Ed is a tagger/ inside midfielder or bust. He can tag as well as everyone in the competition and is the most underrated extractor in the comp, but he’s he is midfield or VFL. Stupid putting him elsewhere.

Agree re Ed tagging a Sloane. Test him in his position. The whole team should tag though , then win the ball and spread accordingly. Play the game in front of you with intent and aggression.

I don’t understand how going for Cerra would be getting ahead of ourselves. He is a kid and a legit midfielder. All he does is comes with a higher probability of making it then a draft pick would and we know the exact type we would be getting. The absolute worst thing we can do as a club is not actually get a decent player with this pick, regardless if they come from the draft or trade. A lot of pressure on what we do. Cerra’s salary will be the biggest problem imo.

I’d be leaning towards going to the draft but this pick is in the exact range of our bid on Setterfield and the Dow and SPS picks. Saad at pick 8 looks like the best move we have done in that range of the draft.

Narkle dropped again. Quality player to go after.
there has to be more science to it than "he's their 23rd best player, he must be best 22 for us".............

Think it's a year to be pretty conservative on acquisitions.
A Levi replacement would be good, and some KPD depth, but we should be taking our first to the draft.
Cerra is too expensive for what we need right now.

TDK is still developing and needs another 50 games . Don’t mind if Levi gets another year down the line .

Levi's knee is ****ed. Don't think he has another year in him.

If we're thinking that TDK is a Levi replacement rather than a No.1 ruck, then we need to be looking for a number 1 ruck.

Cas moved and played well in the reserves. Plus the suspension week off he will be primed to impact the next few games . TDK at centre half forward for me .

It is ok to try a player in a new role and see what happens. What has happened is we get a so-so HBF out of the experiment - who always looks better with ball in hand further upfield and even makes better cleaner tackles - upfield. As a player SPS is an attacking natural - and he is qite effective in close quarters tackling than you very much - when he gets isolated one on one in defence - he has too much to think about it isn't his caper.

If SPS needs to build a tank or play midfield o HFF or wing rotations - build his tank FFS.
IF Dow needs to put on 5-7 kilos and build a tank - get on with it same with LoB.

If Kennedy or whoever else just doesn't have the leg speed to play his designed role and isn't ever going to be an A grade extractor- chop him and move on.

It isn't rocket science surely?
What about JSOS as a third tall defender while we bring in Carroll to play his position. JSOS could play small or tall. He could even play an interceptor role.

I'm sure he would give it his best no matter where he was played - but not convinced his marking is up to scratch atm.

Just saw Hutchy mention we are playing Williams 800K and have given him a 6 year contract so his view was we have made a 4.8 m error.

I am not sure how footballers contract are written but do we have any recourse to moving him on or do we have to pay out the balance of the contract if we want to give him the flick.

If we move him on via trade, the other club would need to agree to pick up his contract in full or they take on part and we would need to pay the balance (ie like Treloar at WBs)

Could not see anyone paying him 800K a year. This is really looking like a bad decision from the club.

I see your point but don't agree. Most top 5 draft picks are guns. Most top 10 draft picks even. We took McKay at 10 and Curnow at 12 which was good going. Obviously we got the 2 recent no. 1 picks right too. I don't think Saad was at all a good move at the 8 price plus a heap of salary. Couple that with the recent McGov and Williams gambles and I don't think we can afford to go down that path again.

So, maybe it's just the situation we are in, but I think Cerra spending our forthcoming high draft pick plus a heap of cash on Cerra seems irresponsible. Think he's a good player, but not worth that price, to us, now. Might be one eyed but if you gave me a 50/50 chance to get a young gun like Walsh/Weiters/McKay/Curnow I'd flip the coin rather than take Cerra.

Yeah, the issue isn't so much a trade in isolation as it is accumulative.

Everyone is criticising us for the Williams and Saad, but neither look as bad if we had only taken one of them (that's not to say they were acquisitions, it's much too early to tell).
Other good examples are Essendon trading right out of 2017 draft for Smith/Springer/Saad, but then going for Shiel in 2018 (and 2019 1st). They've been somewhat saved by Danniher and Saad walking out. Also Beams back to Collingwood, a shocking trade on it's own, but dramatically amplified because they had already traded 2 x 1sts for Treloar, and used another on Stephenson.

Given that we've had such a bad season, it's a bit hard to correctly analyse our list. And given our big swing last year, I think it's much better to take stock, hit the draft, save some capital for next off-season when we can be more targeted.
