I like the idea of someone like Van Rooyen at our pick, not the exact player as I've never seen him play, but a KPP player that could potentially play at either end.

Van Rooyen himself had glandular fever which means he may be a few months behind in terms of development meaning greater potential scope.
Yep I'm on the JVR train as well. I liked an early/ preseason comment I read about him having an ability to lead all day/ excellent tank. Just sounds like a very well rounded athlete and I like his size at 194. Could become a very useful player as a utility type as a mid-range outcome.

FWIW I understand Triffet was BOG for Morningside on the weekend in the QAFL semi. He is someone who did improve over the year for us. He is a solid inside mid type who accumulates a lot of the ball. Skills are solid but unspectacular. Not out of the question that if a spot is there we might take him especially if he has continued to develop.

Fan of Triffet. Done some really nice things when I’ve watched him.

Triffet looked great earlier in the year. Looked maybe effected by a wrist or hand injury in the middle of the year. Reminds me of Josh Kennedy

Doubt he has what it takes at AFL level. Would be great to keep him in our reserves team for another year and see how it goes.

Jaspa Fletcher

Fletcher has somewhat a double-link to the club, being not only an academy member but also a father-son prospect, with his father Adrian playing 107 games for the Brisbane Bears/Lions. Fletcher looms as one of the top Northern State talents heading into 2022, with his speed and class by foot two standout attributes in his game. Fletcher is also extremely versatile, able to fill a role up either end, on a wing or right in the thick of things in the engine room, giving whichever team he plays for a lot of options.

+ a lad named Will Ashcroft.

Will Ashcroft, whilst not an academy prospect, is tied to the club via father-son rules as the son of Marcus. He looks an early top five contender and is currently plying his trade for the Sandringham Dragons at NAB League level.

Makes me start to think we’re going to need a few more points next year if we end up trading our future first. Also confirms to me we should really look at one of the talls from WA this year along with a taller mid as both Ashcroft and Fletcher are low to mid 180cm’s.

Yer I'm starting to think the same thing, Goater and JVR please.

Yeah it is one of the reasons I have not been keen to trade away our first for next year at this stage. I would prefer to wait to see how many points we are going to need before we do anything.
Especially as it probably won't be until next year that we know for sure whether Ashcroft will be nominating us. Not a great outcome if we trade it out and then find we could have used it.

The club would have a very good idea already I imagine. The world has come a long way since guys getting a call a few weeks before the draft. The club usually starts interacting with our father/son prospects when they enter their teens.

Will be interesting to see how Collingwood scrounge up the points they need for Daicos this year, and how much it'll cost them.

It's a hard one, saving our first is probably the smart thing to do but I really like what we could do with 3 firsts this year.

Still torn on Goater vs Johnson and JVR vs Bazzo. One of the talls should almost certainly be available at our last first rounder which is nice. Would still love to find a way to bring in a Wanganeen-Milera or Chesser as well.

I don't mind holding on to our first round pick in general to avoid the Collingwood scenario - even if we don't need points, someone will offer us a first round pick for the following year for it and we can DEATH RIDE AGAIN!

interesting what North do Horne-Francis, Darcy and Diacos top 3
if North pick the other two to stuff up dogs pies
or just go straight to the #1

I suspect they bid on both. I also think there are advantages of taking the pressure off your first pick by bidding on a linked player like Daicos or JUH. I feel like JUH had a lot more pressure on him this year than Thilthorpe (part of that being the Victorian media).

“Roos head of football Brady Rawlings tells me tonight Daicos and Darcy look fantastic players and you have to bid on these father-son kids otherwise you compromise your draft integrity. In his words, you could call out a father-son’s name and that pick might not get matched, so you cannot baulk at bidding on those players. “

More-so pertaining to next year but when do we find out if Ashcroft will actually nominate as a father-son?

Hope we don't have another Marc Murphy on the cards.

What are the chances of Goater being available at pick 14?
Lots of phantom drafts and power rankings around, from memory I've seen him rated anywhere from 7-9 to low 20s, so I'd say a little better odds of getting him at 14(16) than briz's rating as "slim".

Cal Twomey has him rated at 17 in his latest rankings.

I doubt us as fans will find out till later next season but if we were to trade our future first I think that would be a pretty good indicator as the club would have to feel pretty confident about it happening. I would also assume Will had spent a large part of his childhood in QLD with his dad having a role at both QLD clubs for a long time which could help.

I hope both North and GWS does
Get rid of your first pick and hope the #1 slips through for small points.
Bad luck
