Cal said 3 clubs not us are looking at the dogs pick 23 and that we are looking to get back into top 30.

At the moment we have next year's Rd 1 and Rd 2 picks. We traded our Rd 3 for Finlayson and got Sydney's Rd 3 for Ladhams.

To get a top 30 pick this year, means we are giving up our 2022 Rd 2 pick and something else.

We wouldn’t need any more then our future 2nd
Pick 23 would push out to 25 if we finish 7th or lower they’d be getting a top 30 pick next year in what is meant to be a stronger draft and it’s a free pick they are getting really because it would’ve just got chewed up in the Darcy deal. I think they’d actually come out winners in that deal but would still be good for us. Could possibly get a sonsie and a knevitt

As you say: a stronger draft in 2022 - WHY SHOULD WE TRADE OUT FOR AVERAGE PLAYERS THIS YEAR???!!??

Because you draft what you feel will be a good player every year, not wait for a supposedly "good" draft year.

Sometimes players go backwards from their previous season, and what was predicted as a "super" draft turns out to be no better than the year prior. There's no guarantee a 2nd rounder next year will turn out to be a better 2nd rounder than this year.

This year we may haveour eye on a player for a specific position. Next year those players may not be as abundant in number and hence not available at our picks, so you target them when it is appropriate to do so if you can.

I did like the way he performed in the game against SA at Thebarton……. If he floated out later in the draft , it’d be a good thing….but it would be a stretch.

West Coast have often nabbed players I'd like us to have got - they'll probably get Dittmar as a replacement for Hurn and he'll play 300 games for them too.

If there is a certain player we want with a second rounder this year for a future pick I have no issues with it. We’ve shown our talent identification is on point so assuming we would be doing it to target a certain player, no issues.

Future trading somewhat takes away the risk of trading next years pick anyway. When next year comes around, we can again trade a future 2023 pick to get back into the 2022 draft. There begins an endless cycle of gambling ladder positions with future draft picks constantly switching hands.

Its a SUPER DRAFT for key position players and ruckmen.

THE TOP end of the NAB AFL Draft order looks set to remain as is until draft night as the deadline for swapping picks before the event closes in.
Clubs are able to trade picks until next Monday, November 15, before then being blocked from doing any deals until the draft starts the following Wednesday, November 24.
But with only two pick swaps being completed since the end of the Continental AFL Tyres Trade Period, clubs are not expecting any serious movement in the early stages of the draft to be completed pre-draft.

I’m not sure this is the case.

It’s thought to have more SA tall talent.
However, SA rarely produce good talls (at least not KPFs) and next years crop will have missed a couple of years of footy and those that could play (SA and WA) will have missed out on playing against the best (ie Vic). Talls also take time and don’t always come along, plenty of good junior talls who excel in the U16 struggle in their draft year and vice versa.

we also don’t know what will happen next year. What if more footy is missed next year?

If next year is rated to be strong then maybe a third rounder next year gets us a second rounder this year. How many good talls are selected in the third round?
If someone like Draper, Goater, Sonsie, Sinn, Knevitt were available - do that trade!

Ending up with two of the above or maybe NWM/Amiss/Andrew and one of the above is a huge win.
