Funny the club is floating Cameron playing. Billy on the rush hour confirms what others have said in that he isn’t training and won’t be playing until May. A few jokes about it but you can tell there is real concern now.

Rumour doing the rounds is that he still has some bleeding in the hammy and is having injections. Not a tear but not doing any training so it would be a massive gamble to play him you’d think.

Just listened to that interview becauae I was curious and tbh, it's exactly what I said - he doesn't really know what's going on.

He also literally said the words 'I don't know.' Sounds like it's all just a bunch of speculation, to get clicks. He's only saying we won't see him until May, due to the fact that there's been no media releases about Cameron training. When the player himself comes out and says 'I need to tick boxes x, y and z, then I think we can be pretty confident that he's not hiding anything. Maybe he's having private training sessions one on one. Maybe he's doing strength and conditioning work, while also managing his loads. He has nearly a full pre-season behind him, so it's more a case of just getting on the training track this week and next, and proving his fitness. Main thing with a hammy is to let it heal, then build up your fitness - not try and train in between...so it's not that strange IMO.

I think the whole thing is speculation and innuendo, due to no-one in the media having much of an idea of what is actually happening.

When a player themselves addresses where theyre at though, it's a very good sign Think about it, did we ever see Cocky, Linc, Menzel, Vardy etc. come out and do that? Nope, all we got was radio silence, vague answers from the coaching/med staff when asked, and a timeline that just kept stretching on without there being any info provided.

Now that info has been provided, we should probably have a clear idea of how close he is, and I'm sure something along the lines of 'he was close, but we gave him that extra week to be ready and firing for the Eagles' will be Scott's response in the post- match presser.'

Believe this has been posted in the match day thread, but relevant here also - doesn't sound ideal for Kreuger if he's missing matches through knee soreness this early in the season

His time on the GC was cut short when he returned to Vic for an arthroscope last year due to knee soreness - hopefully this isn't as serious as that issue

Early prognosis
Coach Chris Scott has locked in Cameron for his first game as a Cat against West Coast, but he'll still need to get through main training. Dangerfield finished the win over North Melbourne on the bench after an ankle tweak, however the Cats are confident he'll be fit. O'Connor will be hoping to return from a minor heel injury, while Simpson should finally play his first minutes for the VFL side in a practice match against the NAB AFL Academy on Saturday. Kreuger missed last week's VFL match with knee soreness. - Mitch Cleary

Sam Simpson looks physically stronger this season... he looks like he has matured into a man body, you can tell even in his face structure.

I think Simpson and Parfitt will be good small midfielders for us in the next decade.

And an injury update from the club regarding various players - update on Kreuger sounds slightly concerning if they are consulting with specialists

Patrick Dangerfield (Ankle)
Following further assessment of his injured right ankle, Geelong midfielder Patrick Dangerfield has undergone surgery.
Scans revealed a syndesmosis injury, and it was felt the best course of action was for Dangerfield to undergo surgery.
Dangerfield will be out of action indefinitely, with his rehabilitation and recovery from the injury determining his return to play.

Shaun Higgins (Hamstring/Thumb)
"Higgins has the Bennetts fracture to his thumb and he’s also had the hamstring strain," Cats GM of Football Simon Lloyd says.
"He has progressed to a splint and has commenced his hand therapy rehab. He has returned to running so we’re happy with his progress."

Francis Evans (Ankle)
"Evans basically has the ankle syndesmosis injury, he’s making good progress in his range of motion and is working through the strengthening phase," Lloyd says.

Jeremy Cameron (Hamstring)
"Jezza completed a big session on Saturday at high volume and speed, with a large part of that being football," Lloyd says.
"He trained with Sam Simpson and Harry Taylor and also completed group training with the forwards.
"We’re expecting him to be available pending getting through training in the coming days and everything being ticked off by our conditioning and medical team."

Mark O’Connor (Heel)
"Mark was out with a heel injury – he had some heel bruising. Expect him to be available," Lloyd says.

Sam Simpson (Quad)
"Sammy Simpson is nearing full recovery, he had a big session with Jeremy last Saturday," Lloyd says.
"He’s available pending physio and conditioning staff assessment during the week."
Simpson confirmed his availability as a special guest on this week's podcast.

Cooper Stephens (Knee)
"Cooper had the medial ligament strain, he’s working through his rehab and progressing well," Lloyd says.

Nathan Kreuger (Knee)
"His left knee has presented some issues, it’s a minor issue," Lloyd says.
"We’re consulting some specialists."

Shaun Higgins (Hamstring/Thumb)
"Higgins trained this morning in our craft session and moved really freely," GM of football Simon Lloyd says.

"He had the thumb issue and the hamstring and the thumb was more of an issue than the hamstring.

"He’s back moving freely and will be up for consideration in the coming weeks."

Esava Ratugolea (Groin)
"The day of the game he had some groin soreness, in the warmup prior to the VFL game against the AFL academy," Lloyd says.

"We decided conservatively to pull him out of the game.

"We are expecting that he will come back into the normal football program with ongoing management."

Mark O’Connor (Hamstring)
"O’Connor has a hamstring injury. He’ll now commence his rehab program and tick off what he needs to over the coming weeks," Lloyd says.

Jake Kolodjashnij (Knee)
Kolodjashnij has a low-grade MCL, he suffered the knee injury during the game.

"He was able to continue to perform, then he was medically subbed at a point in time when we communicated with the doctors and decided it was best for him not to go on.

"We’ll see how he goes throughout the week but he’s unlikely to play this week."

Francis Evans and Patrick Dangerfield (Ankles)
"Both have had syndesmosis ankle injuries and are continuing to work through their rehabilitation," Lloyd says.

Quinton Narkle (Ankle)
"Narkle had an ankle sprain in the VFL," Lloyd says.

"He was playing some wonderful footy. A lot of clearances and some great run and he used the ball really well on the weekend.

"He’ll be available to play this weekend."

Nathan Kreuger (Knee)
"Kreuger has had a minor knee issue and will hope to build into a return to play in the short term," Lloyd says.

Cooper Stephens (Knee)
"Cooper is progressing positively through his rehab with his running program," Lloyd says.

Shaun Higgins (Hamstring/Thumb)
"Higgins trained this morning in our craft session and moved really freely," GM of football Simon Lloyd says.

What a waste of 15 seconds of my life.

I heard his cut and paste was outstanding, and he only coloured outside the lines twice.

If he can nail the knitting next week, he is a certainty for selection!!

One of the very few instances where I wish we could be more like Collingwood. Reporting of injuries:

Chris Mayne (calf) - Available for selection
  • Copped a corkie to the calf last week. Cautious approach taken due to age and was ruled out of ANZAC Day. Right to go and is available for round 8.
Jordan De Goey (concussion) - Test
  • Will know on Wednesday if he is cleared all the necessary concussion protocols. A chance for Saturday's clash.
Mason Cox (hamstring awareness) - Test
  • Kept out of the latter stages of the VFL on Saturday as a precautionary. Scans after the VFL on Saturday have given Cox the all clear. Ran today and should train fully all week.
Taylor Adams (knee) - Expected return: 6-7 weeks
  • Tracking really well. Set to meet with specialist next week to get out of the knee brace.
Trent Bianco (knee) - Expected return: 1-2 weeks
  • Has had a solid two weeks of training under his belt. Joining full football program this week and there are hopes Bianco will be available for selection next week.
Jamie Elliott (lower leg) - Expected return: 6-7 weeks
  • Alter-G running has begun and will manage load over ground this week.
Levi Greenwood (concussion) - Expected return: TBA
  • Cautious approach being taken after delayed concussion sustained in round 6.
Jeremy Howe (hamstring) - Expected return: 3 weeks
  • Has started running and will continue to increase strength through the week. Expected to return for round 9 against Sydney.

The really telling factor here is that even the farcical lack of actual detail we're receiving now is a significant improvement on what the club used to 'offer'.

Still, you'd wonder if they could actually be more opaque if they tried.

Which is exactly the point, I guess. Lloyd certainly appears entirely comfortable to say very little while speaking a lot.

Can honestly say I haven't looked at the club's nor the AFL's injury pages this season or that much in the last couple years. Reached a point where not something all that interesting to seek out.
When they're named in a team on a ______ night before the next game then sweet. Back fit.

What were you hoping for? I now have an idea about every injured player on our list from that report..

Further injury updates as per Geelong Addy & Lachie Young

GEELONG defender Jake Kolodjashnij is in doubt to make the trip to Sydney this week after scans revealed he suffered a low-grade medial ligament injury during his team’s win against West Coast.
Kolodjashnij was subbed out of the game against the Eagles and finished on the bench alongside Irishman Mark O’Connor, who did a hamstring late in the match.

O’Connor has commenced his rehab in a bid to be back in a few weeks’ time, but Kolodjashnij’s situation remains uncertain.

“(Jake) Kolodjashnij has a low-grade MCL,” Geelong football boss Simon Lloyd said.

“He had the knee injury during the game. He was able to continue to perform, then he was medically subbed at a point in time when we communicated with the doctors and decided it was best for him not to go on.

“We will see how he goes throughout the week but he is unlikely to play this week.”

The absence of O’Connor and likely absence of Kolodjashnij opens the door for a pair of Cats to make their way back into the senior side, with a host of players putting their hands up for a game.

Charlie Constable and Sam De Koning could fill the holes in the midfield and defence left by O’Connor and Kolodjashnij, while Quinton Narkle is another ready to stake a claim in the AFL side.

Narkle suffered an ankle sprain in the VFL on the weekend but had won plenty of the ball and used it well, and his injury will have no effect on his availability for the Sydney clash.

Veteran Shaun Higgins is still at least a week away from being ready for a return to playing, but Lloyd said the former Bulldog and Roo was showing positive signs on the track.

“(Shaun) Higgins trained this morning in our craft session and moved really freely,” Lloyd said.

“He had the thumb issue and the hamstring, and the thumb was more of an issue than the hamstring.

“He is back moving freely and will be up for consideration in the coming weeks.”

Nathan Kreuger and Cooper Stephens remain on the sidelines but are making progress from their respective concerns, while there are hopes Esava Ratugolea will make his way back into the regular football program again soon.

Interesting comment about Ratugolea with "make his way back into the regular football program again soon" - kinda sounds like the groin soreness may be a bit more serious than just groin soreness, and that he won't necessarily be playing VFL this week. Hopefully that's wrong and he is ok to go, but something about it doesn't sound totally promising

No free kick despite Allen going in low on Kolo and thats what the rule was supposed to prevent?

******* garbage and now he is out with an MCL.
The rule was brought in for this very reason.

Of course the commentary praised Allen and forgot Kolo was even there -

edit - I think Lewis praised both players toughness actually

GO Catters

There was a good amount of outcry at the ground, especially players stand end as we had a clear and it didn't look good

I would love it if they bought in Donkey and play him in defence, to see what he can do back there. Not sure the swans really have a match up for him though, as most of their talls are injured.

We don't even need to replace Kolo, just let Henry stay back and bring in Holmes and Clark for O'Connor and Kolo - easy peasy.

Will the match committee do that? I doubt it. I smell Zac Guthrie on the horizon...
