Haven’t the Tigers won 3 premierships with playing an undersized second ruck? I cringe when I see the idea of adding another ruck to our side and playing two rucks, Harry, Charlie, plus key defenders and then trying To fit SOS or Gov.

Too tall, too slow and not enough forward line pressure.
Our game plan requires two rucks we cannot play without this structure … apparently … lol

Narkle dropped again. For the love of God please chase him at the end of the year. Perfect age bracket. Wouldn't cost much either.
Narkle: Hey Fog. My manager says Carlton has shown interest in bringing me across at the end of the year. How are things over there?

Fog: Yeah, it's okay. You don't mind playing in a forward pocket?

Old fog have to work on disposal more than his sense of humour -- cause he a butcher when in the middle

Charlie and Gov are very quick for their size, also consider bench rotations for all 7 forwards and time the chopout ruck/forward spends on ball
It's not so much speed, but rather agility and being light on their feet. Not getting in the way of our key forwards, getting the ground balls, and pressure from our smalls i50 is also just as important.

Exactly my point. We either play Harry as a chop out in the ruck (big no from me), or play an undersized 3rd tall forward in there. Neither option is fantastic, but that's what you get when you don't want to waste McGovern and his $700k+ contract.

I just don't see who we can use as a 2nd ruck if we don't play Pitto or Levi.

Jones has taken a few hit outs in his time.

I'm open to the idea, but never been a huge fan of using a KPD as ruck relief. It means that his opponent is left on his own with a mismatch on Plowman or Parks.

What we could do is recruit a key defender to essentially replace Jones, leaving him as an intercepting 3rd tall without the role of really locking down an opposition forward. Is that all worth it? I don't know, especially considering he's already 30 years old.

If that's what you want, I would then use OMac

Jones rucked very well in the VFL before his recall as a backman in the ones.
:)
I think they were trying to make him into a forward/ruck like Casboult… but changed their minds because all our other VFL defenders were injured.

Then if you believe that then you are happy the way the club is tracking..
I can’t say the last couple of weeks have been very joyful.
But the way I see it we have a very good list as in best 22 that with a few changes in game plan can beat most teams.
But we don’t have depth so couple of injuries to important players affect our output more than some other teams
Mitch rarely misses from 35/45 and I rate kicking skills especially as a forward he has good pace and leap for his size that spreads the defenders opening up the forward line for other players
We haven’t seen his best due to injuries but I’ve seen enough to know he can play the Degoey Stringer role for us
But his latest Hammy looks like a bad one I don’t know if players come back to play consistently after such an injury they seem to be chronic
His latest injury has caused me to doubt his durability but not his talent or what he brought to the team when he played

Think we all need to take a deep breath
Things aren’t as bleak as mostly the media are perpetuating to the masses.
We are 4 wins and 8 loses
Not what most of us or the general footy world were expecting, at face value it doesn’t look good, but if you take a deeper look, things aren’t as bad as some would have us believe.
First point

•we are missing or have missed a large chunk of players that are extremely important to our structure and team balance.

•Player like Charlie Martin Cunningham TDK Fisher Marchbank McGoven and add a half fit Cripps and a Williams coming off a long lay off.
These players are all in a age group which we are heavily reliant on and need to step up, most of them just have been able to stay on the park
Charlie missing is a massive deal, he’s right up there as the most talented player on the list, add him to our forward line and we are a completely different beast, the flow on affect is also massive, if in theory Martin McGoven and JSOS could stay on the park, they’d all be getting a weaker defender to match up on, Harry would also find life easier with less attention, and we would be way less predictable going forward.
Cunigham Martin Fisher and Williams, all players that should be coming into there best football
They just Haven’t been able to stay on the park, which has taken away all of our point of difference mids or match winner types and it’s made our midfield look very ordinary, we’ve looked good at times it’s usually when these guys one for these guys played well to complainant Cripps and Walsh, at this stage we just aren’t ready to bat that deep, leaving to much to too few.
We haven’t had much luck getting our best 22 out there all year and at this stage we just aren’t up to it and can’t cope with that many out.
In saying all that we haven’t been belted by any sides and weplayed all the best side in the comp, which is a small W considering how far off our best we’ve been and close we’ve been able to keep games
There have been positives

•Walsh is just a freak and will win Brownlows one day.

•McKay is elite, makes me laugh when I think about how much I was against us draft him in 2015, think most of us were hoping for other prospects, we now have the most talented young key forward in the game, take a bow SOS

•Wietering gone up another level, going to be the best 2 key defenders for years to come.

•Stocker has improved and seems to be getting better, has shown he might just be a pretty good football player, plays tough, cracks in hard, ball uses can be pretty good to and will get better with more confidence.

• Owies looks a good pick up, could be papley lite, Fogarty started well, but dropped off since. TDK coming back will improve us in time, Kemp has a load of talent and is very much the type of player we need, he’s finally back on the park.
Parks has been a nice surprise.

It just hasn’t clicked for us yet, the list has plenty of talent, IMO one the most talented going around, I just get the feeling that we are just one or two players and some luck on the injury front away from being a gun side

I have seen nothing since McGovern joined our club that suggest he should be anywhere near best 22 never mind being handy.
Buying players can’t we can’t develop them will be telling. Williams scares me. One day we will develop our own and buy the missing piece.

if anyone can help me out,

what is the likelihood of a player that hasn’t signed by say round 15, that there is a historically high percentage that they won’t be at the same club the following season?

If Charlie ever plays again he will be a shadow of his former self. Hope I am wrong, but the type of injury he has will be difficult to overcome.
Cunningham has been around for a while and been unable to cement a spot and too inconsistent.
McGovern has to reinvent himself as a defender or be moved on, even if we pay his salary. No impact on a game or in the forward line. No problem at all scoring since he has been out.

Martin has been outdone by Owies who is pocket terrier. Eddie teaching him how to move up the ground. Once he develops an engine, he could become a huge X factor. Martin has been underwhelming since joining and frankly would struggle to make the best 22 we have, as would McGovern.
Not a fan of Williams, as he is plays unaccountable footy and will not take one for the team. Opposition teams would be zeroing in on him and Saad, and how they leave the defence exposed.

We desperately need to grab Mitchell from Hawthorn. He is the final piece in the midfield puzzle.

His days as a forward are over. Either reinvent himself as a defender or trade him. If we have to wear part of the salary then so be it.

Agree he either moves to CHB or we simply have to trade him and pay a large chunk of his salary. Given his durability issues, I would move him on and pay his salary, probably SOS worst ever decision to acquire him on such big money. Was an average player at Crows in a super side.

Jones has taken a few hit outs in his time.
Around the time Jones was switched to defence in the VFL he also played some time in the ruck and did exceptionally well especially around the ground, if we had a 3rd tall defender Jones would be ideal but we don’t so he won’t.

Which is why, I think, the club was gutted that Marchbank went down with an ACL. He would have been ideal as the third tall defender.
