OK GWS posters, we'll run the traditional knockout goalkicking competition again this year, similar to the last three years. The reward will be bragging rights on this board, and a shiny badge for your profile.

In short, the aim is for posters to nominate GWS players they think will kick goals in games, and if they do, you pass that round and move onwards. If your nominated players don't kick a goal that round, unfortunately you're out. It's a bit of fun with (minor) bragging rights and a shiny badge for your profile page to the winner.

Playing conditions:

1. If you want to play, you need to post in this thread before the first bounce of our first game (21 March) with your nominated players.

2. Nominate a primary (P), secondary (S) and reserve (R) player. e.g. P - Greene (and spell his name correctly or you're backing Tom Green!; S - Cogs; R - Lloyd.

3. As usual, I'm using more than the usual one player because with our likely small number of participants, I don't want to finish too early in the season! (Which we have done in the past when we've had a game with really low scores - hopefully this year is different!)

4. If you don't specifically annotate P, S & R, I'll assign those designations in the order you name your players.

5. For each week, I'll use the nominated primary and secondary player - provided one of those kicks a goal in that round, you'll pass the round.

6. If one or both of your primary or secondary players (who are regular first graders) is/are not playing - due to suspension or injury (before the game!) - then I'll substitute the reserve player as an active player. (If both primary & secondary players are out, then the reserve player becomes your only lifeline.) If all 3 players aren't playing, then sorry, you're going to be eliminated - unless you nominate new P & S players before the start of the Giants game that round. NOTE: This substitution will not be valid for simple player non-selection. You'll have to specifically name a replacement.

7. Posters can re-nominate their P, S & R players before kick-off each round to account for omissions, injuries & suspensions. Rule 6 allows those away or lazy to not be too disadvantaged. You may choose to re-nominate players each week, or simply keep your initially selected players all the way through (which is what most do).

8. If we retain most participants deep into the competition, then I'll narrow requirements (e.g. nominate the primary player needing to kick a goal) before the game starts.

9. I reserve the right to cause posters to change their selected players at some future point, if required to achieve a result (e.g. if 2 posters have exactly the same nominated players). I'll aim to make it fair on all participants.

10. For the fun of it, I'll participate, but won't be eligible to win & my entry will be ignored in determining the winner.

11. The winner is the last remaining poster who has a nominated player who has kicked a goal. If unbelievably too many people stay in until the end, I'll use a countback system - around your primary player's goal-scoring. I doubt that will be the case though, given our past performance!

12. If in a single round, multiple players are knocked out such that no-one remains, there will be a tie-breaker process to choose a winner. Alternatively, I may choose to ignore the results of the week that knocked the remaining players out and reinstate the knocked-out players to continue.

13. Competition is open to all GWS badged posters, and regular dual citizen posters (e.g. dlanod, Pres, kulak, Drummond). If you'd like to play and you're not sure, just ask. I do need you to have some GWS affiliation.

14. Winner gets a badge awarded by BigFooty.

So, any questions, drop a post in here or PM me. Remember, you need to nominate by bounce on 21st March - I'd reckon we need at least 10 participants to make it worthwhile but love to see lots of interest (it's pretty easy after all!).

Good luck!

OK, so here's the line-up for the first week:

Giants Strides: P - Greene; S - Coniglio
Ppollen: P - Himmelberg; S - Greene
Gigantic: P -Greene; S: Himmelberg
General Giant: P - Greene; S- Himmelberg
dlanod: P - Greene; S - not selected
GWS Goose: P - Greene; S - injured, replaced by R: Himmelberg
Determinant: P injured, replaced by R: Kelly; S - Greene
Ichabod Noodle: P - Greene; S - Himmelberg

And at half time, everyone's through on the Toby & HH goals.

Yay everyone.

We're all looking pretty similar with Toby & HH; so I'll have to have a think about that at some point in the future.

OK, week 2:

Giant Strides: P - Greene; S - Coniglio
Ppollen: P - Himmelberg; S - Greene
Gigantic: P -Greene; S - Himmelberg
General Giant: P - Greene; S- Himmelberg
dlanod: P - Greene; S - unsure if Riccardi was still injured or just not selected, but I'll assume injured, so replaced by R - Hill
GWS Goose: P - Greene; S - ditto Ricardi, replaced by R - Himmelberg
Determinant: P - ditto Riccardi, replaced by R: Kelly; S - Greene
Ichabod Noodle: P - Greene; S - Himmelberg

So, everyone gets through again on Greene & Himmelberg. I thought we were going for a wipeout there at one stage. Round 2 would have been a record! :(

GWS Goose: P - Greene; R - Himmelberg
Determinant: R: Kelly; S - Greene
Ichabod Noodle: P - Greene; S - Himmelberg

So, everyone gets through again on Greene & Himmelberg.

Hmmm, I might have to shake up the selections given that seemingly endless repeat ... I'll have a think on it this week.

Those 2 won't score every week

OK, bump for anyone who wants to review/revise their assigned goalkickers. With Cogs & Lloyd out and Riccardi back, I'm changing to:

P - Toby Greene; S - Jake Riccardi; R - Jeremy Finlayson

OK, sorry folks, have been a bit pre-occupied and forgotten about this a touch. I'll go back through by the rounds and check whether we've lost anyone.

Giant Strides: P - Greene; S - Riccardi
Ppollen: P - Himmelberg; S - Greene
Gigantic: P -Greene; S - Kelly
General Giant: P - Greene; S- Himmelberg
dlanod: P - Greene; S - Riccardi
GWS Goose: P - Greene; S - Riccardi
Determinant: P: Riccardi; S - Greene
Ichabod Noodle: P - Greene S - Himmelberg

Round 4 v Pies - Greater Western Sydney goals: Greene 5, Finlayson 4, Kelly 2, Hill, Himmelberg, Riccardi

Round 5 v Swans - Greater Western Sydney goals: Himmelberg 2, Finlayson 2, Daniels, Riccardi, O'Halloran, Greene, Kelly

Literally everyone's selected primary & secondary player kicked a goal in those two games!

Round 6 v Bulldogs - Greater Western Sydney goals: Greene 4, Taranto, Himmelberg, Stone, Hopper, Ward

Greene & HH kicking goals again gets everyone through!

OK, so round 7 coming up versus Crows, and you might want to review/revise your teams. Ricccardi is out, Hogan is in, and note that the rules are a non-selected player (i.e. Riccardi) is not replaced by your reserve (only in the case of suspension or injury).

The current line-ups are:

Giant Strides: P - Greene; S - Riccardi; R - Finlayson
Ppollen: P - Himmelberg; S - Greene; R - Riccardi
Gigantic: P -Greene; S - Kelly; R - Himmelberg
General Giant: P - Greene; S- Himmelberg; R - Taranto
dlanod: P - Greene; S - Riccardi; R - Hill
GWS Goose: P - Greene; S - Riccardi; R - Himmelberg
Determinant: P: Riccardi; S - Greene; R - Kelly
Ichabod Noodle: P - Greene; S - Himmelberg: R - Riccardi

[EDIT: bolded Riccardi just for dlanod!]

So, naturally I'm going to swap out Riccardi for Hogan: Giant Strides: P - Greene; S - Hogan; R - Finlayson

OK, here's where we're at now:

Giant Strides: P - Greene; S - Hogan; R - Finlayson
Ppollen: P - Himmelberg; S - Greene; R - Riccardi
Gigantic: P -Greene; S - Kelly; R - Himmelberg
General Giant: P - Greene; S- Himmelberg; R - Taranto
dlanod: P - Greene; S - Hogan; R - Hill
GWS Goose: P - Greene; S - Hogan; R - Himmelberg
Determinant: P: Riccardi; S - Greene; R - Kelly
Ichabod Noodle: P - Greene; S - Himmelberg: R - Riccardi

Riccardi named as reserve isn't an issue provided those posters' primary or secondary player don't fall over injured or sick between now and bounce down, so just Determinant needing to swap out Riccardi before the game, if you wish?
