I am reminded by the folly of relying on highlight clips (i am guilty of this - not accusing the draft watchers) after stumbling upon Tom Joyce's highlight clips from his draft year. Looks a gun I reckon. One touch. Good skills. Decent pace even. Looks like a quality midfielder. Never even got to play 1 game!

Be interested to see if either of our first two picks are likely to play first year. Given 2 first rounders, albeit late, hope at least 1 plays a chunk of games. We haven't had a player burst onto the scene for a long time! Rayner probably the last one who showed signs straight away.

I’m pretty sure Joyce didn’t play in his draft year. Had surgery preseason on his hips and didn’t play.

He just had a lot of bad injury luck with us. I’m pretty sure it was either Conole or Noble who mentioned after the draft in 2018, that Joyce was a risk/reward pick, due to potential for ongoing problems with his hips. If he overcame the issue, he could be a player.

I recall he was regarded as a possible late first round or early second round talent, based off his underage year.

In Knevitts highlights it only really showed decent marking. Could he be a better KPF/3rd tall prospect than JVR? Maybe similar to Darling?

Didn't he have a game where he had almost 40 disposals? With his frame and running ability you play as a big bodied mid. Waste elsewhere imo.

One who has got better with each game, Knevitt had a real breakout performance – though his prior ones had been ultra-impressive and eye-catching in their own right – putting up a stunning 36 disposals, 10 marks, eight inside 50s and booting a goal during the Falcons’ big win over Bendigo Pioneers. He has collected more than 20 disposals in seven of his nine games this season, with his past three being 27, 28 and 36 disposals.

The fact that Matt Rosa exists doesn't really support the idea that Mitch Knevitt gets his possessions easily or that tall wingers that get easy possessions are common. Paparone wasn't recruited as a winger either. We badly wanted Nic Haynes and I expect we drafted Paparone expecting he could potentially produce a similar capability.

Big frame and running ability is J Berry for us, I just really don't see it with Knevitt though and I'm not even sure I'd take him with our 3rd pick.

I love J Berry and think he has a great future so maybe I'm biased. Knevitt will be a fine player.

I think I’d prefer Goater, Johnson and Sinn in that order for a our first pick. Johnson will go to eagles I think. One of Sinn or Goater should get through hopefully. Doesn’t sound like many rate Brown on here. I like him at 18. His highlights show he can be that intercept player and he has the athletic attributes/ versatility to play multiple roles.

NWM, Sinn or Chesser are my hopes for first preference though admittedly first choice is probably out of reach.

Personally I am much more worried about the quality of his skills than whether he can find the ball in a contest. On that side of the coin I think he should be fine.

What's your take on his athleticism? I know he tested well but I don't think he show's enough of it during games.

On the other hand, none of the very best inside midfielders don't have an at least very good capability to win their own ball. - and people can go through the names themselves at home - be it Petracca/Bont/Oliver/Danger/Dusty/Fyfe/Ablett/Pendlebury/Mitchell/Selwood/Judd. It doesn't matter the generation or the name.

I look at mids as needing that contested component as the non-negotiable, and I'd be looking for them to have another weapon on top of that. And I'd be flexible in whatever the weapon happens to be.

Knevitt isn't just a contested bruiser. He's a really good mover at that height, very strong and stands up through tackles. He can take a contested grab and push forward. And while I'd agree his work by foot isn't good, what he does by hand is very good.

His rate of improvement is encouraging, with his last month or so before the lockdowns very good.

I wouldn't necessarily spend a top-10 pick on Knevitt, but I could justify taking the chance on him inside the top-20. He's in the suitable for selection camp at Brisbane's picks and one I'd have shortlisted.

When you have the time, I’m interested if you could compare Knevitt and Goater, as I know you’re not as high on Goater as others.
