Surprised no-one is interested in Greg Clark just yet. Maybe a sneaky Eagles or Freo pick later on in the piece...

probably a very very late draft pick at best, but most likely a rookie pick

What's the knock on him if you don't mind me asking - given Tim Kelly's success as a mature ager from the same comp?

Sokol, Schloithe, and Bolton have all suffered the same fate too in not getting drafted in recent years, so it does seem recruiters mostly avoid mature agers from the WAFL unless they're absolutely outstanding.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't have been against taking Clark with our last pick/taking him as a rook. Could add immediate impact to a side like ours

Bad skills and pretty slow, not much room for him in the AFL atm

Ahhh, didn't realize he had such bad skills (knew he was slow). Yeah that's problematic haha. Is that the same knock on the other 3 I mentioned in my above post?

Sokol is a weird in-between height and looks like he'll transition awkwardly to AFL level given he's not all that athletic. Schloithe and Bolton won't be anywhere near as effective when they're not number 1 midfielders

This is exactly the info I wanted, and perfectly answers my question - cheers Bastyy you legend :)

P.S. fantastic mock drafting again - wanna come down and work with Wells? :D

And in most teams that would take him, he is taking a spot away from a young developing mid, if he is to go somewhere it will be as coverage, not as a starter in the 22, therefore you wouldn’t use a national draft pick on him unless you have a heap of spots, a la north, hawks but they won’t want him in their young core group. Rookie pick is likely or as mentioned earlier, late draft pick to a team who may need backup coverage.

Pick 39 - Sydney Swans

Paul Curtis - Western Jets/Vic metro

181cm/ 73kg - Small forward

It was a toss up whether to add another mid in Browne/ Warner or add a player who could be a star in the Sydney set up, in Curtis. With gray gone, ronke still without a contract next year and Taylor not really in the coaches long term plans, there is need for genuine small forward depth behind papley and wicks. Curtis is a pure goal kicking small forward, with great crumbing skills and has some of the best goal sense you’ll find. Yes Sydney need more KPD but on my board no one left was worthy of being taken around this pick, and a young key back is not going to have a significant impact on this side next year. There are a couple left on the board that’ll be in the range of the swans next pick.

I take it all back. Nah. Liked the first two but that stings. I don't doubt the thinking but I wouldn't be doing that this year, KPD depth is far more critical for our list position

I wouldn't, Murley is a gun but just had his injuries this year. He could end up a very good footballer at AFL level, in the Butters mold and definitely worth the selection.

His recent combine testing was outstanding too.

He's horribly underrated. Fantastic prospect. If it all falls this way in the real thing, then Richmond have absolutely nailed this draft

If Sydney want a KPD, you might need to pony up 31 and 39 and make a play for the Doggies pick 23 or go for JvR/Bazzo at 16.

If you are prepared to play riskier and go later, I would think Polson is a decent option but 70 (now looking more like 64) it may be too late given the lack of KPD options. Possibly look to do something with Brisbane with their pick 41 which looks more like 47.

Charlie Dean from the VFL might be the best late draft KPD. The VFL best and fairest winner often becomes a decent AFL player.

was a good KPD in his underage year in the NAB League for Sandringham Dragons, but then played as a forward in his draft year with mixed results which saw him go undrafted which i thought he was stiff to not get drafted, good on him coming back a couple years later and putting his name back up there.

Pick 45 - Geelong - Kade Dittmar (Inside Midfielder/Western Australia)

For my last pick I decided to talk about a talent I like a bit later on, if I was going best available here it'd probably be James Tunstill or Morgan Ferres.

In the end I went with Kade Dittmar. Dittmar has been on the radar all year as an inside contested bull and in the last game vs SA he finally put all the pieces of the puzzle together. He's one of the strongest players in the draft and has shown in the WAFL this year the ability to be a goal kicking mid. The biggest knock on his game this year has been skills under pressure, but in his last game he finally stopped dropping the ball on the boot and used his footy smarts to put the ball in the right place, even if it wasn't always a perfect kick. He's the kind of player you want playing for you in the last quarter of a game and brings real intensity into the midfield. At pick 45 he still has to build that consistency with his skills under pressure but I think he's got all the tools to make it and Dittmar is a perfect late pick and will help Geelong build a strong young midfield core

ALSO CONSIDERED: Jake Soligo, Shay Linke, Harvey Harrison, Kaden Harbour, Miller Bergman

Like this one.

My BPA pick would have been charlie dean but no need to take 2 mature agers in him and aleer...im surprised no one has taken warner yet i really rate his footy iq..and polson is well worth considering but dittmar would be a really good fit for geelongs midfield needs.

I reckon this is the range you will find Warner gets picked up, unless Sydney Pounce with their second selection on the night. I could easily see Sydney utilizing their first two picks with Knevitt then Warner. Polson a bit later unless a team running out of picks has the list need, otherwise rookie.

Opposition bids: (Now Haynes has run out I'm clear)

Nathan Kreuger $350k (3) ... sorry FF with an hour to go just saw the bargain basement price you put on his head
Tom Hickey $400k (2)
