Analysis 2021 draft thread

Pointed out on the draft board that Hammelmann didn't nominate for the draft, neither did Schlensog. That takes them out of next seasons mid season draft as well, if I understand the rules correctly (which is 50/50 at best).

From memory they do not need to nominate. Like you I could be wrong but that was my understanding.

Bailey was rumoured to us, as a long shot option. Starcevich wasn't rumoured to us.

But there's a Lions fan on twitter who called both selections, but I don't know if he's on here.

Important to remember Goater himself is a half back option too. I doubt he comes in and plays midfield immediately.

Bailey was a bolter in his draft year, but I think Cal Twomey had him going to us in his last minute phantom draft, albeit at pick 18.

We were rumoured to be in to Allen in the weeks leading up to the draft, but that interest died off significantly over last fortnight before the draft.

I believe if you're drafting Goater, you're drafting him for his long term potential to be a damaging midfielder. However, I believe he can also be a good kick off halfback with a little work on his kicking. I'm not suggesting Dan Rich level, but I believe he could provide a similar level of kicking that Starcevich provides. It's noticeable that our younger players don't take that risky kick too often, and that they are following instructions laid out by the coaching staff.

I agree. My point was that in the short term he's probably more of a half-back, with the potential to become a gun midfielder in time.

They can't any more though - the second DFA period finished on Monday.

Think I was alone at the time but I had him top 20 if not top 15 in his draft year, I had some shit calls in my early days of draft coverage but I’m proud of my Starcevich call

Twomey mentioned that it’s very hard to get intel now because of live trading.

Mentioned that his first three tiers go top 4, then next 8, then another 7 or 8 players.

Twomey tried unsuccessfully not to laugh out loud when Dom asked him of the possibility of Sinn falling to the Lions first pick.
