The plan from here on seems to be pay for nothing until the outrage is high enough that they have to back down and buy at least that current series.

Having a look through some stats, I think the only specialist batsman (bats top 7) to play more tests at a worse average than Lahiru Thirimanne (37 matches, avg 22.40) is Javed Omar who played 40 tests for Bangladesh when they started playing tests as an opening batsman at an average of 22.05.

Godfrey Evans batted more times in the top 7 at a worse average for England in the 50s but he was a wicket keeper who often batted lower than 7 too.

Basically what I'm saying is how does Lahiru Thirimanne continue to get games?
