Ablett didn't play for a fair chunk of the season and was done after about 5 mins in the GF.

Cameron, Higgins and Smith are all better than whoever it is they'll be keeping out of the team. All 3 are younger than Ablett and Taylor.
That’s fine, I just don’t think it necessarily follows that Geelong will be better. There’s form. There’s cohesion. There’s continued ageing in Higgins, Smith, Selwood, Dangerfield, Hawkins. And then there’s the fact that other teams like Brisbane, Port, St Kilda and West Coast will be snapping at your heels and who knows they may improve more.
So if someone dares to leave Geelong outside the top 4 in a prediction thread without seeing the fixture and 4 months before the season starts, I wouldn’t be getting all offended.

Who's offended?

In my initial post, I never quoted anyone asking why they didn't Geelong on top, in the 4 or in the 8, I just posted up my list, nothing more, nothing less.

I listed who I think will make the top 8 and who wouldn't. The only club in the top 8 that I have in order is Geelong. I never posted that they would be better or worse, my reasoning is that following their trading strategy, if they don't win it then it's been a wasted year so a failure in the end.

The bottom 10 I put in a roughish order with the bottom 3 or so about where I think they'll end up.

My reply was to a Geelong poster who grizzled because despite the addition of three players some thought, as is their right, that Geelong would drop away

Maybe you should have quoted him when you posted your whiny response.

Geelong supporter complains that not enough people have tipped Geelong for top 4, even though Cameron and Higgins and Smith have been added

I suggest that new players are no guarantee of success, especially if other clubs improve more, which is quite possible

You say that I am whining

Its an interesting point that - and which clubs are going to improve - and maybe contrary to most opinions - a team jumps out of the pack

You take Geel and Rich - no one after 2006 season was saying Geel would win flags - and it was exactly the same with Rich after 2016 ( especially losing the final game of that year by over 20 goals to Swans ) . But all the pieces came together and they won flags

So most think - the upcoming season - Bris StK WB Port - will take the next step - but will they - maybe a club outside that group can jump up - like Geel and Rich - and when it happens it just happens

One thing the draft/trading system has showed - is when a club gets it right - and all the bits of the jigsaw puzzle come together and they assemble a good list - they will win multiple flags .

And it’s really hard to predict. The top 4 is rarely the same two seasons in a row. You’ve given some great examples. Likewise sometimes a premiership fancy unexpectedly drops away, perhaps due to injuries, an internal club dynamics problem, ageing players, lack of motivation, a disconnect between coach and players, indiscipline or suspensions. So much also depends on the fixture.

A few posters have us last (Entirely possible) and if we did finish last I'd expect Merrett to exercise his FA rights meaning we could have picks 1 and 2, How good is next years draft exactly?
It wont matter how good the next draft is. Finishing last would still condemn you to another 3-5 years in the cellar.
