Someone in America tried to use my card so the bank cancelled it.

They didn't have the expiry date or the CVV so it failed. So most likely just some chancer with a random number generator.

Now I can't access my money for 10 business days which is basically 3 weeks because of Easter.

I've had similar happen twice with credit cards
- NAB blocked my card immediately when there was a couple of attempts at small purchases in the US within a few hours of me using it at home

- with Virgin I had bit more if a fight to get about $3000 back because they used my card between statements. I'm not necessarily going to check my CC between balances unless I need to, so didn't catch it at the time, but there was a number of large purchases up to like $500/$600 that added up and they finally acknowledged it wasn't me

Luckily I have a separate account with another bank with a few thousand in to tide me over. The annoying part is all the direct debits.

Yeah I had a separate key card and credit card when I was banking with CBA but that was because I had the bank account since Dollarmites. I think most places these days would just automatically give you the debit card and you don't have a lot of choice.

The good thing in all this is the bank did cancel the card.

Annoying to go thru all the direct debit stuff again, but that >>>> getting your money back

*and re. my ex's money, it was a good thing I had plenty of cesh, to get us both through the rest of the trip.

He could not get it replaced until he was back in Australia, which was 2/3 weeks off.
