New-look Adelaide returns to training on Monday but Wayne Milera still a month away
Crows defender Wayne Milera is still a month away from full training but the club insists his rehabilitation from foot surgery is progressing well.

Training for the Crows’ 1-4 year players begins on Monday but a host of senior players are expected to be at West Lakes including former skipper Taylor Walker who has been training with emerging key forward Darcy Fogarty in their break.

Adelaide expects to have about 20 players on the track for two weeks before Christmas but along with Milera, those who face a delayed start include David Mackay who is having knee surgery, Ben Davis who is managing a foot injury, Matt Crouch (hip) and Daniel Talia (knee) who are both recovering from post-season surgeries.

BRISBANE recruit Mitch Hinge will be on the track on Monday after signing with the Crows as a delisted free agent.

GWS recruit Jackson Hately will be free to join in training from Thursday when Adelaide selects the former first-round draft pick in the pre-season draft.

Wow, that 8 week foot injury for Milera has just snuck over the 7 month barrier!

I'm almost at this stage with Milera, unfortunately.

If he gets back to being fully fit then its a bonus but just doesn't seem durable enough for AFL footy.

Don't fear .....they wouldn't have given a 5 year Contract to a fragile player .....Milera will be fine

OK oh sure.gif

Wouldn't be surprised if he's done.

Our record with foot injuries is pretty bad.
That's a pretty drastic statement imo. Certainly not ideal and it's pretty poor how long he's taken to recover but he hasn't even missed a full season yet and you're ready to write him off?

What is our record with foot injuries? Last serious foot injury I recall at the Crows was Brad Crouch and he's played the last few seasons without a foot related injury.

Milera played 17 games in 2019, 19 in 2018 and 16 in 2017. 52 games from 69 games I think which has him playing 75% of them. Not amazing but hardly putting a line through him either.

2020 obviously a shocker but no reason why he can't come back from it. If anything, I just think it makes him less likely to take that step up I was hoping we might see (which feels like a now or never) given he'll be starting from behind the 8 ball.

Darcy Fogarty

Entering his fourth year in the AFL system, the time is now for Fogarty to take the next step.

The 21-year-old somewhat regressed in 2019 after a promising debut 10-game season before adding another 10 games to his tally in 2020.

Fogarty simply MUST have a huge pre-season on the training track so he can build himself a fitness base that will allow him to become a much more reliable footballer.

He clearly has plenty of natural ability, but now it’s time to put it all together and take the baton passed on by Taylor Walker as Adelaide’s number one forward.

Wayne Milera

We hear so much about how good Milera is, and he has shown it in glimpses, but just cannot get on the park frequently enough.

When in full flight he provides plenty of run and carry off half-back and uses the ball exceptionally well.

He missed most of 2020 with stress fractures in his foot, but once he recovers from that, it is time for the 23-year-old to fully deliver.

The Crows absolutely need talented players like Milera at their best if they want to improve and turn this rebuild around quickly.

We're probably just used to it being all lockdown sessions outside of that one pre Christmas. Do miss when we used to get some great training reports on here which really gave us a good idea who was set for a big year.

Great to see Tex out there. He had to get serious this year.

To be honest regardless of the players EB, for our club everyone should be out there unless they have a decent excuse. If not on the track at least around the club.

Yet another person, this time a new Coach talking about discussing 'terminologies" ???? .....must have been a big issue last season for VB to raise it ......Was it a problem associated with Godden and his SANFL background ?
