I don’t believe he’s viewed as a forward. He’s a smaller balanced mid, but hasn’t shown much this year due to injury. He should have as much attention as Daicos and Ward.

My guess is he’s one Twomey hasn’t heard about from club recruiters, possibly because a number of clubs have genuine interest and are keeping it on the down low.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sonsie’s range be from Port Adelaide at 12 to Hawthorn at 24.

He is a mid who can actually go forward and be effective which I think we could use. Bailey can do it but most of the other young mids are not really much chop forward of centre. Rayner is a forward who we want to play more mid and having another guy he can swap with I think would be good.

I see him as likely to start his career as a forward at AFL level and provide cover for the small forwards. That is a pretty common way of introducing mids into the teams and he can probably do the job better than most.

I agree though that going forward I would project him to be a predominantly a midfielder.

Pretty much how I see Sonsie, but I was wondering last night if he has the capacity to play wing.

I would still like some height but Banks I think would be a great pick if he was there.
Fair chance Alleer and Dean are both off the board by our third selection. Would you look at a KPP there, that’s an outside chance at best, to make it at AFL level?

I’d rather consider a hbf’er that has more chance to make, even as a role player.

Go in to the season with Payne as our KPD depth, and Lester as our third tall depth. Fill out our VFL side with mature KPP top ups (if there’s any in the QAFL that are willing to play for us).

For half the year we will have Hipwood out and Daniher with a history of injuries. After those two we have no talls who have actually kicked a decent amount of goals at any level. We are in the window and I would really like a bit of forward depth and using a pick in the 40s for insurance I think is a very good idea.

At the back I think we are thin but do have some cover as mentioned. McStay can also cover at the back in an emergency.

Matthew Hammelmann would be a good KPF depth option.

Key forward depth probably more valuable as we can always switch McStay down back but I'm not sure a forward line of McStay, Fort and Hammelmann would be much more potent than a forward line without Hammelmann

My only argument is that we need a KPD more than a KPF, apart from Andrews, Adams and Payne we won't have another genuine key defender on the list and all three of those guys might be best 22 leaving no back up in the reserves. Up forwards we will still have Fort, Fullarton, Smith and Lane all playing key position forward at times in the reserves. I get your point that none of them are goal kickers but we have so many guys that can kick goals in the best 22 that anyone coming into the team would just be expected to play a role, bring the ball to ground and pressure.

Rayner could be someone who can go into that forward line and play a role as well. We might look a bit small but we do have some options.

I like the idea of Andrews and Payne playing a role in the forward line as a break the glass, so I prefer having defender depth which can be called upon if needed.

So who would you be looking at in the draft?

Is an 18 year old forward going to provide better depth than Fullerton?

We'll play 3 of Andrews, Adams, Gardiner, Payne and Lester down back and 4 of McInerney, Daniher, Hipwood, McStay, Fort and Fullarton in the ruck and forward

Also could at a pinch switch Andrews, Adams or Payne forward or McStay down back

We'll be in trouble if 3 from either group are injured at one time but I don't think we need to recruit just because of that

You'd rather play some mature age recruit in the backline?
If injuries hit I believe we can cover a key forward without making switches to the rest of the team, I don't believe we can cover a key defender as easily, this isn't just for next season but it's for the future as well, we don't have any young key defenders coming through other than Payne.

Quick go at the 2022 round 1 reserves team (no draftees, fit list apart from Hippy)

B: Uosis Payne Answerth
HB: Michael Lester Madden
C: Prior CEY Sharp
HF: BColeman Fullarton McFadyen
F: TBerry HSmith Cockatoo
Ruck: Lane Matho ESmith

Matthew Hammelmann would be a good KPF depth option.
Pointed out on the draft board that Hammelmann didn't nominate for the draft, neither did Schlensog. That takes them out of next seasons mid season draft as well, if I understand the rules correctly (which is 50/50 at best).

Probably reflects why he hadn't been taken in previous drafts. Doesn't want it enough
