Amiss is more of a tall leading Fritsch / Bergman than a true kpf.

Williams was more a traditional kpf but maybe lacking in tricks?

Van Rooyen had some clangers but some nice tools and endeavour.

Bazzo was a nice attacking KPD.

SA really seemed to lack talls and depth.

Wanganeen-Milera good again.

Nasiah seems to be the one on a solid upward curve.

We really need a few more picks 1 at the front end maybe 3 around the 30 mark. Maybe spilt our current first round pick if we can find a higher pick somehow?

How was Amiss in the game? Is he more than an accurate set shot?
Amiss was really promising. He seemed to be very much a confidence player and didn't realise how good he is.
I’m catching up on this game now. Amiss is much more athletic than I expected. I don’t think we need spend much time thinking about him in this thread as he will be gone at least 10 picks before we enter the draft. I think the Fritsch comparison is a good one - albeit with the added bonus of a KPP frame.

Reckon Jesse Motlop is another that will go reasonably early. He’s got the forward craft, natural defensive instinct and is ready to play AFL round 1 2022. Like Pickett a couple of years ago he is a safe bet.

I’ll post some more thoughts when I finish the final quarter and a bit.

It was great to finally see a Championship’s game. The first half looked like WA would go on to win by 15 goals but then SA threw the magnets around and had a much more competitive 2nd half.

WA:
Brady Hough was my BOG. He very narrowly missed a few goals which would have resulted in a big day out. Played mostly half forward and a little in the midfield. Would be interested to see him play more on the ball. He’s a great size at around 190cm. Surprised I haven’t heard much about him previously.

Bazzo a close 2nd BOG. Reads the play really well down back, athletic for a genuine KPP size and a pretty good kick. I wonder if he will be more of a Nick Haynes type at AFL level than a true KPD? Not that it matters, he’ll play plenty of AFL football either way. Suspect he will be around the mark of our first pick - similar range to Heath Chapman who went in the teens to Freo last year.

Johnson - this guy is all class. It feels like every draft has 2-3 ‘Scott Pendlebury’s’ but Johnson actual does play like him. Impressed by his clean hands, composure and skills. Suspect he’s long gone by our first pick but would love him at Port.

Van Rooyen - hard to judge a mature body full back against that SA forward line but he couldn’t have done much more. Very aggressive. Hope we can see him against some of the Vic boys before the draft.

Browne - moves well through traffic but kicking wasn’t great.

Warner - played well. More outside than his brother and physique would suggest.

Tunstill - got first hands on the ball at stoppage plenty. Would like to see him again.

Amiss & Motlop - see post above.

SA:
Horne-Francis - if there was a criticism it would be that he was too unselfish. Rowell was a bit the same when he played in the Champs. Clearly better than others out there and it would be great to see him show off. Didn’t have much impact in the midfield but looked super dangerous forward. He’s a complete package really.

Draper - Does everything well but didn’t have a big game. Would like to see more, as he’s another I suspect will be in that 15-25 range.

Roberts - if you’ll indulge me in a player reference from my youth, he reminds me of Paul Hasleby. How would Hasleby go in the AFL today I wonder? Good kick but lacking athletically. The WA midfield were impressively accountable but it was a bit of a concern how often he was tackled.

Burgoyne - In a complementary way I feel like he will be a bit of a frustrating player in his first few years. He coasts around like the game is too easy for him and you just wonder what he could be if he dropped the hammer. Had a heap of the football firstly off half back and then impressively playing as a centre square mid later in the game. In the top few for SA on the day and a nice f/s prospect for us. Clean hands and composure.

Jackson - didn’t have a good game, even still I get the sense he’s a good player just having one of those days. Keen to see more. Has a bit of pace out of congestion.

Wanganeen-Milera - best footskills in the game by some margin and has the composure to make sure his possessions count. Entirely an outside player at this stage.

Liddy - outperformed all the big names in the SA midfield. A natural clearance winner and gets himself in good spots around the ground. Could be a good pick up later in the draft.

Picks 17, 60, 71, 72 at this stage?
I hadn't realised how far back we had actually moved.
Yes and 2022 is likely to be a strong draft for key position players and trading out future picks would be irresponsible (and from 2023 to 2026 we have 15 possible father/sons).
We may trade some players to improve this or next years draft hand.

I honestly can’t see us keeping our first rounder this year. It’s going to be in a sweet spot to trade it out for an established younger player that fills a need. The absolute earliest it can be is 17 or 18 with daicos and Darcy bids. Look around for either an established mid or a forward to put butters and rozee up field more often and trade for them.

100% agree.
If we could snare someone like Dawson for our first, then have a crack at a free agent, plus burgoyne would be enough for me

Perhaps we might even consider trading out our first for a next year first from a loser team?

I still think we might want to target specific drafts…

Back the team we have to go again. Add a free agent for midfield depth. Try and keep everybody including Clurey, SPP, Ladhams, etc.

Like the cricketer with that name - made a pair on his test debut.
That was Hoochie Goochie who made a pair on debut in England 1975, but Amiss made a pair in 1974-75 series in Oz. Think he made 2 more ducks in that 74-75 series.

It looks like Cerra will go to carlton for pick 6. It could be a smart move to offer Powell-pepper and pick 17 for 8. I really like Powell-pepper but if he’s not getting put in the midfield I’d rather go up the draft board and get a really good midfielder then having a super sub.
This year, i don't think there is that much difference between 8 & 17. There seem to be 3 or 4 rolled gold choices, and another 4 or 5 really solid selections, then a very even next 15 or twenty.

Trading up to 8 is pretty risky with somewhere around 7-9 players worth trading up for and two of those players unavailable to us. There are 7 live picks before ours, with only 5-7 kids worth trading up for. Not keen.

I’d want something else back though.

Yes.
Would like to get an extra pick in the 16 to 25 range.
