategy has now changed massively and we are just focusing on finding the "best possible talent" in the distant future and not looking at off-field personality & traits/etc & go-home factor of players (highly unlikely but still), I would of thought someone like Chesser's calibre would have be our bread & butter pick at 14 (16) right, front & centre, as he can play that rebounding defending role well (with good speed & kicking skills), can spend quality minutes in the wing & midfield, has a great personality with excellent leadership & character skills (on-field/off-field), raised up in country Victoria (goes to boarding school in Metro Victoria) and plays for the same club and has connections to Will Ashcroft as well from the Sandringham Dragons.

We'll wait and see what happens on Wednesday night, in relation to who we choose with our two first rounders, but I would be quite disappointed IMO if we really chose Wilmot & Butler with those two picks in the first round, especially given the talent on-hand this year in the first round.

How often does a player that's this heavily projected to a club in the mid-teens actually go there? At the end of the day it's just a heap of different media outlets probably working off each other to make guesses, I doubt any club outside the top 5 would feel comfortable telling anyone who they're targeting.

I view him as a safe pick, high floor low ceiling type player. He’ll be best 22 in a couple of years and give us two good lockdown defenders.

Does sort of make both Answerth and Madden somewhat redundant as defenders.

He does offer good run out of defence, but he doesn’t possess the kick or Sinn or Chesser. But he’s a genuine defender from the get go, while Sinn and Chesser really need to work on that side of their game.

I get what you're saying and agree with most of it but I'd be pretty happy with Butler at 20, has a bit of Zac Bailey/Zorko about him to me.
