That kind of made up for the women's rugby sevens team losing to Fiji for the first time in history in the quarter finals earlier tonight.

Our rugby 7s gals shot themselves in the foot when they lost to the USA earlier today - that meant playing Fiji in the quarter finals, and the winner facing NZ in the semis

Beat the USA today and we would have been playing GB instead I believe

I was wondering before if we could see Aussie Rules football as an exhibition sport in the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane.

They have had an international cup every couple of years (was meant to be on the Gold Coast last year before Covid ruined everything) and there have been about 30 different international teams involved over the years, including teams from the US, UK, China, Japan, Spain and France.

Could have a team of Under 18s representing Australia as well, as a team of AFL all-stars would win every game by about 20 goals.

The one I thought would be a genuine option was T20 - unfortunately looks like we've been beaten to the post on that though by 4 years and LA:

In 2019, after it was added to the programme of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, the Marylebone Cricket Club (custodian of the Laws of Cricket) and the International Cricket Council announced that they would back the proposed inclusion of cricket as an event in 2028. In October 2020, USA Cricket (an associate member of the ICC) disclosed in its foundational plan that it would also back cricket for inclusion in the Games.

Watching the basketball and we look like shit especially on the offensive end, and not like a team that's ranked #2 in world

There's no flow to the team and it just looks like a group of players that have been thrown together this week without ever really playing or training alongside each other prior to playing an official match

One thing I'd like to see that I'm not really noticing is a better use of the bench and actually change up the players on the field - "we" seem pretty comfortable to stick with the same players even when things aren't working rather than going to the bench to see if those players can spark something

Even more annoying, when we do seem to get something going we then revert back to the favorites

Fair effort by the Opals to get back into this after they looked gone for all money halfway through the quarter.

I still say we look like a group of individuals on the offensive end - we got back into the game but more so based on individual efforts with ball in hand rather than running good plays

When we did execute offensive plays we looked good, but all too often things broke down too easily offensively and we appeared to have no plan

I'm also questioning some of the selections - I wouldn't have picked Cambage to start with but she's gone so we move on

Questioning the selection of Talbot, not as I don't think she's deserving because she most definitely is but rather due to injury. She didn't play against Belgium, played tonight but lasted 10 minutes before a suspected plantar fascia injury - if she carried that into the games I question the player, coach & medical staff thinking it was a good option

After a rather disappointing Rio, it looked like things had turned around for the Opals when they finished second to team USA at the 2018 world cup, but damn just 3 years later we look rather disappointing again - may need a full review of things around the team, including development and the role of the WNBL

That was f**king bulls**t. Ref in the perfect position didn't call the foul, but the ref who had no chance of seeing what happened called it.
Same official as who award GB their penalty attempt?

But in a good news story for officials, congrats to Australian soccer referee, Kate Jacewicz who was selected to be an official at these Olympics and tonight was the field referee for the USA vs Netherlands quarter final

Be good to see her get further gigs as the rounds continue

Sad about that result, but I enjoyed this one

Barty and Peers will be playing against Djokovic and Stojanovic in the bronze medal match for mixed doubles later today, after Djokovic has to play for the bronze medal in the men's singles immediately beforehand. Hope that one is a tight three setter so he is absolutely cooked before the mixed doubles.
