Pick whoever:

Can kick on both feet
Is not short
Is not skinny
Can run all day
Can tackle
Cannot be tackled
Can find the ball
Can win contested possessions
Has blistering pace
Regularly goes forward to kick goals

Thanks

I like it already!

Looking at Cal Twomey's top 25 phantom draft, looks like the NHL / Ice Hockey occurence of biased drafting of kids born in the first half of the year is slowly creeping into AFL drafting.

5 of the 25 are born in August to December, 7. Josh Ward, 12. Neil Erasmus, 13. Ben Hobbs, 16. Darcy Wilmot and 22. Jesse Motlop. 3 are born in July, 2. Sam Darcy, 8. Jay Amiss and 18. Tom Brown.

7 are born in the first quarter and only 3 in the fourth quarter. 10 in the 2nd and 5 in the 3rd.

A study of NHL drafts between 1980 and 2007 showed 36% of players drafted were born in the 1st quarter of the year and 14.5% in the 4th quarter......... The authors looked at about 2,700 Canadian players drafted by NHL teams over a 27-year period, finding that those born in the third and fourth quarters were drafted more than 40 slots later than their productivity warranted.

Because the AFL are attention whores. Only the first round tonight.

Yeah, only 20 names tonite - they'll probably give us the life story of the first 6 to 10 of them and then whizz through later on when our selection comes up. I'd laugh if a team caught them on the hop with a left field selection that they didn't have a package prepared for, but it's probably already all been decided, much like the Brownlow ;)

Here we go another year another FOXTEL wankfest. If we still have pick 12 I will come back in a couple of hours and find out who we picked. An exercise that should be all over in 2-3 hours takes place over two nights.

Last year was not too bad because we were having a crack at Lachie Jones and Jackson Mead but this year we have one pick in the first 60 which is hardly riveting TV.

In the NBA you can draft the player and then trade them during the draft, can the same be done here?

Shhh someone at AFL house might hear you.

Not sure about players but I think you can exchange picks. There was a suggestion in this morning's press that we might trade picks to get a second round pick. If we were going to do that why not do it when we traded Ladhams? We went up the first round order when we could possibly have worked a low first round pick and a high third. Not suggesting we would do that rather questioning why we would do it.
