Carolina Panthers. Zach Wilson.
:dizzy:

Texans head coach David Culley said Deshaun Watson won't play this week against the Panthers.
Culley was quick to shoot down speculation that Tyrod Taylor's hamstring injury and Davis Mills' uneven Week 2 performance would force Houston into activating Watson, who faces allegations of sexual assault from more than 20 women. Taylor has already been declared out for the Texans' Thursday nighter against Carolina, leaving Mills to start against an upstart Panthers defense that shut down the Saints in Week 2. Mills is nothing but a desperation option in superflex formats

I was just having a chat with a mate and it got me thinking.

Some here obviously know I dont rate Zac Wilson much and we were talking about the Jets there. But I thought of successful teams atm.

Patrick Mahomes - Pick 10
Lamar Jackson - Pick 32
Tom Brady - Pick 199
Aaron Rodgers - Pick 24

The best QBs in the game today were not the highly coveted picks out of college. They slid a little (though, some said back then, reached in the case of Mahomes)

Then on the other end of the spectrum,
David Carr - Pick 1
Joey Harrington - Pick 3
JaMarcus Russell - Pick 1
Mark Sanchez - Pick 5
Blake Bortles - Pick 3

Or Quarterbacks who have flashes of brilliance but couldn't maintain it for a prolonged career
Michael Vick - Pick 1 (Though, that's more to do with issues off the field)
Carson Palmer - Pick 1
Alex Smith - Pick 1
Vince Young - Pick 3
Matt Ryan - Pick 3
Sam Bradford - Pick 1
Cam Newton - Pick 1
Andrew Luck - Pick 1
Robert Griffin III - Pick 2
Jameis Winston - Pick 1
Marcus Mariota - Pick 2

Yes, a good qb can lift a team to the next level and turn a good team to a great team. But we're placing these players into more often than not disasterous situations and tell them to sink or swim. And in the vast majority of cases, it's not helping the franchise. Look at Atlanta and Carolina, take a good player, but all the pieces aren't around them to win it against the best.

I thought I'd just have a quick look, here's the draft position of all super bowl champion starting qbs since the turn of the century

2000 - Undrafted (So lets say 223)
2001 - 6
2002 - 199
2003 - 227
2004 - 199
2005 - 199
2006 - 11
2007 - 1
2008 - 1
2009 - 11
2010 - 32
2011 - 24
2012 - 1
2013 - 18
2014 - 75
2015 - 199
2016 - 1
2017 - 199
2018 - 88
2019 - 199
2020 - 10
2021 - 199

Besides Peyton Manning and Elisha Manning IV, no qb drafted in the top 5 has lead their team to a super bowl title for over 20 years.

I will admit that to win you need a good qb. But would you rather have a very good qb with no support, or a good qb who can slide into an already decent team and take them to the next level.

Why draft an Andrew Luck when you have nothing around him when you can actually build a team first then bring in a Dak Prescott a few years later. Andrew Luck will just get you stuck in no-mans land.

How long are we giving it til ESPN does away with the main broadcast and goes with Manningcast? I think I'm only giving it 2-3 more weeks.

Tbh watching both today the atmosphere really doesn't get captured in the Manning feed. It's not ever going to be big for casual fans unless it gets a lot of work. It's good for what it is.
