Great effort from everyone, speak for everyone but it really is much appreciated that you guys took the time to do this.

Whilst I don't agree with 2 of our selections, I won't take anything away from the time or effort it takes.

Well done everyone again fabulous job.

Rookie Draft Pick 16 - Zavier Maher
Rookie Pick 16 - Port Adelaide

Zavier Maher - Murray Bushrangers

184cm, 82kg, Midfielder

Going on pure gut feel with this one. Was a bit of a surprise that Zavier was overlooked last year but he came back this year and played quite well in the three games he played for Murray. He is a midfielder that shows good pace, good skills and good agility. Whilst it is a bit of a speculative pick this year, he will at least add to the depth of the reserves midfield and will get every opportunity to show his worth at SANFL level to see if he is capable of making that step up.

Others in the mix were Braden Andrews, Finn Gorringe and Bryce Milford

Rookie pick 17 - Zac Becker - 190cm, 92kg - Medium Defender via Sturt

With the retirement of Easton Wood I'd like a bit more depth in this area.

Melbourne Rookie pick 18 - Jamieson Ballantyne
184cm 79kg - Wingman

Stoked he got this far, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ballantyne go in the 2nd round of this years draft. Ballantyne is a smooth moving wingman with a good workrate and balances offensive running and defensive running which is vital for wingman in today’s game. Contested game is the improvement but as a wingman it’s no worse than most others in this years pool.

Last pick of the draft might be its biggest steal.

I went back and watched the Bushrangers vs GWV game the other night, as wanted to see Butler and Brown a bit more. But I came away from watching the game thinking I really liked Jamieson Ballantyne, and I searched high and low on this draft boards for the mere mention of his name and couldn't find anything really. I did find an article online about him travelling from Portland to Warrnambool and onto Ballarat just for training and his dedication to footy which really impressed me and got me thinking he could be a draft bargain.
He's well balanced, but has long legs and runs hard and his skills look good. Plenty for a club to work with.

Glad you picked him up here.

Pick 43 - Melbourne - Charlie Molan
187cm 86kg - Medium Utility

I was debating between Molan and his GWV teammate Kai Lohmann but after taking the high tempo player in Clarke I’ve gone with a more week to week reliable player in Molan.

An underrated player due to playing a more defensive game than most and being played in a range of positions so he couldn’t settle. There isn’t many weaknesses to Molans game, he isn’t flashy but is reliable every week and is athletic and strong enough to play any role and even play next year.

Super stoked with my Melbourne picks and I’ll go early and say the demons have won the draft 😂
I'm really starting to warm to Molan lately. Have just finished re-watching the Metro vs Country challenge match and maybe it's the red hair but I see a lot of Nick Vlastuin with his play. Very solid defensively and could potentially be one of those players who organises a backline while providing a bit of intercept and rebound when needed.

I know Fremantle posters aren't too happy with me going small early. I probably won't be let back onto the board if I don't go tall here, so at 193cm and 81kg...

Pick 21 Fremantle - Mitch Knevitt (midfielder, Geelong Falcons/Vic Country)

Okay, so a few notes first...

- there's next to no chance Fremantle takes this pick. It'll be used to move down the order and probably try to pick up a future second rounder in the process. So it's a difficult one for 'realism'

- going small early was more just an experiment as such, since Fremantle posters are so focused on going tall early. So I wanted to look at another option and what could happen, and I did suspect all the big name talls would be gone by now. I've floated the idea on the Fremantle board that if we rate Jack Williams then maybe we get a goal kicker like Rachele and outside skill in NWM early, and then position ourselves for Williams in the second round. If I could trade down, I'd consider that

- if this was the real thing, I think it's unlikely we'd have passed up on Mac Andrew if he was available (which I doubt he will be)

But onto the pick...

I really like Mitch Knevitt, probably more than most on here - although I suspect he'll get some more attention the closer we get to the draft. He's one of a host of Victorian players that would have been really interesting to watch play a full season, because I think he was primed for big things. And he definitely made the most of his opportunities this year, winning big time numbers in the midfield and consistently being one of his teams best.

I know Josh Goater has his fans who highlight his athleticism and potential, but I reckon Knevitt is right up there. His upside is huge and it looks like he's only just getting started. I also think he has a more defined primary position. His Combine testing proved his athleticism too. And while Matt Johnson is arguably the 'big body' midfielder of note in this draft and he's no doubt better and more composed now, Knevitt does things that Johnson just can't. When you think of guys like Petracca, Bontempelli, Cripps and Fyfe, what sets them apart from other midfielders? Contested marking. And that's where Knevitt has the other two covered, and makes him such an attractive option in the modern game.

He's still improving as a player. He has the endurance base, and he's starting to utilise it more in games. His inside game is developing from pure strength to incorporating more finesse and positioning as well.

If I was going to justify this pick to Fremantle fans, I would highlight there was no KPF that I rated around this mark available and also we'll be unlikely to be picking here. And that while Knevitt is absolutely a midfielder, he's one that could definitely play forward too - allowing Fyfe to also go forward more often too. I've also got a couple of talls up my sleeve still.

So still no KPF's???

pick 7 - Hawthorn - Ben Hobbs - GWV - 183cm 80kg

tough inside mid, with great leadership potential, up there with Daicos as the best inside midfielder in the draft, he is too good not to take here, Ward was the other option at this spot if Hobbs was taken, but Hobbs will help improve our midfield which has been a weakness for us and help with our contested football in the midfield.

Chris25 you're up

Horrible pick for Hawks 🙈

Yep - this draft is a mess.

Imagine Freo going into a Draft with 3 genuinely good local KPFs (and Bazzo who can play both ends), picks to get them, and coming away holding four-fifths of fu** all.

Could the club be that idiotic? I mean, it is Freo.
3?

I believe there’s 1.

To be fair, I did explain all my picks. I also said how if this was the real thing, I'd have traded back from #21 and looked to have picked up Jack Williams later on. But I wasn't going to reach that much for him. And I think there's also a real argument to be made that Benning has a higher ceiling than him. I'd argue Mitch Knevitt could even be developed into a similar level CHF too, he has the size and overhead marking. And maybe Anthony Caminiti is the next Josh Treacy, pretty sure everyone is happy we got him.

The Fremantle board has elevated all the WA KPPs to Pavlich/God level, but there's a reason why most draft watchers have van Rooyen going in the 15-25 range. And Williams going 30+. Would we be as interested if they weren't from WA?

Amiss, JRV and Williams makes 3.
I only count one of those as a genuinely good KPF prospect.

JVR is probably best suited to playing as a third tall defender at AFL level. I believe he would struggle playing forward.

I believe it’s long odds Williams makes it at afl level.
