As opposed to what the plethora of spud midfielders every year? There are very few decent rucks around, even at state league. Its why spuds like Keegan Brooksby keep getting drafted

In this highlight package Johnson looks like a cross between Pendlebury and Drew.
I am happy with wanganeen. No point having all these big forwards when our current list is incapable of hitting them up. We need some clean users of the ball in the front half.Interesting. Would've though pure mid or a tall.
Whilst I like wanganeen milera and think he is a fantastic kick, I don’t think drafting both him and Burgoyne in the same draft is balanced enough. They are too similar. We need a proper mid, or tall.I am happy with wanganeen. No point having all these big forwards when our current list is incapable of hitting them up. Think Hawks may pick him up @ 5 if Callaghan gone as expected.![]()
VFL Showreel, R4: Tyler Sonsie proves the real deal on debut
Highly-rated youngster and potential top five draft pick Tyler Sonsie heavily impressed on debut for the Box Hill Hawks with 21 touches and two great goalswww.afl.com.au
Sonsie on debut in VFL
He is probably the one I am hoping slides to our first pick the most.Think Hawks may pick him up @ 5 if Callaghan gone as expected.
His highlights look awesome.
REH, I’m absolutely on the keep drafting and developing rucks bandwagon. I think we should always be looking for decent prospects that we can add with late or rookie picks. The rookie draft and late draft should always be used to target rucks and key defenders as often as possible. So you have seen every single ruckman around Oz, in all leagues play every single minute of 2020 and 2021 and your conclusion is there is nobody out there worth having as insurance for a year or two. I call that BS.
That insurance isn't about playing a whole season in the A grade. its out plugging gap for maybe up to a handful of games. Its about having a decent ruck in the magpies for our young mids to continue their development, its also about practice. You play as you practice, so if you have a variety of rucks rather than 2 blokes always competing against each other, you have better practice sessions.
If we have 17 major injuries again this year there is no guarantee who does and doesn't get injured. Should always have 4 rucks on the list in a squad off 40+.
A kid worth trying to develop is the absolute minimum we have to add to the list this year and we can add a state league guy next year if need be, but why not do so this year so he can train with the squad for a longer period?
This is my man.
I don't look at production, I look at traits.
- In the first few seconds of the video, demonstrates excellent closing speed to lay a tackle and put a kick under pressure that causes a turnover. Recovers to take a mark at its highest point from the resulting rebound 50
- Excellent follow up work to his own taps
- 0:52 - yes please
- Excellent intercept capablilities
By the time Hayes is ready to take over from Lycett fulltime, you'll be able to plonk Andrew in a forward line with Georgiades and it'll be box office, then have him rotate into the ruck when Hayes goes off for a rest. Basically like what Melbourne does with Gawn and Jackson.
A guy who is a freak athlete will have a good highlight reel, but if you’ve watched him play you know that he does something that makes you go wow, then spends the rest of the game running around looking completely lost.Hahahaha, god no. Wouldn't even trade Ladhams for this guy, let alone Ladhams + 16.
Has the club put out a statement I've missed somewhere that we have traded up to get Wanganeen-Milera?
They way Rowe is going on about it I've obviously not been paying attention.
Mac Andrew would make a lot of sense.
I like Wanganeen-Milera but if the club were targeting him there's no way it would be out there.

If you teach him how to play football he will be a star
I don’t want to be the one to punt on him learning the game.
Looks like Bont the way he seems to just glide through the pack. That’s enough for me!
There might be a shit load of ruckmen to draft in 2022, I like Will Verrall, I played with his old man and have been watching his progress since I found out it was his boy at the start of this year, but it doesn't meant you can't take 2 this year on 1 year contracts as stop gaps if we use the rookie draft and special drafts after the rookie draft and by mid next season.REH, I’m absolutely on the keep drafting and developing rucks bandwagon. Do I want lord rucking all year in the magpies and the Maggie’s midfield to struggle? No. i want lord to continue to develop as a kf who does 2nd ruck duties. But I can’t see who we would realistically get, and I don’t believe port would add a spud ruck onto our list to be a magpies stopgap or what ruck even comes here for that.
Have I seen all the rucks? No. Have I seen anyone worth watching? Almost certainly.
There’s been a whole heap of champs games where the states have selected rucks. Hayes was the best ruck in the sanfl and the closest challengers were adelaides afl listed ruck and Jarrad fat as a house redden.
As I said before teams went hard for rucks in the mid season draft, they picked up all of them.
the only ruck prospect in the draft is Toby Conway, who’s little more than a prospect who will go half a draft earlier than he should cause if a team likes him they will have to bite early. He’s not remotely close to playing afl football. There’s no point targeting him in the draft and overpaying.
yeah it’s not ideal to just have lycett and Hayes, but nothing we do now is going to really change our fate..what ever it is.
next years draft is a super draft for rucks. Maybe there’s been a better year but it would be long enough ago that I can’t recall it off the top of my head
wa has 2 prospects I know about (this far out) broadbent who is something like 205cms, 97kg and a absolute monster already. Condon who is 202cms and has people raving. He looked bloody excellent in the game I saw. Natural ruck.
Sa has will verrall 201ish? And he’s already built like a brickshithouse and highly rated. Harry’s Barnett (202ish?) again, highly rated, Tom Scully 203cm (and he’s a late birthday who is apparently still growing) who I’ve seen play forward and I love how he jumps at the ball with his mitts out and takes the ball where no one else can reach it. He has very good hands. Isaac keeler who people call a paddy Ryder clone. And a 198/199cm kf called lemmey who I think is an ace kf prospect with ruck height.
then there is 2 Vic rucks that are rated who I’ve barely seen and don’t really remember their games (it was a while ago) will Elliott and another I forget but rated as decent prospects.
I don’t know about the other states.
That is a hell of a list. If even half of them turn out half as good as I think it’s a good draft to target rucks.
Yeah but that’s not our style. Virtually every player gets 2-3 years to prove their worth. McEntee, for instance. It’s unfair on players to get them to change their whole lives around, for $40k or whatever the rookie payment is, then cut them 12 months later. There might be a sh*t load of ruckmen to draft in 2022, I like Will Verrall, I played with his old man and have been watching his progress since I found out it was his boy at the start of this year, but it doesn't meant you can't take 2 this year on 1 year contracts as stop gaps if we use the rookie draft and special drafts after the rookie draft and by mid next season.
And if we take pick 102 because we have the last pick and we don't want to miss out in the rookie draft with that particular player, and we give a kid 2 year contract, no big deal, we can drop him down to the rookie list after 12 months.
