Panthers hired Seahawks VP of football operations Scott Fitterer as general manager.
With the Seahawks since 2001, Fitterer just completed his sixth season as VP of football operations. Something of an annual candidate on the interview circuit, Fitterer had never find the right fit to leave Seattle. Fitterer has a background in both college scouting and pro personnel, but he is most known for his work on the college side. A survivor of three head coaches and a handful of front offices in Seattle, Fitterer will be tasked with furthering ex-college coach Matt Rhule's NFL evolution, something he has experience with from working with Pete Carroll.

My only criteria for our new gm was for it to not be Jerry Reese so this is a great signing. 🤗

No idea about him but Seattle are pretty shrewd drafters , I'm willing to give Fitterer 100% of the credit for the the Wilsons and Metcalfs of their roster and Schneider 100% of the blame for the oline neglect. Makes sense to me. Don't at me.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the Steelers will retain DC Keith Butler for 2021.
The Steelers are having a bit of an identity crisis after yet another gutting end to a season, having already chosen to part ways with OC Randy Fichtner. On the job since 2015 and on the coaching staff since 2003, Butler will survive after his defense was top five by almost any metric. Thanks in part to injuries, the unit did spring major leaks down the stretch, proving vulnerable to big plays and missing some seemingly obvious adjustments. The talent on the field and brainpower on the sideline will remain there for 2021, however.

Sorry Jags fans. for in a few years when he turns the team into a toxic team and then has "Health problems" again before he gets fired or has some major league investigation into his actions.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports longtime NFL coach and current LSU passing-game coordinator Scott Linehan is a "prime candidate" to serve as Urban Meyer's offensive coordinator in Jacksonville.
The two coaches apparently have a "long relationship" despite never overlapping in the college ranks. A journeyman's journeyman coordinator, Linehan's primary function would presumably be to show Meyer the NFL ropes, though it is unclear if Meyer is planning to call his own plays. Linehan's hire certainly would not move the needle amongst the Jags faithful.

Didn’t exactly end well in Florida or as Ohio coach. Lots of questions on character.

him and his wife covered for one of his assistants at Ohio St who would beat up his wife.

Florida was bad, but there was always the thing at OSU that most of it never came out because he left. both schools he left for "health reasons" and said he would never coach again.

Looks like Meyer might have set the dominos in motion. Another HC gets a job today

It should mean that the 9ers also get two 3rd round picks as compensation as part of the NFL's new initiative to encourage the development of minority coaches/FO staff

EDIT: 1 comp pick this year, 1 next year

Jaguars coach Urban Meyer has reached out to Falcons interim HC Raheem Morris about Jacksonville's defensive coordinator job.
Morris interviewed for Jacksonville's head coaching job earlier this month. That may have been to gauge his interest in potentially linking up with Meyer, who is expected to bring most of his staff from the college ranks. The Jaguars want to pair Meyer with a proven coordinator like Morris, who was a head coach from 2009-2011 before replacing Dan Quinn on an interim basis last year. Steelers secondary coach Teryl Austin, Utah DC Morgan Scalley, and ex-Texas coach Charlie Strong have also been linked to Jacksonville.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports defensive line coach Jay Rodgers and safeties coach Sean Desai are the top internal candidates to replace Chuck Pagano.
With Pagano retired, the Bears need to make a decision on Rodgers, whose contract expires next week. He’s also expected to receive coordinator interest by other head coaches around the league. Desai has been with Chicago since 2013 and has spent the last two years as the safeties coach. Neither would be flashy hires, but promoting from within would make sense for a defense that ranked just outside the top 10 in total yards in 2020.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports ex-Chargers coach Anthony Lynn has been in talks with Pete Carroll about the Seahawks' offensive coordinator job.
Lynn hasn’t decided whether to coach in 2021, but he's among Seattle’s top choices. The Seahawks are moving back to a run-first offense, making Lynn a potential fit to replace Brian Schottenheimer. A former running backs coach, the Chargers averaged 111.5 rushing yards per game under Lynn despite multiple injuries at the position this past season. Taking a coordinator job in Seattle may be Lynn's best option if he coaches this year.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Falcons are "engaged in talks" with Titans OC Arthur Smith to be their next head coach.
This builds on reports that Smith is the frontrunner for the Falcons job. Smith has interviewed twice with Atlanta and cancelled his second interview with the Lions. All signs point to a deal getting done between the sides. The Falcons are expected to pair Smith with Saints VP Terry Fontenot as their general manager.

Falcons hired Titans OC Arthur Smith as head coach.
39 in May, Smith was a rapid riser in the coaching ranks and just wrapped up his second season as the Titans’ offensive play-caller. He worked absolute wonders with Ryan Tannehill, putting his career back on track after it looked like it was lost in Miami. Derrick Henry also became a monster under Smith and rushed for over 2,000 yards this season. A.J. Brown, Corey Davis, and Jonnu Smith were also budding stars in Tennessee. It’s an exciting hire for Atlanta, and Smith should call his own plays, working with Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, and Calvin Ridley. It will keep the Falcons’ offense in high regard in the fantasy community.

The Lions and Bucs DC Todd Bowles "decided to cancel" their scheduled Friday interview regarding Detroit's head-coaching vacancy.
With Saints assistant HC/TEs coach Dan Campbell emerging as the clear favorite for the job, Bowles decided he has better things to do ahead of Sunday's Divisional tilt with Campbell's Saints. The Falcons and Eagles have also been linked to Bowles, but it sounds like the Falcons are leaning in a different direction at this point.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Saints assistant HC/TEs coach Dan Campbell has "emerged as the favorite" to be the Lions' new head coach.
The Lions and Bucs DC Todd Bowles called off their scheduled Friday interview after the sides agreed it was clear Bowles wasn't going to get the job because Campbell has such a commanding lead. Of course, the Lions will have to wait for the Saints' playoff run to end before making the hire official, but all signs point to 44-year-old Campbell being the next man in Detroit. It's a 180 from former coach Matt Patricia. Campbell is a known leader of men and motivator. He retired from playing following the 2009 season and immediately became a coaching intern in Miami. When Joe Philbin was fired four games into the 2015 season, it was Campbell who became the interim boss, going 5-7. He's been at Sean Payton's side in New Orleans since 2016. It's an exciting hire for the Lions, who finally are moving away from their ways of trying to copycat the Patriots.

Jaguars coach Urban Meyer said he won't call plays.
The Jaguars will hire an offensive coordinator, potentially LSU's Scott Linehan to handle playcalling. We'd still expect Meyer to be heavily involved in Jacksonville's offense, but this should help lessen the load in his first season. Owner Shad Khan confirmed Meyer will be involved in hiring the next GM and have input in roster decisions. Both Meyer and the GM will report directly to Khan.
