I said 6 - 10 on Sunday and a lot of people laughed, but you cant do what he did

Any suspension of 8 weeks or greater would end his career.

He's already got 8 weeks worth of suspensions under his belt so another 8 weeks means he's deregistered.

Edit: Thankfully he only got 3.

All the more reason not to touch an umpire

just dumb thing to do

Wtf???? Are you serious?

Yep.

Any player who accumulates 16 weeks of suspensions is automatically deregistered.

They can appeal for to be re-registered once only, after they have sat out of the competition for at least 12 months.

Not sure that applies for AFL

Yep that's for AFL.

State level takes the AFL record and drops it by 25%. So if you cop 16 at AFL level it goes back down to 12 for the local comp, giving players a chance to play local footy at least.

Greene has 5 weeks worth of suspensions left in his AFL career.

Three is fair. Sets enough of an example. If he had have got six weeks he may as well have punched the player he was complaining about to Stevic. Six weeks is MARGINALLY better than what Gaff got for punching Brayshaw. Think a lot of people here are letting their hatred for Toby cloud their judgment. Stevic himself said he didn’t feel threatened.

I genuinely love Toby Greene but ffs stop doing dumb shit.

I think it is the way that he did it and showed no respect. He more than plays on the edge. regardless of him being a top footballer and making out it was an accident is weak as piss IMO. Recall the times he used to stick his foot out and kick players in the head- did it twice. Would have got his jaw broke if he did that in some of the VIC country leagues. I've got no time for the squeezer now, he should have got 6 weeks and the AFL send out a message.

The calls from people saying 6 weeks, or even 12 weeks are extremely over the top.

Obviously, you cant touch umpires and the optics behind it aren't great but an incident where the ump never felt threatened or even felt the need report Greene himself shouldn't be given the same level of suspension as punching someone in the jaw or the same amount of weeks as Walker got for racially abusing Robbie Young.

I happen to like him so I probably should shit my mouth about past indiscretions but that studs up crap is rubbish. If any other player did it they wouldn’t care. I recall Riewoldt doing it twice in a Game two years ago and everyone argued that it was unfair. But cuz it’s Toby… again the bloke doesn’t do himself any favours but I get sick of the trial by media. Saying three weeks is making an example. He won’t win a premiership this year anymore. Saying six weeks is saying he’s almost as bad as Gaff.

Exactly the point I’m making. look at Hawkins in the “dont ****ing touch me” incident. That got one week. Why does this get more? Oh right because it’s Toby ****ing Greene.

gimme a spell.

GWS arguing that it ‘wasn’t deliberate’ on Greene’s part was absolutely laughable.

So you’re telling me that one of the AFL’s most evasive players, a guy who can leave defenders clutching at thin air, ‘accidentally’ walked into an umpire who was standing completely still and wearing fluoro yellow? Give me a spell.

For what it’s worth, I think he’s extremely lucky to get 3 weeks, rather than 5 or 6. Stevic did him a massive favor.

Gaff's tribunal history is very minor compared to Greene's, so where's the comparison based on records? Gaff threw a lucky punch that broke a players jaw.

I think that rule only applies to the lower leagues, not AFL

Not true - Stevic didn't report it because he wasn't sure if he may have moved and contributed to the contact. He said at the tribunal that after watching the tape, its clear he didn't move and the contact was intentional.

Interesting to see what the AFL does given that the finding was that

“Greene had a full view of the umpire ... he was looking straight at the umpire. The umpire was stationary. Jury finds Greene’s conduct was disrespectful, demonstrative and aggressive.”

And the AFL Counsel had then argued to the jury for a tough suspension because

“You’ve found that he has intentionally breached the rule.

“You have rejected his repeated insistence that his act was not intentional.

“Your submission should say to anyone who plays the game ‘do not do this.’”

Gleeson says Greene must be suspended for no less than six weeks.

On that basis they'd have to appeal - and they should!!
