The best HCs aren't always X&O guys. Many of them are motivators, people-managers, culture-setters.
Give Campbell a chance to impress/surprise you before you slam the idea shut in my face.

Most with rings are aren’t they. BB, Reid, Gruden, Payton. Ones that are ex coordinators would be. Campbell has never been one.

Ra Ra coaches work for like a season (or two if you're lucky); , then tht sh*t wears off quick.

I like that the Lions got some experienced people as coordinators though who aren't Ra Ra's , so that could balance it out a bit.

Dan Campbell might not have coordinating experience but he has Asst HC and Interim HC experience at the Saints and Dolphins.
And like ADP said...he's the Military Commander basically, leaving all the strategy to the Generals (OC, DC). It can work for the Lions like this.

Jets hired ex-Eagles DBs coach Marquand Manuel as safeties coach.
Still only 41, Manuel will bring defensive coordinator experience to Robert Saleh's staff. He was the Falcons' defensive boss from 2017-18. Manuel has been coaching NFL defensive backs in some capacity since 2012.

Saints hired Kris Richard as DBs coach.
The ex-Seahawks DC/de facto Cowboys DC, Richard spent 2020 out of the NFL. He has been coaching defensive backs in some capacity since 2010, learning the ropes under Pete Carroll. It's a solid addition to a staff dealing with some turnover this offseason. Specifically, Richard is replacing Aaron Glenn, who was hired as Lions defensive coordinator.

Dolphins named Eric Studesville and George Godsey co-offensive coordinators.
Both Godsey -- Miami's tight end coach -- and Studesville -- the team's running backs coach -- get promotions and will combine to fill one of the league's last offensive coordinator openings. It's an odd arrangement but one that keeps both coaches in the organization and at the head of an offense captained by an inexperienced and sometimes-shaky QB. Both coaches had success with their respective positions in 2020: Myles Gaskin emerged as a reliable every-down running back while Mike Gesicki shined as an explosive pass catcher who creates mismatches in the secondary. Godsey and Studesville will now be tasked with developing the team's Tua-led offense to match the caliber of Miami's excellent defense.

Jaguars hired former Chiefs and Jets defensive coordinator Bob Sutton as a senior defensive assistant.
Sutton, who served as Jets defensive coordinator from 2006-2008 and Chiefs defensive coordinator from 2013-2018, will join Urban Meyers' staff in Jacksonville. He was most recently a senior defensive assistant for the Falcons. Sutton's KC defenses were regularly near the top of the league in takeaways and points scored. Postseason defensive lapses eventually cost Sutton his job. He'll work with Meyer to improve one of the NFL's most abysmal defenses.

Jaguars hired Zachary Orr as outside linebackers coach.
Orr was forced to retire in 2017 due to a neck injury. He spent last year as an analyst for the Ravens. This will be the first position coach role for Orr as he joins new HC Urban Meyer's staff. Orr will work with the likes of Myles Jack and Joe Giles-Harris in Jacksonville.

The Packers interviewed Saints DL coach Ryan Nielsen for their defensive coordinator job.
Nielsen has been the Saints' defensive line coach the last four seasons. He was offered LSU's defensive coordinator position this offseason, but his contract with the Saints prevented him from taking it. Nielsen would replace Mike Pettine if he takes the Green Bay job. The Packers have also been linked to Browns DL coach Chris Kiffin, Eagles DL coach Matt Burke, Chargers defensive passing game coordinator Joe Barry, Washington DB coach Chris Harris, Rams safeties coach Ejiro Evero, Falcons senior assistant Bob Sutton, and Wisconsin defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard.
