Totally agree with all the comments re: umpiring.
Two things though...holding a slim lead with a couple of minutes left Zorko gives away 50, followed up by a jumper hold on the wing by I think it was Ah Chee. That's no way to hold on for a win.
Along with all the missed shots, umps are only half to blame. Half is still a lot though!
That kid Bailey is a go-er, isn't he?

I’m alone in a lot of my opinions when it comes to footy and I’m sure this is no different - I honestly find it very difficult to respect Joel Selwood.

Zorko lost his temper. I think he was sick of Selwood faking all night and it got the better of him. He should of punched his head in. Still only 50m but you get some satisfaction

umpires very happy on the whistle tonight. Early on they paid a lot to Brisbane and got the cats over the line with some disgraceful calls/non calls.

typically consistent inconsistency.

You are definitely not alone there.

Geelong showing massive cracks now. Umpires raffling to save them late. I thought I hated Collingwood until I saw Selwood dolphin diving around like hes done his whole career. What an over rated flog

So many home games will be the bandaid over the cracks this season if the home ground umpiring tonight is anytning to go by. They’ll make top 4 again on the back of it.

She at least wasnt afraid to pay the free kick despite the closeness on the scoreboard.

Much better than what occurred tonight.

Quite ironically, she had more balls than the guy tonight!

And I'll say it again this is what happens when you have part time umpires. EPL/FA, NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS. All paid a wage then get match payments for what tier they officiate. You give an umpire 100k a year on an afl contract to begin, then up it with experience.

Make them accountable. Much like how AFL players are full time employees now, so can umpires. They train, do reviews, do clinics. There is always something to do

Been reading autopsy on the Cats board and finding it hard to believe the large majority of them don’t see any problem with what happened tonight. You can be happy with 4 points without being a completely delusional campaigner about how you got them. Then again it is Geelong so I don’t know why I’m surprised.

so here's the funny thing there was an identical free kick paid in the F50 at the start of the 3rd that resulted in a goal

umpiring department can't win either way
They paid one in the Cats F50 about 10 minutes earlier against Berry who had less time to dispose of the ball and didnt throw it.

Ironically, it was then Berry who laid that tackle at the end.

Part time umpires isn’t the problem. It lack of umpires and if they went full time there would even less umpires. And it’s proven that full time umpires cop just as much as part time umpires. We certainly don’t need full time umpires. We need more umpires. By the way that is dead set holding the ball. A terrible mistake. No prior is correct. His problem wasn’t he didn’t attempt to kick or handball.

I agree with this totally. A part time or full time umpire will still make a contentious calls. Full time would give us less quantity and worse quality of umpire.

Most have careers outside of football at a relatively high level, they wont sacrifice their career for 100k a year and the type of abuse they cop (incidentally no other workplace cops such abuse).

I was critical of Eleni last week, but she is young and gets put with experienced umpires like Stevic. She made a call last week in front of goals with a minute left to play in a close game. it was debated for ten pages on here and I still think it was 50/50, did he tackle or was it a bump? (lests not go there).

She at least had the courage to call it as she saw it. We see what happens when an umpire doesn't pay those frees last night. I ask you what was the wost decision, last weeks or last night?

We have less umpires because who as a kid want to get abused and sometimes physically assaulted because they are adjudicating a junior game. I don't get to many junior games but went to see my nephew play in the 10's years ago. My bro in law was umpiring. At a break went out to talk to him and was surprised to see two blokes standing with him. He told me it was competition rules that all umpires was to be accompanied by two others at all breaks to stop any irate supporter from attacking them. i was amazed that this has had to be enforced at an u 10's match.

If we want our game to continue and thrive, if we want the best umpires, we need to encourage kids to get into umpiring or as Plugger states there will be less in the game and the standard will be worse.

Its the bloke in the coaches box , that should be taken to task , good winner Scott .
Everytime any decision immediately the Camera vision goes to him , umpires watch the
replays in review ..never comments about Umpires always refers back to vision .

Very slow team the Cats at present , particularly backline.

Social media makes it even worse than 10 years ago. Imagine a potential young umpire reading some of the stuff written about other umpires I have no answers but I do know full time won’t help

100%.
Scott being pulled away from opposition players by his own players was a shocking look. He’s a recidivist - has done this before with the umps, Razor Ray, if I recall.

I don’t care how sooky he is in the box and how stupid he looks, these other actions are completely unprofessional. Should get a fine.
