Hey guys, scuse the intrusion. Thought you might like to have this resource on your board (mods might like to sticky):

Remember Allan Jeans and his story of how he was given money to buy shoes for school but instead of using all the money to buy a quality pair of shoes, he decided to go for the cheaper version and had to go through half the year with shoes that were falling apart.

We were prepared to pay the price for Sinn because he obviously gets what we are trying to do at Port and wants to be a part of it. Another flanker? No. Another player who had the size, strength and speed to play multiple positions and is one step closer to total football.

Yep quality over quantity. If we make finals again that second rounder is in the 30s anyway which is starting to get a lot more speculative.

We’ve recruited very well the last few drafts so I’m happy to back the call. We don’t have many with his attributes and if he truly does “Plays like Scott Pendlebury” no one will give a sh1t about the late second rounder we threw in to get him.

Johnson didn't go in the top 20 so I'm happy with the pick. The draft is about getting good players not just maximising points.

Last weekend I literally almost bought a $10 sausage roll but changed my mind. It looked good!

Apologies for intrusion but I think we were 100% taking Sinn, he’s the trademark Dodoro “flanker we can turn into a mid” pick. That aside I think you’ve got a good one, if he’s an AA in 5 years time then you won’t care what you paid for him!

They obviously had intel that either Essendon would have taken him, or some other team was willing to trade up with west coast and there was a chance that they were doing it for sinn. We then valued sinn and what he immediately brings to our list more than what the next available option would have been which was Hobbs. I don’t know if that’s right, but like I said in the other thread, I like that our list managers identify who they want, then have the balls to make it happen. I was hoping to trade next years first and take Hobbs and sinn, but that might have been unrealistic.

Nobody's hating on Sinn, just on the inefficient way we ended up getting him. If I pay $10 for a sausage roll, even if it's a very nice sausage roll I still overpaid for it.

Fox Footy yesterday morning had our doomsday scenario as a team trading up and grabbing the player we want.

They didnt know exactly who that player could be, but they might have been on the money about the general plot arc.

They also reported mid-afternoon that Essendon had switched their attention to Sinn.

Can only do it if we get a future second back. It would have to be a convoluted trade. I would look at either Johnson or sonsie though.

Sometime after this years GF there was a really good story on how a very large part of Melboune's flag was created around their 2nd round draft picks - I think our recruiters were on Summer camp by then and missed it.

I don’t have an issue with it at all. Brisbane gave up a future second to us to move up 1 spot in the second round a couple of years ago. Do you think they would be upset with that? We wouldn’t have done it without solid info that sinn wouldn’t be there if we didn’t.

Might be more likely to do it with north or hawthorn, but would need a second back. Would a future first for someone like Draper, sonsie or goater and a future second be worth it?

Re Ladhams trade - have to remember we wanted to move him on and there were some what limited suitors….we weren’t trying to trade Gawn / Grundy tier ruckman

Re Sausage Roll - I paid $10 for a small sausage roll and a small pie on the Jetstar flight to Adelaide last night…..so you could say a full size sausage roll would be $10….no sauce was available

No. Pretty much the opposite. Go for broke has an instant mid fix coming in.

Just on all the prior comments regarding Hobbs and Essendon.

He was on SEN just now and said he had multiple teams say if he is there, big chance to choose him. All those clubs passed on him and Essendon said the same thing.

Agree with prior posters. Reckon Essendon could’ve easily pinched Sinn from us and definitely had no firm commitment to Hobbs, especially with what he said this morning.
