I think he should be told to get on his bike and run Mummy into the ground. Also, he has to avoid wrestling matches at stoppages around the ground. Mummy will try and use his weight advantage to wear TDK down And break him down that way. Also, I reckon this would be a good week for Casboult to come back if he’s fit and able and rest Pittonet.
Why would you play TDK on Mumford full time - when we are short a tall forward anyway and Pittonet can go on Mumford with TDK as resting ruck against whoever they put in?

Did I say we should play TDK on Mummy full time? Also, did you miss the bit where I said if Casboult is fit, we should bring him back in and rest Pittonet? If TDK can play like Kreuzer against Mummy, he would be leading Mummy all over the ground. Avoid the wrestling and I reckon he can do him over.

Lets see how it goes on the weekend :D Go Baggers!

Have you any interest in Riccardi or think he would be a good fit for us?

Hypothetically, if Charlie, Gov, Casboult we’re all fit for the rest of the year, who do they replace and who would you like to see used as the back up ruck?

Would certainly have interest in Riccardi, but as a Levi replacement I prefer a Chol or Ballenden type

If all those players were fit, I would go with TDK in the ruck over Pitto, with Levi (important that we look for a replacement in the off season) as the chopout

The others are mobile and quick enough to play in the same side and suits our current gamestyle but would also benefit from sharing the ball more and or being hit up with lowering our eyes going into inside 50

Could/should you play Saad as a pure (full-time) winger?

Has good endurance
Has elite pace
Is very good overhead for his size (so a good marking option down the line)
Is excellent 1-on-1
Great kicking skills
Makes v good decisions
Excellent I50 delivery

IF he doesn't want to play pure lockdown and we have a few loose HBF types already, perhaps move Saad to the wing?

I'm a huge fan of this idea. We've been playing Docherty in that role the last few weeks, but Saad is definitely more of an offensive threat. Plus, it also allows Doc to be the 'general' and organise everyone down in defense.

Our back 7 could look very different this week. IN - Plowman, Parks. OUT - Saad (wing), Stocker (on-ball).

I really think TDK is our Cas upgrade. just need a Pitto upgrade which should be a lot easier to find.
I think getting a quality ruck is harder than getting a quality forward/ruck. In that case, TDK would be the Pitto upgrade and someone like Hayden McLean, Coleman-Jones or Chol for example would be the TDK 'replacement'.

However if we plan on playing Gov up forward, then our 2nd ruck on game day will not come from one of the names mentioned above (too big and slow if we add a 4th tall). We could either play an undersized Setters/JSOS in the ruck, or use OMac as a KPD and let Jones pinch hit.

However, if we see Gov being a defender in the future, then we need to look at trading in a new key forward/ruck. That being said, it will be interesting to see if the coaches will back in the Pittonet/TDK as a long term combination.

Jason Horne looks a excellent player, fits the Blues needs in terms of requiring another gun midfielder, likely to be gone by our pick at this time, unless we slide further down the ladder by year end.

There are ways to get him to slide instead - shame we don’t have SOS anymore...

Yup Jason will be long gone , he’s 1st pick 2021 will be an elite AFL midfielder. I’ll be very happy if we can snare any of , Roberts , Rachele or Sonsie all silky skilled goal kicking midfielders, exciting talents. Either will complement Sam Walsh going forward. It will take a pick in the top 5 to 6 to secure an excellent young midfielder.

it behooves me to point out this is the sort of stuff they said about sps, lob & dow - it's just too easy to suggest this early on...........

Yes it’s easy to suggest thy , perhaps it’s desperation , we must strengthen our midfield exponentially , a mature body Cerra maybe ? via trade and another quality youngster. Reckon the lads mentioned will be all be around the mark.

On the flip side of the coin, many here (esp the staunch, stalwart VFL watchers) who said Matthew Owies will never cut the mustard, be up to AFL standard.

Feels like we have been getting good value of late with mature age players in the draft and developing them (Gibbo, Cotters, Owies and Parks etc)

I want our footy club to draft and develop more future Sam Walsh type kids from our own development program, not keep raiding other clubs.

I like Mitch McGovern, I really do, but no doubt that was a bad trade for us, both on what we gave up and a SC level.

Our lack of quality developing and nurturing draft picks (esp 2nd rounders and beyond) is the biggest thing holding this club back, more than so called perceived coaching issues.

It's a real source of frustration for me that TDK aside, we have not been able to do the same with our younger draft picks, aside from Sam Walsh in recent years.

FWIW I always felt there was something special at Owies, even when playing flat at VFL level, I just knew there was a decent AFL player in the making, given the opportunity.

The biggest thing holding our footy club back (and probably for over 20 years now) is our lack of quality young player/draft pick development more so than any so called coaching issues.

Once (and I firmly believe it will happen sooner rather than later), we can get that part of our footy department sorted, we will be going places as a football club.

No more quick fixes, no more spending big money and or picks on Saad and or Williams types, let's build and develop from within.. This is how we will grow and develop and nurture as a footy club.

Yeah I recall Owies was being chased by Cats too, and we were lucky to have beat them to him so there was some potential. I'm happy things are beginning to develop nicely for him.

after weits, harry & vanilla I can't see why owies wouldn't be the next best thing that's happened for us this season - in a pretty poor season it has to be said
