Would you trade our first next year for a pick in the teens that could get someone like goater or sonsie?

Maybe. I rate next years draft higher though.

He said on the podcast last week that it would drop some time today with an update tomorrow.

It's dropped now and he has us taking Sinn at 14! Perhaps the surprise being Ben Hobbs falling to Essendon at 13 before us and he'd be ideal for us if he could slip one more! But I'd be very happy with Josh Sinn.

Reading Twomeys article, I think we traded up to pick 14 to take pick 14! We get the player that is left from the 5 -14 bracket. The top 14 has been pretty defined for about a month and we get what we get.

The Power will be a fascinating watch on draft night. They'll be on the lookout for another top-30 selection in any pick swaps deal to see if they can add one before a bid comes on father-son Jase Burgoyne. A bid for the silky-skilled Burgoyne, the son of 2004 premiership star Peter, seems most likely after the second round after he decided to nominate the club as his preferred destination. The run of Hugh Jackson could add to their midfield group, Miller Bergman's versatility and foot skills could also appeal, while VFL key defender Charlie Dean has attracted some interest but the Power might have plugged that hole with the free agency signing of former Lion Sam Skinner.

I would be very happy if it played out like that and we took sinn, but if Hobbs was to fall to our pick that would be fantastic.

Im not concerned with Sinn's injuries but with the amount of football he has missed during a critical time for development.

What makes up for it is his drive to succeed at AFL and he's still seen as some as a top 5 pick. Granted injuries and COVID have restricted him but personally see that as a blessing in disguise. I also see him making it as an inside mid in the long term.

For 2022, I'd like to see him on a wing with Bergman transitioning into inside mid

I haven't been into this draft (I assume I'll be an expert once I read Cal's article) but another half back flanker?

I think in the future he will have the size to enter the midfield. He's so explosive that he could well play some role in the inside mid early on. He definitely has the strength. But he could even play on a wing and push Bergman inside and with his speed, it would be a damaging point of difference for us. And a quality ball user too

Sinn will be an explosive midfielder. He may start as a back flanker, but that's not where his career will be.

Here are my final draft rankings. These are purely a Port Adelaide wish list in order of my wishes for Port.

We need the best available mid with our first pick. The one exception is Andrew whose versatility and athleticism is too much to keep him out of the top 14.

Then I have listed players I would try to trade into the second round to get. This would mean losing our 2022 R2 pick or Sydney’s 2022 R3 pick.

Finally, I’ve listed players who, if still available, I’d use my last live picks on and players, if still available I would rookie list. There is a bias to small forwards and inside mids with a turn of pace. Unless we get someone like Andrew, next year is the draft to set up our key position players and rucks.

Positions pre AFL mean very little, it’s up to where the club thinks the player will play the best football. I mean in recent years Bergman was drafted as a HBF, Rozee as a HBF/mid etc. Hopefully we can just add a good mid to our young mix

That's true going from mid to half back/forward. But going into the midfield, finding and winning the ball is a genuine skill which Rozee and Butters fail at.

Huh?

Butters was putting up some big games in the midfield and was finding plenty of the ball before he got cut down.

Rozee is just being held back by his body but has shown he can find it in the midfield as well..

Forgive my ignorance but I see Wanganeen Milera linked with:
  • Adelaide
  • West Coast
  • St Kilda
I don't know who the kid barracks for but surely he would be a massive risk for all these teams when his Uncle has history with Essendon and Port. Especially West Coast and St Kilda. He would be a massive risk for them after the number of kids who either seek to go home after a couple of years or go to teams they have links with. Its all very well to link him to clubs based on his ability but are those clubs really going to take the risk that he will not be gone after two years? I am sure a lot of people would be in his ear after two years about his Uncle's history with Port and Essendon.

I am sure people know more about his history and alegiances than me. I like him if he falls to us. I think we have a number of players who will potentially move into an inside mid role and the more good kicks and elusive players with speed we have the better. Plus we have a fantastic framework and history with indigenous players.
