Well in this scale senario AFL players start at 80, so if it was a scale of 1-20 in toughness O'brien is actually -1. The only person to get a lower score is Kane Lucas With a negative 4

Liam Jones is currently our highest ranked player at 19

Other notables

2020/ 2021 Marc Murphy - 3
Cripps - 18
Fog - 17
Doc - 17

I'm stunned. I haven't seen anything to suggest Lochie is a better kick than Weitering. Multiple times a game Weitering hits a flat 40 metre pass to a chest. 1 game in slippery weather and suddenly he's no good?

If you're going to use recency bias against Weiters heck the last time Lochie was seen on an AFL field he missed an un-pressured 15 metre pass by about 10 metres.
I said nearly all of them and I think that Weitering is the best of the lot and he is below average in the league for kicking efficiency for his position so obviously it isn’t just me being biased. Yes LOB was poor but still kicked at an elite level in terms of efficiency % for his position in that game. Yes stupid stats I know but it puts some context into our perceptions. I don’t think I’m biased at all, I love Weitering and I don’t think LOB will make it but I still think he is a better kick then pretty much everyone in our side.

If you go back to LOBs draft year draft forums a lot of people were bringing up just how rare it is for someone with as low contested numbers as he had to actually succeed at a higher level. They also questioned that he was winning his possessions because of his athleticism. I guess it’s now possible at a higher level his opponents are much more closely matched athletically so he doesn’t get the same amount of room (not smart enough to find it) and his contested game hasn’t improved.

he looked a lot better then I expected when he first came in. I was actually really excited because I always thought he would be a slow burn and he started so well. Problem is he has seriously not looked like he has improved at all since his first season.

I had read and said similar at the time. Dow also had great pace and strength as an u18 but has struggled against similar athletes at AFL level.

It’s important to look for kids who are dominating due to football smarts and not just overpowering scrawny kids.

I reckon Will Day from the Hawks will become the perfect example of this.

The thing that costs us v most other vic teams is our lack of father son’s. Besides Jack we haven’t had a decent one since Lance Witnall.
These are free hits and just not sure why our great teams of the 70s and 80s don’t produce decent offspring.

Where do you rate?

It's not tasteful to rate yourself, but a Ormond player in the VAFA once said to me "that is the most courageous thing I have ever seen on a football field" after I went back with the flight.

Who are we wanting to pick up in the MSD?

For me it has to be a KPP, either up forward, in the ruck, or a defender. I feel all 3 areas are those of need.

IMO it should be a fwd who can ruck, we have really been exposed with Levi's form/fitness and the injury to TDK giving us few options. This issue wont go away, so we need to find someone who can come in immediately and play this role.

I meant when Jones retires in a few years, not right now.
At that time McKay could potentially be a great replacement because he would have experience by then. I would also think we would be well and truly in the premiership window and be an attractive club for players to want to come too.

My first choice would be Balta though 😂
Sam DeKoning would be a fantastic get...

Sam DeKoning would be a fantastic get...

Was hopeful on draft night for SDK.
Wonder if he was on our radar if Geelong hadn’t called him out the pick before? Could we have dropped Kemp down further, or was Geelong on the case there too.
16. C.Stephens
17. B.Kemp
18. M.Georgiades (would also be handy)
19. SDK
20. S.Philp

LOB is a good kick but when you're trying to solidify your spot in the senior team, and you drop the easiest of marks and then miss the easiest of kicks, all in the space of 5 seconds, in the middle of the ground where the opposition can punish you, well, one has to question the lad's mind set (mental fortitude). Unfortunately football at the highest level is tough and unforgiving, and some players just don't have what it takes, either in terms of skills, durability of body, or mental application.

More broadly the concern is both Dow (3) and LOB (10) are still struggling to cement their spots in the senior team. I would argue they've just about had enough time now. This is the year they should really start making inroads. But they're not. Dow has been given a good run so far early in the season, but honestly he doesn't look like he is getting any better. Admittedly he has been put in some tough positions the past few games, and hasn't had a lot of easy ball, but at the same time I am seeing trends in terms of not being terribly clean with his hands, fumbling, losing possession too easily. It'll be interesting to see what the changes are this week. You'd imagine McGovern comes in for Jack. And Zac will come in, but who makes way? Probably Dow I reckon. Cottrell has been good on the wing, I cannot see him going out.

I think Geelong grabbed him a little earlier than what he was probably expected to go 25-30 range, just like his brother when he was expected to go possibly later on as well which has turned out to be a fantastic pick...
All in the eye of the beholder at the time i guess BH but Kemp was certainly a bargain pickup on talent alone hopefully he has no more big injury setbacks in his development years...
Would be great to know if Austin and the recruiting team have a high opinion of him and consider him a strong KP target with a few years of development already in him...
